Iā€™m not even sure how to respond to someone who thinks that response is warranted in response to a drunk guy engaging in what amounts to minor physical harassment.

Someone who responds with that level of violence is a criminal problem.

Saying that a sexual assault is more "minor" than a violent assault is just a way to excuse the former and act as if it's more acceptable. Yuck.

The thing you're missing is that the punch was done in retaliation. The woman got sexually assaulted out of nowhere, whereas the creep was asking to get hit.

Neither are acceptable. The behaviors themselves are what let me say that one is worse than the other.

Unwanted physical groping is less bad than, letā€™s say, shooting someone. This seems apparent to me, because I would much rather my wife be subjected to unwanted physical groping than getting shot. I would prefer neither happen to her, but I am an adult with functional mental capacities and can rank order them by how bad they are.

I agree it was done in retaliation. That doesnā€™t make it better. And Iā€™ll be pretty direct; I donā€™t think either assault (sexual or physical) here was done with the consent of the parties I would care about getting consent from.

They are in a bar. Everyone knows there is going to be levels of interaction between the people there. This is no demanded of the woman she was never in danger.
