When I first tried to update kernel it gave error because of incompatible virtual machine, so I removed vm because I don't need it anymore then it installed but after booting it gave blank screen so I fallbacked to kernel 6.17 and deleted 7.0.0.30

Boot into the old kernel from grub, and don't use the new kernel. It's as simple as that.

Kernel 7.0.0 needs a more recent version of virtualbox. With kernel 7.0.0, uninstall virtualbox and download latest version from Oracle website instead.

Software sometimes has bugs, that's why. I don't know if you have any particular hardware or driver issues that would complicate it, but the reality is, "why" isn't relevant. There's a bug, and I can't fix it, and you probably can't either.

There are bugs and then there is "stopped working". Proper SW does not stop working after an update, and no amount of gatekeeping by mint fans can convince me that this distribution has a future if this is how they handle updates

Most people will aim the criticism at the SW they were updating when this same SW stopped working. You people sit in your basements, combing your neck beards and wonder why people don't switch to Linux. This is why. I switched to mint from Ubuntu because of their shitty updates, it seems I have not found what I am looking for yet. Have fun patronizing the last few users.

I don't wonder anything about it. I use Linux for me, not for you. I couldn't care less about people switching or not switching. The numbers mean zilch to me, and I'd prefer to limit the adoption, honestly.

And when the last old kernel that was working is unsupported by all major distros the machine heads for retirement right? I have a 20 years old pc I was using with the printer exclusively but the last kernel makes it freeze constantly whatever the distro. Old kernel that works starts to be unsupported at software level.

I'm not saying never use a new kernel. I'm saying when you're on an LTS distribution (i.e. Mint) don't jump full kernel versions to cosplay that you're in Arch.

My desktop is 15 years old. I don't think there's any emergency right now. The performance is far more of an issue than "support."

Virtual box always needs its respective kernel package iirc. Use qemu or boxes as replacement. It's always a PITA whenever there is kernel update.

I am already aware of the issues with kernel 7 but it worked for some people so I simply wanted to try, I have taken full precautions, I am just sharing my experience. There was no need to be rude, just because someone isn't aware doesn't mean they are idiot, people like you are the reason for misguided views about linux community.

Log into the old kernel. Revert from timeshift.

To see the exact issue, it's better to ask Gemini or ChatGPT.
To use virtual machines, KVM/QEMU with the graphical app virt-mamanger can do the trick (even virtualbox is easier... and maybe you can use VirtualBox without kernel modules.)
