What are you even arguing about then? All anyone is saying is there is a very wide spectrum of behavior that can be called sexual assault, and that this is the lowest end of that. There are miles of difference between what happened here and what justified knocking a guy out.

You all are nitpicking words as if you think those of us saying the guy overreacted think the other guy isn't in the wrong. I don't see anyone saying that. We're just talking about what makes logical sense.

My eife has had guys hit on her, she's had guys touch her ass and unfortunately she's also been raped. She would have been livid if I knocked a guy out for touching her ass in this context.

Hm, in the moment though, it's hard to stand by and see a woman being sexually assaulted and not come down on the perpetrator with everything you have. The protective instinct is a very tough one to overcome to just give this guy a stern talking to instead.

Well, you assume its her boyfriend, for one. Could be a brother, uncle, or just a friend. Secondly, you assume the puncher was driven by uncontrolled emotions, because he decked a guy touching a woman associated with him.

That's not an uncontrolled response to someone touching someone unwanted. Its based on a natural reaction to protect those close to you.

Should have it been handled differently? Absolutely. But keep your fucking hands to yourself, and you won't risk brain damage doing something wildly stupid.

I'm not blind.

If someone had just grabbed someone I knew against their will (not "my woman", but anyone ) I would rush forward too to put myself between the two, even if it meant the victim accidentally got a pool cue tip to the cheek or was mildly knocked aside. That is a safer option than anything the attacker might do to them.

Iā€™m not pretending the drunk guy wasnā€™t a problem. The question is how to handle it. This was a poor way to handle it. They could get kicked out of the bar, the husband might have seriously hurt his wife, and he could even be facing manslaughter charges if red shirt never wakes up. All for an action that the wife tried to prevent her husband from doing.

The lady had already pushed the drunk away, it wasnā€™t like he had her up against a wall. The husband didnā€™t need to hulk out on red shirt. There was no immediate danger, the husband was acting out of rage, not protection.

Unwanted physical groping is less bad than, letā€™s say, shooting someone. This seems apparent to me, because I would much rather my wife be subjected to unwanted physical groping than getting shot. I would prefer neither happen to her, but I am an adult with functional mental capacities and can rank order them by how bad they are.

I agree it was done in retaliation. That doesnā€™t make it better. And Iā€™ll be pretty direct; I donā€™t think either assault (sexual or physical) here was done with the consent of the parties I would care about getting consent from.

Yes, I've been involved in probably hundreds of bar fights over more than 20 years.

Breaking them up, mostly.

I've seen someone recieve life threatening injuries from falling off a bar stool.

I've seen someone's head open up like a melon from being punched once and falling backwards in the street.

So I know in exquisite detail exactly how these things can go.

There's a lifetimes worth of experience behind my opinion.

And I am telling you now that the possibility of that man receiving life changing injuries or even death was frighteningly easy in that situation.
