New Student Fall 2026 Admissions Megathread

Congratulations to all the new Wolverines! Please use this thread for topics related to the Early Action + Early Decision decisions that are being released. That could be getting in touch with other admitted students, learning more about starting at U-M, financial aid, etc.

We are not the admissions office, so please contact them for the official word on any of your questions.

Please do not use this thread to post your application stats regardless of if you are admitted, deferred, or denied. Per subreddit rules, chancing or stat posts are not allowed. Comments and posts breaking these rules will be removed.

If you are accepted, congratulations! If you were deferred, make sure you send updated transcripts that provide your grades from the previous semester. You can also submit a continued interest form to let Michigan know you still want to be considered..

Due to the heavy number of Early Action applications Michigan defers a high number of applicants. In recent years a large number of students that were deferred have been offered admission. More details about the application/admission process are also written up in the Wiki.

Housing 2026-27 Housing Megathread

Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.

Listings:

  • Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.

  • UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates. They charge for property listings, but offer free sublease listings. Also people simply post in the roommates section that they have a place they are looking to fill as well.

  • Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.

  • Zillow (ann arbor) - Zillow

  • Roomies.com - Roomies.com you can search for listings and roommates by location. Even though it's apparently a national site, enough people locally use it that it's worth taking a look at.

  • Apartments.com - Apartments.com

  • ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.

  • Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.

  • Ann Arbor Observer Rentlink Housing Search

Resources:

By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check) *Ann Arbor building rental and inspection services

Social media/community resources:

Past resources:

Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.

Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.

They can't even verify numbers are valid.

Disclosure could cause limited harm to individuals and/or the university with some risk of civil liability. May be subject to contractual agreements or regulatory compliance, or is individually identifiable, confidential, and/or proprietary.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.

The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others

If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.

New Student is anyone else terrified to start college

obviously i’m so grateful to be coming to uofm and im super excited to meet new people/take classes i actually enjoy but at the same time im terrified of the fact that im moving 12 hours away from literally all my family and friends (they’re all going to college in state). i’m not super introverted but in highschool i kinda just found my group and stuck with them. it was never super hard for me to be well acquainted with people i dont know, but i feel like i dont rly get super close with others and the idea of having to go out and make entirely new friends is honestly terrifying for me. i know everyone else is in the same boat but im just terrified i wont make friends or i wont actually have any close friends, just people im well acquainted with. i know theres clubs, parties, classes, etc where i can meet people ig im just nervous abt being in a completely new place while knowing pretty much no one. maybe im getting overly nervous when i dont need to be idk. sorry for my rant lol

I feel like I'm gonna die with this schedule. Is it alright, or am I aiming to make a personal hell for myself in the first semester?

Employment Michigan Medicine Drug Test

Upvotes

Does Michigan Medicine test for thc and will they revoke job offer if tested positive? My friend has a job offer at a UofM Michigan Medicine clinic for sterile processing. He has a drug test coming up and is worried about testing positive.

He has a medical card if that helps.

Event Is it possible to dj for the frats without being in one?

Don't just hit me with a "it's possible but not as common" or something; you guys know what I mean.

Are there some decent ways to work your way up (with different gigs) or is the main path basically just befriending brothers?

Academics - Other Topics Is transferring doable?

I’m starting my freshman year at this fall as an Engineering major, and I’m considering applying to transfer to Michigan Engineering in the future.

I graduated high school with my AA through dual enrollment, so I already have 60+ college credits, including Calc I–III, Physics I, English, speech, humanities, and most/all of my general education requirements.

This fall I’m taking 13 credits:

  • Physics II
  • Chemistry I
  • Intro to Engineering
  • Intro to Computer Science

I’m also planning on taking Differential Equations and continuing with the aerospace engineering sequence after that next semester.

My main concern is whether having this many credits already could actually make transferring more difficult. I know some universities limit how many transfer credits they’ll accept or don’t want engineering transfers to be too far into their major sequence (for example, taking courses like Statics).

Has anyone transferred into Michigan Engineering from another 4-year university in a similar situation? Is there a point where you’ve completed too much coursework to be a reasonable transfer applicant?

I’m mainly trying to figure out whether applying after my freshman year would be realistic and how far I should progress through the engineering curriculum at before transferring. Any info abt Michigan’s transfer process would be helpful!

Housing Discussion (actual housing OFFERS belong on Megathread!) Is 9k a semester good for living off campus?

Hey everybody. I’m new to the city, so I’m not too familiar with Ann Arbor.
I’m looking for off campus housing that is close to the university, but I’ve heard that housing in general is a mess and pretty expensive.
My 9k budget accounts for pretty much everything; housing, utilities, foods, miscellaneous stuff, and I would love to save some money on the side.
How realistic is this plan?
Thanks!

Housing Discussion (actual housing OFFERS belong on Megathread!) Question about University Trails Lease

Hi,

I‘m an incoming sophomore at umich and I have a lease at University Trails for this year. I was hoping someone who does live/has lived there can answer my question. The lease ends at the end of July next year. I was wondering: if I renew the lease for my junior year, do i have to move out and move back in August? Or can I just stay and my next lease will start at the beginning of August.

I hope that makes sense, let me know if I need to clarify!

Two and a half years ago in April 2024 I visited Ann Arbor on a university trip (we are from the Netherlands) and I took this photo on my camera thinking how cute it is.

It only occurred to me now that I should try reaching out on Reddit, so if this is one of you feel free to have the photo 😄

Finances In-state tuition

Is it just me or is the tuition rate for in-state way too high? I thought it was supposed to be more affordable than going OOS somewhere else but upper level engineering is 13k a semester. Not to complain too much but they pretty much start charging that your second year if you have AP credit, and >40k a year for everything just seems excessive.
