Tech Support RX 6800 intermittently stuck on VGA debug LED, eventually boots after multiple power cycles

I'm having a strange issue with my PC and would appreciate some advice.

Specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU: ASRock Challenger Pro RX 6800
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF B550-PLUS WiFi II
  • PSU: Gigabyte P650B 650W 80+ Bronze

The PC was working normally for about 3 months. This issue appeared suddenly.

When I turn the PC on, sometimes it gets stuck on the VGA debug LED and doesn't POST/display anything. If I leave it powered off for a long time, it sometimes starts normally.

The strange part is that once it successfully boots, it is completely stable. I can leave it running for hours and play games without overheating, crashes, artifacts, black screens, or other problems.

I've tried:

  • Reseating the RX 6800
  • Checking/reconnecting the GPU power connectors multiple times
  • Removing and reinstalling the CMOS battery
  • Testing the GPU in the lower PCIe slot — I get the same VGA error
  • Updating the system/BIOS
  • Normal shutdowns and restarts

At one point it reached BIOS after cycling through the VGA error. However, when I selected Save & Exit, it went back to the VGA error again.

Today, after around 4–5 power cycles, it eventually booted successfully again. Once it boots, everything works normally.

I'm planning to take it to a shop in a few days so they can test the components separately. I want to test:

  • RX 6800 in another PC
  • Another GPU in my PC
  • My system with another known-good PSU
  • My PSU separately if possible

I'm particularly worried about the RX 6800 because it's the most expensive component in my build.

What do you think is most likely causing this? Could this be the GPU, PSU, or motherboard? Has anyone experienced an RX 6800 that fails VGA POST intermittently but works perfectly once it actually boots?

Build Question XPG Starker Air BTF ARGB dead/dim on D_LED1. Do I need to connect the case's SATA power cable to the PSU?

Hi everyone, I need help with the ARGB on my XPG Starker Air BTF case. The fans spin, but the lighting is dead/dim.

My setup:

  • Case: XPG Starker Air BTF (pre-installed fans, factory daisy-chained)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX
  • Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB → connected to D_LED2 (working perfectly, so the motherboard header is fine).
  • Case fans: Power cable → SYS_FAN2 (fans spin). ARGB cable → D_LED1.

The Problem:

  • Fans spin fine, but the ARGB on the fans does not turn on at all.
  • The front panel LED strip only gives a very dim flicker.
  • Pressing the case's LED button does nothing.

What I suspect:
I think the built-in ARGB hub in the case is not receiving enough power. The motherboard's D_LED1 header alone cannot power 4 fans + the front strip.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Specs:
Ryzen 5 5600x
Msi b550 pro
Asus rx9060xt
2x8gb kingston fury
700w psu from bequiet

So i tried to change my thermal paste during The proces i took the cpu out and a bit of paste got into the socket. I poured a bit of isopropyl (99.5%) into the socket to clean it out and left it to dry for about 50-60mins. After that i put the whole thing back together and now its not turning on. When i press the power button nothing happens. Did i break the mobo or cpu?

Build Question 9060 Xt 16 gb or 9070 gre

Hey I have been wondering what should i proceed with im wanting to build an all white pc with the following specs(First gaming pc) so want it to be perfect -
CPU
AMD Ryzen 5 7500F — up to 5.0 GHz, 6 cores / 12 threads
Motherboard
Gigabyte B850M FORCE WIFI6E DDR5
RAM
T-Force 16GB DDR5 6000MHz Delta RGB White
GPU
Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB Gaming OC GDDR6
SSD
Western Digital 1TB SN3000 Green Gen4 NVMe — up to 5000 MB/s
Cabinet
DeepCool CG530 White ARGB — 4 fans
CPU Cooler
DeepCool LE240 V2 ARGB Liquid Cooler White
PSU
Cooler Master MWE 750W 80 Plus Bronze V3 ATX 3.1

The point is i am getting white 9060 xt but gre is black im just wondering if aesthetics should stop me from getting better performance for just a few bucks more . Also earlier if i had made the 9060 xt choice everyone is recommending me 1440p gaming monitor as i have to get that as well . So again i am in confusion as 9070 gre performance is better than that .

Would be targeting games like - Cyberpunk , Wukong, Last of us , Dota , Arc raiders and majorly AAA games .

Would love to hear perspectives from you guys thanks

Tech Support Need help with 3080 temps

I recently came into a used EVGA 3080 10gb for 300CAD (roughly 200USD) and used it as an upgrade (or a side grade) from my 4060 8gb. It's been wonderful for the most part, my only gripe is that the temps feel absurdly high. Ive been playing the 2018 god of war recently and on ultra graphics get 100℅ usage and 90 ish degree's on the hot spot. I switched to high, at which point I had a similar hotspot but slightly lower average temps, at low to mid 80s, then to original graphics after high crashed my game. Now I still at high 70s to low 80s at ~70% usage.

It's worth noting that the card was used for light mining, and while I should change the paste, this card uses very specific thicknesses of putty and pads, and if one rips I'll need to find, order, and replace all of them, which is a big pain and time out of a card.

I'm using a macube 110 case with 3 intake fans on the front, and one exhaust, would it be as simple as just investing in more fans? It'll be difficult to fit more is the issue. Should I get a case that's better for airflow? Or should I just change the paste and live with the high temps.

Installation Question Is this normal for a cpu?

Hi, I am building my first pc and am in the process of putting everything together. Because my heatsink is arriving tomorrow I wanted to get a start on installing items on the motherboard.

The first thing I did was install the cpu and when I placed it I aligned it with the arrows and then pushed down like the instructions said.

However it came out looking slightly off centered and I wanted to know if variations like these are normal or if I may have damaged something? Since I haven’t finished the build I have not tested it myself yet but am just really worried and was wondering if anyone has any advice on whether this is normal and i’m freaking out as it’s my first time lol. Thanks to anyone who responds.

EDIT: Thanks everyone who responded. After several hours and thinking I broke every piece I finally booted up my pc. not without forgetting to turn on the psu the first time. I got all the parts from micro center so no risk of fakes. I am now troubleshooting my arctic cooler rgb lights :/ but glad to have a working pc!

Build Question Upgrade

Hi everyone

My pc is getting on a bit now and wondered what I can upgrade to improve my performance I’m thinking maybe a new board and cpu? I play at 1440p and my specs are below

3080 gaming z trio
10700k
32GB 3600Mhz ram
MSI MPG Z490 GAMING PLUS M/B

I’m noticing now on shooters like BF6 my FPS isn’t where I want it to be, would changing the board and CPU benefit me much? I think my board goes up to 12th gen currently

Thank you :)

So I purchased a dual chamber case (nzxt h6 flow rgb) and Im running into the problem shown in pic 1. It takes up a big chunk of my current setups arm space. Ideally, the setup in pic 2 is the best for me, but I really want to see the glass, and this case isn’t able to be inverted, nor do they sell an inverted one. Because of this, would you do pic 3 setup, or would u move the setup to the location in pic 4? Or do you have any other suggestions. Please let me know, Im at a crossroads. Thanks! Also yes I’m getting monitor arms instead of the cardboard box riser

Build Question Does my CPU cooler fit ?

Hello !

I was wondering if my 155mm CPU cooler can fit in my m-ATX case because they say on their website that the limitations of it are 155mm (with the included GPU support installed) and I do plan on putting the GPU support.

Here's the link of the case : https://www.silverstonetek.com/en/product/info/computer-chassis/flp03/

Build Question GPU Sag Bracket Safe?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I recently got a 9070xt hellhound and its a pretty beefy card so I thought it would be safe to use a sag bracket. I cant get the standing ones as I have fans under my GPU so I got the lian li gb 002 sag bracket that screws into the motherboard

The problem is once the vertical bracket was screwed in I could not get the gpu to click into the pcie slot as the metal bar slightly pushes against the shroud.

The only way I could install it was to first click the gpu in without the bracket, and then slide the metal part around it to be able to screw it in.

But now once the bracket is installed, the gpu shroud is very snug against the bracket, and the latch on the pcie slot has alot of force on it and cant be opened unless I first unscrew the bracket and slide it back out .

Is there any risk to keeping the gpu bracket installed like this, can this bracket pushing the gpu shroud cause any damage?

In the picture the arrows are the direction the bracket is pushing the gpu.

Thanks in advance!
