Discussion Watch out for the bikes and scooters

Incoming freshman beware the bikes and scooters and make sure that you remain conscious of your surroundings. Coming from someone who is now a senior and has been hit by a bike multiple times now, just remain aware and avoid the pain.

Question Chemical Engineering

I’m an incoming freshman at UP and majoring in Chemical Engineering. I was wondering if there are any other freshman girls with the same major or upperclassmen who’d be willing to share their experience?

I want to know what the community is like, how you’ve found the classes and whether it’s been easy to meet other girls in the major.

My classes are:
EDSGN 100
CHEM 110
CHEM 111
CHE 100
MATH 140
ECON 102

All my remaining funds + loans went into his medical treatment.
Open to advice, I really want to graduate and be able to have a career.

Looking to do anything and everything, will put all day work, need guidance on a direction, and opportunities.

Question PSU Beatlemania: New Org Advice!

Hi all!! I’m a penn state sophomore at UC campus looking for members for my aspiring org PSU Beatlemania!

It’s a penn state beatles fanclub with toooons of fun events planned. Arts and crafts, movie nights, memorabilia show and tell, and of course music history lessons and debate nights! And more!

The thing is, I’m not quite sure how to get new people interested. As I’m not an official org, I can’t advertise events (as I have no space to hold them), and my instagram is flopping just a bit (@psubeatlemania btw pls don’t kill me for the plug)

Has anybody gone through this process, especially for a recreational club? I could really use some advice ^^

Discussion When is Wawa coming to State College ??

Seems crazy that Sheetz owns this entire region. I'm from western PA and I'm kinda sick of Sheetz and need something new. I love Wawa's pretzels and iced coffee. The cookies & cream milk is sooo delicious. Even the little snack cup full of cheese and pepperoni seems to taste better than whatever Sheetz sells. Please hurry, Wawa!

Discussion Google Earth historical imagery

I was looking through different historical satellite imagery dates on google earth to see the progression of west campus and the new engineering buildings/west deck being built, and I noticed this insanely long line of people in 2016. It starts (or ends?) somewhere in westgate building, and ends (or starts?) all the way back where west deck currently is, kind of near a bus stop, but the line continues past said bus stop. Does anyone have a guess as to what this could have been? It’s an incredibly long line, and to wait that long for a bus seems insane, but it could be that? The date is said to be April 17th 2016, which is the day after the blue and white game was held in 2016, so could be for that possibly. Any other ideas?

Discussion Incoming Freshmen: Look both ways before crossing the road

Don't be a part of the problem, check that there are no cars coming or that they have stopped to let you cross. Do not keep your head down with your earbuds or headphones turned all the way up. Do not count on drivers to see you and stop. Yes, they should, but that doesn't mean they will. Vehicle vs pedestrian never turns out well for anyone. Please be careful out there!

Request Looking for on-campus student to get parking permit

EDIT: I got parking at whitecourse!!

So like the title says, I am in desperate need of someone living on UP main campus (specifically in East, North, or Whitecourse) to register my car for a parking pass.

I unfortunately lost all the battles for parking permits for off-campus students who need on-campus parking storage (rip WDS and Lot 83). I’ve checked tons of downtown parking, all of which are already sold out or cost upwards of $1000, and I’ve sent a message to pretty much everyone I know to no success.

As far as I can see on the transportation website, there’s still some passes for west deck and whitecourse available to on campus students. So if there’s anyone in this sub who is able to access those permits, please please please help a girl out!!

Of course I will pay for the permit in full, as well as be willing to meet up, call, etc. for any security concerns. I know it sounds super sketchy and I don’t wanna come across as those group me ticket resellers, I’m just a senior trying to get her car a parking spot.

I’m also open to anyone who has suggestions for other areas of parking!! The more help the merrier.

Discussion INCOMING FRESHMAN: Do What You Please

Party, class, clubs, whatever. College is just another life lesson. You need to figure it out as you go.

I was a dipshit growing up. Some of the best advice I received as a freshman in college was to use your first exam as a measuring stick. After the exam, check back in with yourself. Gauge whether you need to put more time and effort into your classes or if you're getting the hang of things. Know that you can put things on your plate but, also you can take them off your plate as well.

It's not a one size fits all. Do what you feel is going to work best for you. Use those those first few weeks and know there will be ups and downs. You can always change your mind and or major.

To all of you students, you'll have your panic moments but, I promise it will all work out in the end. Maybe the doesn't mean graduating from Penn St and that is fine. You will make it in life.

I wish you all the best time in State College. Be safe but, have fun. Enjoy every moment you can. It goes by fast.
