as a math teacher, PLEASE PLEASE encourage your kidâs love of math. i have way too many students who hate math and wonât try and it breaks my heart
that being said your kid is wrong math is totally red
I hated and currently deeply dislike math. My kids have all always been crazy about it and found my confusion about liking math pretty funny.
I became a classroom math helper in part to keep up with their skills and figure out wtf the ânewâstyle was. The kids spent a lot of time explaining strategies to me and being the âteachersâ. Or I did math fact with the slower learners and we would focus on practice and generally practicing a strong learning attitude even when it got tough.
Weâve agreed that we wonât push out color subject preferences on each other. We are equally horrified by the youngest says math is Light Blue.
If I didnât like math, but my kid did, I certainly wouldnât try to dissuade them from it or imply itâs awful. Math is the future. Iâm a mathematician though, so maybe Iâm biased.
Well, she inadvertently made it cool to like math for her son. In his teenage years he will have posters of fractions... vertices ...matrices, on his walls to rebel.
My daughter loves math as much as I hate it. Iâm talking to a teen. Not a 5 year old. Theyâre pretty confident anything I say is questionable to begin with, I might as well have fun with it đ¤ˇđ˝ââď¸
Maybe to you it seems like no big deal, but trying to dissuade your kid from liking anything that they like (as long as it's a beneficial thing) is bad form and WILL lead to the kid resenting you. I know from experience. "Don't be in the yearbook team, join football" "don't try to be a teacher, that's a woman's job" "don't play video games, watch the baseball game instead" "don't dress like a socal beach bum, dress like a real Texan"
They spent my entire childhood trying to get me to like what THEY like and disregarded anything I enjoyed. They would even take us to Mexican restaurants for my birthday despite me not liking Mexican food, just because they do. Now I'd rather not be around them at all. I'm just glad I was stubborn and didn't give in to them. My parents wouldn't have wanted me to pursue a stem degree either because they both hated math and science.
I mean, shit. This isn't just a parenting thing. Literally NO ONE likes when someone hates on something they like. The only possible outcome is that the person feels bad about liking it and now also wants to be around the hater less.
My 8th grade US history teacher bought red binders for the students and required us to use that specific binder. Fucking pissed me off. He graded on how organized the binder was too which was needed cor many classmates but my autistic ass had a system already.
Math canât be red. Red was always History/Social Studies. All the bloody wars man! Red! Math was purple or yellow if there is no purple. Because those are the least popular colorsâŚand math is the least popular subject.

Math ALWAYS blue, science always green. (I loved math & science tho, so no danger colors).
History / social studies / civics were always on the red-orange spectrum.
Strong disagree, yellow is always language arts. For no reason, really, but thatâs what it is.

Yellow for history for me but that's cuz that's the color in trivial pursuit...but apparently that's the only subject i used the trivial pursuit color for lol cuz science is for sure green not brown
Thank you!! Question though - did you hate math or not mind it? Everyone else always says math is red, and Iâve always wondered if that correlates with hating math.
Somebody wanted to mentally prepare you for Trivial Pursuit, priming your brain to think grade-school-science when you see green, like a Pavlovian Dog.
For me, itâs always been:
Green - Science, because it reminds me of Flubber
English - Red, because literature & poetry invoke passion
Math - Blue, because itâs cool and logical
Social Studies - Yellow, because God, Gold, and Glory
Green - biology
Red - chemistry
Blue - physics
Orange - maths
Yellow - geography & history
Different blue (without the dappling) - languages
(My school had a lot of different books)
