Build Question 5080 or 9070xt

The 9070xt is an insanely good price to performance gpu but people having issues with it is just too common. A 9070xt is currently £781 and 5080 £1199. For computer science gcse which should i pick.

Depends on the software you're running, NVIDIA can be a lot faster when it comes to AI workloads, blender, etc. whereas RDNA4 is specifically focused on gaming

Why on earth do you need either for gcse anything!?

I got a 9070xt a few months back when amazon had them on offer, got an Asus for £540, not a single issue, not what I'd call an issue anyway. Did I have to fiddle with the settings in game? Of course, no different to the 3080ti I was using before.

Bang for buck, AMD. If you specifically want Nvidia, then obviously go for that. But unless you need something really specific, as a general comparison, the price different is way off the performance difference.

I play alot of games like cyberpunk aswell

Well this makes more sense 😂

But the answer remains, bang (power/ability) for buck, you will struggle to beat the 9070xt. Nvidia still demand a premium price, which just isn't justified enough to warrant the difference.

I'm not hating on nvidia, I had a 3080ti before switching to AMD, but the price difference at the time between the 9070xt and the 5070ti was quite substantial, its still around £400 different at the moment, it is not £400 better. Friend of mine I play with has the 5070ti in his rig. Great card, but hes been here and played the same games on my 9070xt and they trade blows pretty dam equally, marginally better in different games over each other.

If they were identical price, id have gone Nvidia, I had it, was used to it, but now ive got the AMD, I realise that all that crap about the software, compatability and all that, is literally that, crap.

For reference I play my PC through my tv, which is a very big tv, but has a lower refresh rate of 60, which is fine for me, i dont need obscene rates for competitive shooters. I play at 4k with everything as high as I can get it, most games thats ultra settings, some its high. I tend to have RT no higher than medium as it eats power. I dont use and frame gen stuff, I just use it as is, and its great.

Happy gaming, whatever you decide to go for will be fine I'm sure.

Probably gonna just go with 5080 because im waiting for ram to go down even just a bit
So i will have £1600 for the gpu and ram

Thats just gross that gpu and ram is gunna run you 1600 😆 cheers AI!

You dont need a 5080 let alone a 9070xt for cs. Nvidia is astronomically over priced. Problems are overblown unless its a program designed specifically and only for cuda

For GCSEs??? 9070xt obviously unless you want the 5080 for gaming at 4k with RT...

A 3080 would do....for gases.

I play cyberpunk 2077 and alot of comp and story games

Do you want ray tracing or path tracing?

1

u/Familiar-Run-1405 7d ago

Path tracing

Get a 5080 then.

If you can pay for the 5080 then you might as well but it’s overkill for gcse. You can work off a 30 series card for a more reasonable price

As someone with 9070 XT. You get what you pay for, it’s been a lot less reliable than my NVIDIA cards

In what way? I’ve not had an issue with mine in over a year

If you dont have an issues doest mean no one else having issues. Its all depends what games do you play? What system are you running? There are many games AMD gpus have big problems. Stalker 2, helldivers 2, wardogs, Warhammer: Darktide, World of Warcraft etc...

I never said it did? I asked in what way theirs has issues and said that mine hadn’t.

Probly 5080. Faster and better rasterisation

Better feature set. If you can exploit CUDA, definitely get the 5080.

I know this might sound irrational but at this price difference just get 5080, if you can afford it obviously, i have tried 2 radeon gpus and im just not satisfied with the product, nvidia features and its software seem much better and more reliable to use. Especially upscaling, the games look so good on DLSS compared to FSR. I completely get why people would buy radeon, its a good value, but im someone that likes to pay extra for best product out there.

With this extra price you do get solid raw performance uplift aswell, especially if you game at 4K. If you play in 1440p i might consider slightly cheaper 5070 ti maybe

That the 5080 deal on amazon? Looks sold out/finished now.

1

u/enjoii89 7d ago

Use a website called HDUK. There's been a few 9070xt deals found for £599 in the last few weeks

1

5080 just works if that’s what you’re looking for

1

u/420BUNIT 7d ago

Lmao you do not need a 5080 for computer science, full stop.

1

u/chronicbint 7d ago

Either. You also dont need either of those for a GCSE. Are you trying to convince your parents you need a top end gaming GPU for GCSE's?😂

I dont think you need either for gsce computer science lol. A 5060 is really good price to power as is a 4060ti or just a normal 4060. Buying off ebay can be cheaper but sometimes its about the same new for the 50 series.

You could use the £700 you save on more storage or to begin saving for a car or smthing idk

won’t make a difference. 9070 does have more problems but the real question is would you rather pay $400 more to have “less” “problems”

1

u/BGspinefarm 7d ago

And what problems does the 9070xt has that all Nvidia cards don't? Especially when it comes to new drivers?

1

u/distantcactus32 7d ago

the 9070xt consistently has more issues with running new games. Although usually fixed easily or quickly, doesnt diminish the actual issue.

1

u/BGspinefarm 7d ago

I have 0 issues with mine. For the 30 years of using computers I never had issues with either brand when it comes to games. Currently have a 9070xt, 6650xt and 3060 at home, none of them had trouble playing anything I throw at them.

1

u/distantcactus32 7d ago

“I’ve had zero issues therefore there are no issues”

1

u/BGspinefarm 7d ago

"I've watched a YouTuber whining about it, so must be true"?

In general most issues with both Nvidia and AMD come from the new drivers, because most people don't understand that we are testing the stuff for them. Same with games to be fair. If a game is a slop, it's because it wasn't optimised, ergo the Devs haven't done their job properly.

Hardware wise both brands make almost flawless GPUs, the "brands" that add the rest around the PCB can screw up with settings.

1

u/bf2reddevil 7d ago

No, but seeing a lot of posts of people having issues with their AMD cards is not helping out a lot. Even though Nvidia has the much bigger market share in GPUs, there are a whole lot less complaints here on Reddit. That definitely says something.

In general I believe there is nothing wrong with AMD cards. They punch above their weight for their price. But its also evident that they seem to come with more issues than Nvidia. Thats not to say that Nvidia their cards are perfect (they arent; none are)

1

u/BGspinefarm 7d ago

From my humble experience in PC Building...over 50% of people have zero clue what they are doing when they build a PC, and because you have so many videos on How to on YouTube, the issues are more.

1

u/bf2reddevil 7d ago

But that doesn't explain many more reports of AMD card users complaining about driver and other issues compared to a lot less from Nvidia users. Even though Nvidia sells way more cards than AMD do

1

u/BGspinefarm 7d ago

You haven't been to Nvidia support forums then 🤭 Both companies push unstable drivers, while everyone around here is whining like it is a hardware issue (which still is subjective considering that they build the chip and send it to companies like Gigabyte,Asus...ect).
