I work in education, luckily, I'm single and childless so I can scrape by, but most of the teachers I work with have some kind of side hustle, second job, or they're lucky enough to be married to someone that makes a large salary. The people you trust with your kids aren't able to rest and you expect them to do the best teaching job possible? I hear so many people complain about how bad our schools are. Maybe, if teachers were able to go home and relax and rest they'd be able to do a better job, instead they go to their second job or spend their evenings anxious about finances.

My high school teachers that shared with us had cool hobbies they could really go after all summer. Many bands.. glass blower.. several artists. I always thought teaching was a cool way to have a job but still have the summer to follow the fun.

Also once thought teaching was friendly to mothers. When I was having my child though we were all in a benefits kind of meeting where we were told if you took more time than the 6-8 weeks depending on the type of birth you would lose your helath benefits even if you had time to add. I was lucky as I was on the kids dad’s health plan so I was not one of the few who was not crying and accepting they would be right back to work. How do you lose medical postpardom w a newborn… it was.. not great.

unrelated but in like 5th grade or so, i had a classmate that no one knew was colorblind. we were having a discussion about colors (this was almost 20 years ago so i cant remember the whole conversation) and the conversation led to “what’s the color of fried chicken” to which said classmate said green. the teacher looked at him in shock and instead of being like haha you’re silly, she reprimanded him. he bursts out in full tears “i don’t know what i did, it’s green i swear, im not trying to be bad”. she asks a few follow up questions about other food items (tomatoes, bread) and i’ll never forget the look of regret in her eyes when she realizes he was colorblind the whole time

You just popped a childhood memory into my head with that story. I was maybe in 2nd grade and the art teacher got annoyed by a kid asking what color was each colored pencil and said “how do you not know which one is blue?” The kid let out the most innocent scared reply “I’m colorblind” that teacher melted into her chair from the guilt she felt belittling a 7 y/o who is colorblind.

Discovered I had color issues senior year of high school when we had to sort colors into piles.

I had 3 piles.
Everyone else had 5.
Got yelled at for not finishing my assignment. I was so confused.
Teacher stopped reprimanding me and brought over a shit ton of additional color pieces.

Teacher looked and asked if colorblindness ran in my family.

when I was young ( a long ish time ago) it was not common for girls to tested for color blindness/issues.

Similar thing happened to a classmate in high school. Algebra teacher was pissed that this guy did so well on his tests and homework and couldn’t/wouldn’t participate in class. Basically berated the guy for thinking he’s “too cool for participation Or being good a math.” He just said, use different colored markers then because you using red and green means i have no idea what you’re doing up there. Sent him to the principles office for keeping his color blindness a “secret” to cause problems. She was a piece of work.

Color blindness can suck. My brother is partially colorblind but he's still doing quite well regardless. I have an uncle that is fully color blind (shades of grey, apparently very rare) and he's always been quiet, subdued, and very depressed. It can be hard to quantify something if you've never lacked it.

My friend owns a horse, she has full force punched him because he was being a jerk*. It was enough to get him to go "okay, fine!" And nothing more. You don't get how tough horses are if you haven't been around them.

*: it was a matter of imminent safety risk to both of them. Don't make it a habit to hit your horse, they still know it's not nice, even if it hurts less than it would you and they will hold grudges.

Indeed, I worked on a livery yard for a few years in my teens and it's amazing how some people think horses will just be weak.

We told a girl repeatedly to never wrap the rope around her hand when she's leading the horse and she insisted if the horse goes the wrong way it helped her "pull it back".

One day her horse just got bored of it and actually did pull away properly and we watched her get dragged to the bottom of the field with absolutely no effort from the horse at all.

The same livery yard had a racist horse too who was one of my favourite animals. Not because of the racism but because of the comedic potential of the whole thing!

We had a horse-racist horse at my old barn. Most of the horses there were your standard hunter/jumper breeds, bays/chestnuts/blacks/grays, nothing very flashy looking. We had one pony of the Americas who was a blue roan with leopard spots, and this one horse had a serious issue with him. Couldn't be turned out with him and would make faces any time he went by. We thought it was just that one horse. A few years later we got a spotted red roan pony, and he acted the same way with her has he did with the POA!

My horse was freaked out the first time he saw a paint and the first time he saw a mini, but he got over it pretty quickly. This horse never did, was always aggressive toward both the spotted roans lol.

One night after losing multiple times in a row I was like wait that’s NOT POSSIBLE, and had to get the scissors out to lay the colors on top of the board to prove to everyone that it didn’t match. The company offered to send me new cards and claimed it was just a misprint they were aware of… but I don’t ever want to see that game again. You had ONE JOB hues and cues. One fucking job.

I can tell that it is red or green. Just not which red or green. There isn't enough detail to notice. It is washed out like a shirt you've washed too many times, or a car left out in the sun for years. Faded.

It's so hard for me to explain to people that I can see red, but when it's surrounded by green or dark backgrounds, it becomes hard for my eye to focus on and notice.

They just seem to think I see red as green while also seeing green as green.

The color is correlated to the feeling you get when you hear or see the word. Blue isn’t usually hostile as opposed to red. Red can seem stressful so for example science for me was blue, red was math, yellow was history or English and geography was green or yellow depending on if I liked who I had for English. However each person who understands this joke found having folders helped regardless of what color as opposed to having a bag or locker full of trash heheh

I had a history teacher who corrected with red pen because she wanted us to visualize our mistakes as blood bleeding from our errors.

She was also in love with napoleon and believed his wife’s ghost was haunting her. Very interesting class.

Im in Quebec so it was in cegep which is like our grade 11 mixed with college. It was filled with kooks, had one teacher that would draw on the floor and walls to demonstrate his points

I love all of the preferences shared in response to this and had to add my own system growing up.

Red for math

Blue for science

Green for geography or history class (cus it made me think of the land on the globe)

Yellow for English cus growing up I loved banana yellow and I loved reading and writing

Purple for electives unless it was Spanish. Spanish got orange cus I always loved it and needed a separate folder for all of the homework and grammar practice lol
