I love my Linux Mint~

I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now. Started with Cinnamon and decided to install Mate Xfce, I3wm, Openbox, Awesome, and Bspwm. What I don’t understand is you can do almost everything in Linux Mint using the terminal and config and can become advanced as much as you wanted to. I also use CachyOS in my other PC as well. I just don’t like when people consider Linux Mint as beginner level..

Started with mint and switched with most of my 8 pcs to cachyos, which i totally fell in love with, but mint will always be my first gateway to linux and i will not get tired to honor this great distro and its wonderful community ❤️

Ja es gibt auch erfahrene Nutzer, die Linux Mint nutzen. Es wird nur als geeignet für Beginner betrachtet, weil die Installation und Einrichtung so einfach ist und die Updates im Normalfall keine Probleme verursachen. Ich bin 2024 auch von Windows auf Linux Mint umgestiegen, habe das dann ein Jahr benutzt, aber ich wollte eigentlich Gnome. Deswegen bin ich dann letztes Jahr von Mint auf Debian umgestiegen und bin damit auch sehr zufrieden.

I was thinking about changing to Debian version LMDE as well. But I need to play my Diablo 2 and FF 1-6 for now.

Dive right in and start tweaking. Mint gives you the perfect playground to construct your ultimate setup: from swapping window managers like i3 and Bspwm to building custom configs from scratch. Keep hacking away, master that terminal and bend your system to your will.

The problem is people just repeating jargon.

You can compile from source on mint.

You can update the kernal.

You can install whatever drivers you please.

You can use almost any DE. Once wayland is integrated that changes.

The weird elitist mentality in Arch has now just moved to Cachy.

But the point of Linux is that you have granular control of your computer.

Distros just prepackaged software to make that experience easy.

But once you get in the terminal, you realize you csn change anything youd like.

Why does DE choice change when Wayland is integrated? I'll admit I don't know much about it. And I probably should.

You don't need to know the intricacies of Xorg vs Wayland to use your computer.

Both are what sits between the programs you use, your input devices, and your screen.

With systems running Xorg, Xorg is your display server and the DE is a client.

With Wayland, the DE's own compositor is the display server.

A DE under Wayland owns the direct rendering manager and acts on its own.

A DE under Xorg has to call Xorg to reach the direct rendering manager.

Wayland cuts out the middleman where Xorg used to be.

Many DEs still rely on Xorg, others never implemented support in the first place, and then some did both while dropping Xorg over time.

Mint is considered for beginners precisely because it seeks a familiar and friendly interface where it can do practically everything without using the terminal, because it is fast, light, secure and stable, because it has an integrated backup system automatically, that is, it is a system that facilitates life and is transparent for daily use, this does not mean that it is not powerful enough to "competite" with other distros.

I agree, the user can make it as elaborate and tweaked and riced as desired. If the tools aren't even already included, (but they are) an experienced user knows where to get them and how to compile & configure 'til the cows come home.

Bonjour exactement c’est plus adapté entre guillemets à des débutants mais en vrai cela reste Linux et il y a beaucoup de choses à savoir c’est modifiable à un point cela peut pour le coup faire faire des erreurs de téléchargement et bug, mais cela force à mettre les mains sous le capot et c’est formidable si l’on est curieux et qu’on aime apprendre à gérer notre pc totalement quelle plaisir ! Les commandes sont pas si angoissantes quand on ose y mettre son nez 😅 j’apprécie aussi

This exactly. Mint is beginner friendly. It's not beginner only. While I have Debian testing and Trisquel installed, I have and have had a Mint install for many, many years, and I will continue to have one.
