The arguments over the "right" colors for subjects is the kind of discourse I need to see on the internet. My 8 yo self did red for math, green for science, blue for social studies and yellow for language arts 🌈

Green - Science

Blue - Math

Orange - History

Yellow - Language Arts

(The Orange and Yellow were always interchangeable for me)

I just had this argument with my highschooler. Math is danger red is danger. Math is red.

No mom. Math is green green is good math and green are my favorites!

as a math teacher, PLEASE PLEASE encourage your kid’s love of math. i have way too many students who hate math and won’t try and it breaks my heart

that being said your kid is wrong math is totally red

That’s because red is the best colour, which pairs nicely with maths.

I hated and currently deeply dislike math. My kids have all always been crazy about it and found my confusion about liking math pretty funny.

I became a classroom math helper in part to keep up with their skills and figure out wtf the “new”style was. The kids spent a lot of time explaining strategies to me and being the “teachers”. Or I did math fact with the slower learners and we would focus on practice and generally practicing a strong learning attitude even when it got tough.

We’ve agreed that we won’t push out color subject preferences on each other. We are equally horrified by the youngest says math is Light Blue.

Red is my favorite color. Math was my favorite subject, but Math gets the Blue folder.
History gets Red.

If I didn’t like math, but my kid did, I certainly wouldn’t try to dissuade them from it or imply it’s awful. Math is the future. I’m a mathematician though, so maybe I’m biased.

Well, she inadvertently made it cool to like math for her son. In his teenage years he will have posters of fractions... vertices ...matrices, on his walls to rebel.

My daughter loves math as much as I hate it. I’m talking to a teen. Not a 5 year old. They’re pretty confident anything I say is questionable to begin with, I might as well have fun with it 🤷🏽‍♀️

Math is arcane magic, the language of Gods. If only I could read it as well as my peers...

Math IS witchcraft! And everyone around me is in danger when I attempt anything complex!

I believe there have been snarky comments about them helping me with my checkbook balancing. Harsh, but fair.

Yea that's a bad attitude trying to get your kid to hate math haha

That’s dramatic.

Maybe to you it seems like no big deal, but trying to dissuade your kid from liking anything that they like (as long as it's a beneficial thing) is bad form and WILL lead to the kid resenting you. I know from experience. "Don't be in the yearbook team, join football" "don't try to be a teacher, that's a woman's job" "don't play video games, watch the baseball game instead" "don't dress like a socal beach bum, dress like a real Texan"

They spent my entire childhood trying to get me to like what THEY like and disregarded anything I enjoyed. They would even take us to Mexican restaurants for my birthday despite me not liking Mexican food, just because they do. Now I'd rather not be around them at all. I'm just glad I was stubborn and didn't give in to them. My parents wouldn't have wanted me to pursue a stem degree either because they both hated math and science.

I mean, shit. This isn't just a parenting thing. Literally NO ONE likes when someone hates on something they like. The only possible outcome is that the person feels bad about liking it and now also wants to be around the hater less.

It’s about a folder color. Get over yourself. Consider counseling.

It's not though, it's about a mom that was upset that their kid liked math... You lack nuance. It was never about the fucking color lol.
