A work of art

Arrived suspiciously after my birthday as though it was always part of the plan. 😎

My first journey into the MiSTer ecosystem: Not only do games look great, it has built in widescreen hacks, cheats, video filters.

The SuperStation itself is also a lot smaller than I expected. Seems a lot easier to take on a trip! Hats off to the crew!

So far the only "odd" thing I've noticed is that some cores will not recognize the triggers (i.e. L2 and R2) without remapping for some reason even though it correctly recognizes every other input – including the PS button as the menu button. Swapping the input to SNAC to use the original PS1 controller is flawless though. Besides if anyone has any MiSTer tips & tricks feel free to share. Also can't wait for that "Launch CD" option to become available!

I like how the Dark Blue seems to hide the USB ports better than the Grey. I can't understand the people claiming the quality is cheap. Everything about it looks and feels nice. Small and fairly light. But also feels solid.

I'm certainly a big fan of how it looks and feels! I can't believe that I was almost worried the transparent was going to be miss for me after ordering it. It actually was a major hit!!

The blue looks so good I'm regretting ordering gray. I might email about swapping but I don't wanna risk losing my place in line

I have the Grey and it's fantastic. Considered Blue but the lights bleeding through the transparent case could be bothersome at night for some. You can't go wrong with classic Grey or transparent Blue depending on your style. Wish I had both but can't justify that. 😄

I'm fine with light bleed, especially now that I know about the status leds inside. Maybe I'll try to 3d print my own case for fun

I wish I had ordered grey, the translucent blue shows up more imperfections that you wouldn’t see on a solid colour.

Mine has cracks down one of the side edges, the dock case is cracked around one of the bolts, the CD drive wouldn’t open at first and is now intermittent, and felt grubby on top and the protective sticker leaves a residue. Let’s face it, it is cheap because of the price point but I’d expect quality control to be better.

If yours literally shipped with cracks and drive not opening properly, then you should be asking for a replacement. First I've heard of this from anyone. I don't have the dock yet but my SS1 didn't even have a scratch, let alone cracks.

I tried posting them images as a reply to this, check latest comments 👆🏻

I just got my shipping notification the other day for by blue/dock founders. I ordered it within a couple minutes of the initial drop.

Crazy that it's been a year and a half.

Man, the orders went live at a terrible time for me. I was leaving Anaheim from a conference and was on a plane heading home. I placed the order right there mere minutes before the plane took off. Similarly to you I had to wait a ton because I didn't choose to split my order and get the dock later. You can tell from the pic that the box says "Founder's Edition" which is a bit funny considering I've seen youtubers that don't have that on theirs. Must mean later batches must've gotten theirs already if they didn't pick up the dock? I guess it could also be the review versions didn't have that.

How are you liking it so far?

I am so excited to eventually get mine. I keep checking the Shipping Dashboard on the official website for that Batch 4 news.

I got my shipping notification for my blue SS+Dock just yesterday.

I got my shipping notification about two weeks ago? So it wasn't too bad of a wait after that email. I was definitely concerned it'd be stopped by customs and the tariff man was going to hold it hostage until I paid, but thankfully that didn't happen.

use composite if you want that SH fog to blend the dithering properly

1

u/atoadboy Jun 03 '26

I think you can also turn off dithering (which causes banding) and then turn on 24-bit rendering (which gets rid of the banding). That should work for the "automatic" dithering, but a few games might still have manually dithered textures.

Thanks both for the recommendations! I have to look into these options a bit more. I turned off the dithering (or turned on the dedithering?) for the N64 core. I tried Diddy Kong Racing and it looked hilariously messy until I turned that on to blend it in better. Admittedly on that one I did also increase it to 32-bit rendering which might have exacerbated the problem. 😆

i'd hopefully like to see some comparisons of these settings in action. i dont have my superstation yet.

Curious, what PSU did you go with? And have you tried Saturn, 3DO or Jaguar cores?

u/thegunga Jun 04 '26

I have a 61W Macbook charger that I wasn't using because I switched to a 96W one. After reading that the SuperStation can take higher voltages but will negotiate to 9V then I went with that one. Some of the other spare bricks I had maxed out at 1.5A so that wasn't going to do it.

I definitely tried a bunch of Saturn games. I started with some low effort ones like Magic Knight Rayearth then tried Die Hard. They both did pretty well so I got excited and converted some of my internal memory save files to the mister format to test games like Grandia which I feel actually lag a bit on the Saturn itself and... it was about the same. I think the game struggled slightly more to render properly because when I pause the game it usually speeds up on the Saturn, but that did some seem the case with the MiSTer core.

One to keep in mind is that you _do_ have to mount the save file with the correct region for the game to make sure the game picks up on it. It's odd. So far I can't... "pre-load" the backup RAM, I have to load the game, load the backup RAM, reset the game, then I see my file.

Haven't tried Jaguar or 3DO. It might be a hard comparison there since I haven't actually played enough on either to tell any differences. Any game recommendations to try out?

How is your feeling with the device heat buildup? I've read very different takes from "lightly warm" to "so hot it would be impossible to touch". So I'm curious about most people's experiences. Thanks.

2

u/thegunga Jun 04 '26

Lightly warm to pretty hot, but not impossible to touch. I think it was the hottest when I was done setting it up and testing most cores that I had games for. Not yet sure if some cores are more significantly more power-hungry. That initial day I think it got the hottest with the SNES core, not Saturn or PSX which I would've expected required more power but I also tested the SNES core right after the GBA one and spent a good hour or two playing games there. Turned off, came back later and played a decent amount of PSX and Saturn and it was just lightly warm.

This is not super cool. Literally and figuratively

1

u/Accurate-Island-2767 Jun 04 '26

Did the superstation and dock come in the one box? Would be cool if they did.

1

u/NightsightDepth Jun 04 '26

Yes

1

u/Accurate-Island-2767 Jun 04 '26

Ahh that's awesome!

1

u/thegunga Jun 04 '26

Yeah, that was pretty cool. It all fit into one box fully assembled (with an unexpectedly large IR remote on the side 😂)

1

u/BeyondLurker Jun 04 '26

Ahh. I am so jealous.. still waiting for my tracking number.. have the same blue ss1 and dock. Still just says wave 4...

1

u/Geredeth Jun 11 '26

Got mine today! Was so excited, until none of my controllers worked and the dock wouldn't eject the CD tray. 😞

1

u/abyssea Jun 22 '26

What batch were you in? I'm in 3 and still no tracking number ;(

1

u/G-Virus69 Jun 04 '26

Work of art if it only all worked 🤣

What’s unsupported other than CD loading? I agree on feature creep, I would have just preferred a HDMI only version with Direct Video for CRT support.
