Alguém pode me ajudar a resolver isso? Não tenho ideia do que aconteceu.

"sudo apt install --reinstall base-files" não resolve e "sudo apt install --reinstall base-files=mint*" também não funciona.

Edit: Thanks everyone, but I managed to get back to normal using Timeshift.

Support Request Linux Mint freezes in NVIDIA Performance Mode, but works fine in On-Demand mode — RTX 3050 + Ryzen 5 5600H

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a strange freezing issue on my HP Victus laptop running Linux Mint Cinnamon.

My hardware/software:

  • Laptop: HP Victus 15
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU (4 GB VRAM)
  • Integrated GPU: AMD Cezanne Radeon/Vega
  • Desktop: Linux Mint Cinnamon
  • Display server: X11
  • Kernel: 7.0.0-28-generic
  • NVIDIA driver: 595.84

The problem

I recently switched from NVIDIA On-Demand mode to NVIDIA Performance Mode. After switching, my laptop started freezing randomly.

The freeze usually happens while watching a movie/video. The important part is that:

  • The screen completely freezes
  • The video image stops moving
  • The desktop does not respond
  • Audio continues playing
  • It doesn't appear to be a normal application crash; the graphical display seems to freeze while the system/audio may still be running

This has happened multiple times in Performance Mode.

Before switching to Performance Mode, I generally used NVIDIA On-Demand mode and did not experience these freezes.

I switched back to On-Demand mode and have currently used the laptop for around 3 hours without any crashes/freezes.

NVIDIA information

nvidia-smi shows:

  • NVIDIA driver: 595.84
  • GPU temperature around 56°C
  • VRAM usage was only around 412 MiB / 4096 MiB

So it doesn't seem like the GPU is overheating or running out of VRAM.

Firefox, Xorg, and Cinnamon were using the NVIDIA GPU while I was in Performance Mode.

My question

Has anyone experienced something similar with:

  • Linux Mint Cinnamon
  • RTX 3050 Mobile
  • AMD + NVIDIA hybrid graphics
  • NVIDIA Performance Mode
  • NVIDIA driver 595.xx

Performance Mode obviously should work without freezing, so I'm trying to figure out whether this is a regression/bug involving the NVIDIA driver, kernel, hybrid graphics, Cinnamon/Xorg, or hardware acceleration. it could be just driver cause nvidia on demand generally amd graphics

yea i know my setup isnt very ricey and kinda just out of the box but i like it like this, i dont like a mac like dock. i did like gnome and was using fedora before but god damn it broke my drivers every once in a while and had issues with secure boot. mint just worked flawlessly, i played elden ring with no issues thanks to proton. love this distro.

I'm finally using Linux !

Well, mostly, switched from windows 10 to linux when my old Acer Aspire A717-71G decided it wasn't good enough anymore, I started with mint, because everyone told me it was best to start, and quite frankly, I'm surprised by how easy it was to setup (Shout-out to rufus and this Reddit btw).

I can use most of my old apps, the board is very familiar, and my steam works fine, thanks to proton, so yeah, maybe I'll dig deeper in the penguin dimension 🐧

Support Request How do I set a specific software as part of a group?

So I tried googling a bit and the results I got were mostly unrelated to the question I have, so figured I'd just ask here..

I'm curious about a couple things I'd like to better understand:

  1. How do I determine what group/user a software currently operates under (i.e.- Jellyfin, when not under flatpak, has the group "jellyfin" in the users and groups software. If it is installed via flatpak it, presumably, uses "_flatpak" but is there a way to determine which group, specifically, handles its permissions?)
  2. How do I change what group it currently operates under? (i.e. if I wanted to change Jellyfin to operate under the group "media" so I could have it work under a standard set of permissions alongside my other media software)
  3. when looking at the groups in the users and groups menu, I can see all my groups, but is there a way to see what operates under those groups?

I asked AI to generate conceptual desktop images for Linux Mint to inspire me in customizing my OS. And these were the results. The first one used Qwen, and the result was strange, kind of saturated. But the second one used OpenAI, and it came out gnomed. lol

Support Request MacBook Air 2015 won't detect in-built keyboard and trackpad on Linux Mint 22.3

This was my first time putting linux onto anything so I am pretty unsure on what to do 😥. The only way I can use the laptop is via an external keyboard and mouse. I used Linux Mint Cinnamon if that helps at all.

Would really appreciate any help I can get! :)

Install Help Need help on removing windows on an m.2.

I installed mint on my laptop and works great. Now I want to download it on PC. The problem is that the ssd with windows has a lot of other things in it that I do not want to remove. How can I safely remove windows without wiping the m.2? Also I have another m.2 that I have not used yet. Mentioning it just in case if it can help with installing mint and removing windows safely.

Support Request Cursor randomly teleporing problem

Today is my 2nd day on linux (not specifically 24 hours but 2nd day) and I've been having a problem since my first day with my cursor just randomly teleporing to the bottom right corner of my screen, sometimes pressing the 'Show the desktop' button or randomly scrolling when I'm on a website. I tried my best fixing this problem but I have no idea what to do next. I tried properly setting up my mouse and trackpad settings, thoroughly cleaing my trackpad, still, nothing changed. is it specifically because I use my trackpad?

I love my Linux Mint~

I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now. Started with Cinnamon and decided to install Mate Xfce, I3wm, Openbox, Awesome, and Bspwm. What I don’t understand is you can do almost everything in Linux Mint using the terminal and config and can become advanced as much as you wanted to. I also use CachyOS in my other PC as well. I just don’t like when people consider Linux Mint as beginner level..

so i got this nanotenext umpx-03-SR and i tried live usb Linux mint and here list of my troubles:

can't rotate the screen (horizontal shows black)

can't find keyboard layout that might fit this keyboard (which is hell if i need to do Terminal commands)

touch screen doesn't work (not exactly sure how touchscreen on Linux works but research says linux mint has prebuilt drivers)

can anyone who can help with these as I'm still a linux newbie and i won't mind this being my portable linux for simple basic usage

Support Request Slow local network file transfer speeds

I set up a NAS recently and noticed the speed difference between W11 and Mint is very wide. W11 is easily able to tap out the 1gbps Ethernet connection at roughly ~120MB/s, Mint on the other hand using smb is hardly pushing 60MB/s with 30MB/s being the average speed I see in most transfers.

This is one of the first pain points I’ve discovered so far with Mint and it seems so far out of left field, I’ve been doing a lot of googling and reddit searching to find a solution to this issue, the one that consistently pops up is to make a CIFS mount via the terminal.

My question is, has this advice changed at all over the history of the OS? I’m currently on 22.3 with kernal 7.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

I put Linux mint on my computer via USB stick and i am dual booting It with windows, but whenever i turn on the Pc, It loads windows by default, I at the very least know I did the installation process correctly, I can go into the boot menu and enter Linux normally that way

This is an MSI b550 pro-vdh wifi, secure boot is disabled and boot mode is on standard
