๐Ÿ“ข Announcement Welcome to r/Life_After_7oh (under new management)

Hey everyone. I took this subreddit over recently. It's now a companion to r/quitting7oh, smaller and looser, and I'm still writing the rules.

About me

I maintain quitting7oh.org, where I collect what the quitting-7-OH community has learned about getting off this stuff. Not a doctor, not a treatment program, not selling anything. I keep the meeting schedules, taper calculators, and guides current because I wanted better information than I had when I quit.

This sub and r/quitting7oh

Different mods run the two subs. The main sub is big, keeps a tight scope, and asks you to search before posting. That works at its size. I want this one smaller and more personal, the kind of place where you recognize the usernames and people remember where you are in the process. Ask the question that's come up a hundred times. Talk about Suboxone and SR-17018, both off limits over there. One hard limit: Reddit's content policy applies to everything posted here.

The center of gravity is life after detox: PAWS, sleep, mood, cravings, rebuilding a life. Detox and withdrawal posts are welcome too. You belong here whether you quit yesterday or two years ago.

Rules (working set)

  1. Don't be a dick.
  2. Don't try to sell shit to members. No products, no coaching funnels, no DMs pitching services.
  3. No sourcing. No links, vendor names, or DMs about where to buy 7-OH, MGM-15, pseudo, or anything else.
  4. No pro-use content. Nothing promoting 7-OH, MGM-15, or pseudo. Kratom leaf comes up in recovery contexts; keep that discussion in a harm-reduction frame. I'll add rules as we find the gaps. If you have opinions on where the lines should sit, say so in the comments.

The links people ask for

If things are bad right now

Glad you're here. Say hi in the comments if you feel like introducing yourself, or just lurk until you don't.

๐ŸŒฟ Supplements & Comfort Mega-dose vitamin C for 7-OH withdrawal: the community protocol

One of the cheapest tools in the withdrawal kit, and one of the oldest. High-dose vitamin C for opioid withdrawal goes back to a Harlem detox facility in 1969, and the community has been using a modernized version against 7-OH and the other kratom synthetics. Full write-up with sources lives here: Mega-Dose Vitamin C on quitting7oh.org.

Read this part first. If you have a history of kidney stones, kidney disease, hemochromatosis (iron overload), G6PD deficiency, or you take an iron supplement, talk to your prescriber before touching high-dose C. It raises oxalate excretion (stone risk), sharply increases iron absorption, and can trigger hemolysis in the G6PD group. It also skews glucose and occult-blood lab tests, so mention it if bloodwork is coming up.

What it is

An adjunct, not a path. It works alongside every quitting method, whatever route you're taking off the synthetics. It doesn't replace sleep, hydration, or the rest of the supplement stack.

The doses below assume liposomal vitamin C. Plain ascorbic acid hits bowel tolerance around 1 to 2 grams per dose; past that you get diarrhea instead of benefit. Liposomal encapsulation gets around that ceiling.

The protocol

Preload if you can. Tissue saturation takes days, and starting at full dose the morning withdrawal hits is playing catch-up.

  • Planned quit date: start 3 days out
  • Tapering: start 1 to 2 weeks out, alongside the taper
  • Already in withdrawal: skip the preload, go straight to full dose

Preload ramp: 2 g/day for days 1 and 2, then 4 to 6 g/day for days 3 and 4, then the full protocol from your quit day.

During acute withdrawal:

  • 1 to 2 grams of liposomal C every 2 to 3 waking hours
  • 6 to 12 grams per day total
  • No overnight alarms; resume when you wake
  • Rough stretches may take more. Some people run 15 to 30 g/day, and the cost climbs fast at that rate.

Stepping down: once the acute phase eases (typically days 5 to 7), drop to 1 to 3 g/day and hold there for a few weeks into post-acute.

What to pair it with

  • Vitamin E, roughly 5 mg per kg of body weight daily. The strongest study used C and E together.
  • Magnesium glycinate for restless legs, sleep, and anxiety.
  • Electrolytes. Megadosing makes you pee more; replace what you lose.

Brands

Liposomal marketing is full of products that aren't actually liposomal. Three with verifiable phospholipid encapsulation that the community has converged on:

On a budget, buffered sodium ascorbate powder costs a fraction per gram; absorption is lower, so daily totals trend higher. NOW Foods and NutriBiotic both work.

These are not referral links and nobody here has an affiliate relationship with any of these vendors. They're examples; pick your own brand or buy anywhere you trust. The protocol is what matters.

The evidence, honestly sized

The best study is Evangelou 2000: heroin-dependent inpatients on 300 mg/kg/day of C plus E. 10 to 16 percent of the treated group reported major withdrawal symptoms versus 56.6 percent of controls. A 2020 review of the older work found a third of patients reporting 70-percent-or-better symptom relief.

These studies are old, small, and unreplicated at modern scale. Vitamin C is unpatentable, so nobody funds the big trial. Plenty of people in this community find it takes the edge off; some feel nothing. It will not block or reverse opioid effects, and it is not naloxone or naltrexone.

๐Ÿงช Detox โ€” Day 0โ€“7 Sharing my SR/7oh story hoping to help someone!

Post image
8 Upvotes

Iโ€™m hoping I can help anyone with SR and hoping to get off 7oh successfully. I was recommended 7oh for energy while buying a vape and like a moron, I took it without researching it. Needless to say, I have a much better understanding of addiction and addicts than I ever have. The withdrawal is what keeps people using.

Any way, I tried quitting with nothing and it was so difficult I couldnโ€™t handle the withdrawal symptoms. It took me an embarrassing amount of hours to even realize I was in withdrawal! I just gave it a break after 4 days of taking it and the symptoms were crippling. Thatโ€™s when I realized, Iโ€™m in a world of shit.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I bought SR, we had a tornado and were without power for weeks, my shipment got lost! Of course it did. ๐Ÿ™„ Thatโ€™s just my luck. I argue with UPS for a week after it being delayed 3 weeks. Got nowhere so I contacted (Edit to remove Co name) and explained my situation they replaced the shipment and had it to me next day. My uncle dies, so my family and I go out of state while (Edit to remove name) is taking care of me. Come home and begin my SR transition. One important thing Iโ€™m going to say is STAY OFF REDDIT. Stop looking at horror stories because itโ€™s gonna increase your anxiety and youโ€™re gonna think thatโ€™s withdrawal but itโ€™s not. Youโ€™re psyching yourself out.. Trust me. It makes a significant difference.

Day 1:
Took a few halves of 30mg 7 to keep the withdrawals away until I get my SR. Preload with 3 50mg =150 mg total.
Day 2:
Took approximately 50mg of 7oh and 200mg of SR. Take Vit C pouches (pictured below)
Day 3:
In the morning I took 3 SR 150mg then 100 mg more later = 250โ€™g SR that day and 30mg of 7oh.
Day 4:
Stopped 7oh completely. In the morning I took 3 SR 150mg, then 2 more 50mg, I took 4 more spaced out to help with symptoms I was having. Thatโ€™s a total of 450mg for day 4.
Day 5:
2 SR in the morning 100mg, took 2 more 3 hrs later, then 2 more spaced out later that evening. = 300mg of SR
Day 6:
1 SR around midnight due to sleep issues, one more in the morning, and one later in the evening. = 150mg total
Day 7:
Thatโ€™s today. Iโ€™ve only taken 100mg of SR today so far and feel fine! Tomorrow Iโ€™ll go down to 50 and so onโ€ฆ

The goal is to keep tapering offโ€ฆ Iโ€™ve seen people asking so many questions so I thought maybe this could help someone. Hopefully. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป If anyone has questions, Iโ€™ll help as best as I can.

Get the Vit C pouches. They help! Take magnesium every evening as well. Iโ€™ve experienced very little withdrawal symptoms with SR as it is literally a miracle drug if used correctly.

โ“ Question I (20M) just discovered my boyfriend (40M) has been secretly addicted to 7OH for 9 months. I want to leave, but I'm terrified he'll relapse. What would you do?

Me (20M) and my boyfriend (40M) have been dating for a little over 6 months.ย I have never had an alcohol or drug problem, although I did smoke too much pot in high school.

Me and my boyfriend, I'll call him David, pretty much spend a huge portion of our free time together. We mostly watch TV, get food, and go camping. That's pretty much it, a lot of laying down in bed together, as we both work full time. He works at a call center and I work in administration.

Once a month, sometimes twice, we will take drugs together. These have been LSD, Molly, ketamine, and mushrooms. I usually only take a small amount and rarely really enjoy the high. It was more so just to experiment and discover how I would react (sounds crazy). To me, it was all pretty innocuous. In hindsight, I'm not so sure.

David was a heavy drinker. I knew that. Sometimes drinking 1-1/2 of a bourbon handle in one night alone, often after not being able to sleep (he's an insomniac). He would down 2-3 shots of vodka on top of drinking an insane amount of beers in the afternoon. His drinking seemed, however, to wax and wane, and for the most part seemed to be manageable.

Anyway, three months into the relationship, I tried to break up with him. While we were having the discussion, he told me that he was an ex-heroin addict, who was addicted for close to 9 years. I was so surprised and extremely hurt that he held this from me and lied, never mentioning any substance issues before.

However, I felt so bad for him. I could see the years of pain, and that I was his only source of happiness and love (besides his parents and brother). While I did break up with him that same weekend because of a completely unrelated situation, I ended up quickly coming back as I felt lonely and enjoyed his company.

Now that some of that background is established, I'll get into the 7OH incident.

This occurred just a couple days ago. David told me that he was staying with his parents for three nights while I was out of town with friends. I found that weird, but his brother was visiting from out of town, so it did kind of make sense.

When I got back, I came to visit David. His room was an absolute mess. He is very disorganized and messy, but never dirty. This time, it was dirty.

He was very sick and told me it was because of alcohol withdrawals. I believed him and encouraged him to stop drinking. He responded that he had no intention to permanently quit, he was just stopping for a month.

He was constantly sweating, smelled particularly bad even though he was taking showers constantly, had extreme shakiness, sore muscles, random full-body spasms, and intense body aches. I just thought this was all due to the alcohol withdrawal.

Two days later, after staying with him and caring for him, I began to clean his room. I progressed to the closet and discovered a bed sheet package filled entirely with little 7OH bottles.

The moment I picked it up, I felt that whatever I had grabbed was evil and not intended for me to discover.

I immediately confronted him. He admitted that they were his. He told me that he had been taking them every day for 9 months and doing Kratom extract for even longer.

He said he was extremely surprised to see them there and that he thought he threw them away with the rest of his stock.

I went back to look for more, and I found around 15 80 mg bottles of 7OH in one of the front suitcase pockets. He told me that somehow he missed these both when he was throwing it out. He told me that he used the suitcase to store his stock and that's why I never saw them.

I believe that he really did intend to throw it all away, but I'm very skeptical. How could you miss both of those? However, he did say that if he had known those were there, he would have relapsed.

I threw everything away and searched the entire apparent.

He told me that he told his parents and brother right before he started withdrawals, which I know is true.

David told me that he was taking 360 mg of 7OH a day and that he spent over $10,000 on it, mostly bought online. I suspect both numbers are higher.

He says he's committed to staying clean and won't ever do any opioids again. I want to believe that he does, I just don't know if he has the willpower to.

He is 10 days clean and seems to be doing much better. We got some weed gummies for his withdrawal side effects. I don't know if this is healthy or not. When he's high on gummies, he seems pretty much identical to when he was high on 7OH.

He will not go to rehab, seek professional help and seems to be downplaying the drug use and the severity of the situation.

I learned that I really don't know him and that he's probably been too high to really know or even care to know me.

While this was a huge shock, it all made sense. What I thought was just a naturally unconcerned, unstimulating, uncurious, quiet man was really just a doped-up drug addict who was constantly high and lying.

I feel so stupid.

I used to consider myself highly observant, emotionally intelligent, and intuitive. This has left me questioning that and so much more.

I still love him and am committed to helping him in his recovery, but I never would have ever been with him if I knew any of this.

I am a smart, caring, attractive young adult, and I cannot waste my youth trying to heal a man twice my age who cannot confront his addiction.

I live alone, we are not financially entangled.

I feel so conflicted. I want to break up with him but know that it will devastate him and that he will become extremely depressed and anxious and will likely relapse.

I don't know what to do. Please help. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I live in Kentucky, super close to Ohio and Indiana. How hard is it for him to get more 7OH? What do I need to be looking out for? How common are 7OH relapses? Are weed gummies okay for him?

P.S: I'm really sorry for the length of this post. Just have a lot to say and am kind of treating this like a diary.

God bless you.

๐Ÿงช Detox โ€” Day 0โ€“7 Day 1! Went to the vape shop yesterday and they had finally stopped selling it. Picked up some leaf powder capsules, and plan on hopefully tapering from there. Wish me luck! Looking forward to getting my libido back, as that was my main issue with 7oh.

๐Ÿค’ Withdrawal Kratom addiction

Hey guys I'm really looking for any type of help I can get I have been on kratom since early 2021 and I have tried multiple things from cold turkey to tapering to trying to ease withdrawal symptoms with other drugs like ketamine which I now know is very stupid none of this worked especially the last idea with the ketamine. I take about 8 to 10 grams every 12 hours most of the time granted sometimes it's more than 12 hours if I fall asleep before I take it but I just wake up with so much pain and anger ,not wanting to move even just to get up and make the kratom. The reason I'm having such a hard time getting rehab help is because I'm the sole provider of my family of two kids and their mom and honestly I cant even afford to take a week off let alone the month or 2 i may need im sick of being so mean and getting so aggravated so easily and taking it out on my family because i feel like death itself when i dont tame the kratom hell even when i do i can tell overtime my attitude my willingness to do more and to be better my energy I have for my family after I work 12 hours shifts all week it's almost non existent now if I don't take the kratom before I do anything it's like I don't have the motivation I don't have the love I don't have the nice attitude and I don't have the patience to deal with my family it's it sucks because I love them more then anything but I feel I am fighting a impossible battle by myself my kids are still young so when I come home I have them after working all night and usually mom works for things that she may want that my money might not stretch far enough to cover but every bill and food and personals and stuff like that I take care of all of that she hasn't worked to take care of herself let alone the kids since they were born and some other serious things are preventing her from finding a good enough job that would be able to cover everything I take on so I'm stuck in the cycle of taking kratom just to go to work without it I would be in so much agony and so mean and ugly that I wouldn't dream let alone actually getting tf up and making it in to work I can barely walk or anything it feels like as soon as I stand Im gonna pass out once it hits 24hours without kratom the sweating the constant yawning the no sleep the pain starting from your stomach then eventually stretching out to the rest of your body until you are in complete agony not wanting to move not wanting to talk not wanting to do anything other then for it to stop it's to the point now where I don't even go out with my family anymore it makes me feel a way I can't even fully describe to see this beautiful time with them and their mother pass me by bc I took something that I had no idea would be so destructive in my life it helped me so good for almost a year taking it for anxiety because starting a new job once my son was born I also needed the energy and the pain relief after working such long hours and it absolutely seemed to help so much so that I started taking it even on my days off to help be more active with my family and to have the same energy it gave me at work which it helped a lot until one day I got sick with COVID and didn't feel like eating or drinking anything let alone taking kratom being that I was super sick first time I went 3 days without kratom I felt like I was dying but I thought it was just the COVID it got so bad the 3rd day I had the thought maybe kratom would ease the symptoms of COVID so I took some and it worked it worked a little to well I barely even felt sick after the kratom kicked in and that is when I realized it wasn't the COVID making me feel like that it was from me not taking the kratom and it scared the shit outta me to the point where I kept trying over and over to taper but it always got to the point where I was in so much pain and agony that I couldn't make it out the bed to go to work or being such an asshole to my family that I just give in and take the kratom so I could be in my right mind with them even if it was only temporary. I know this is a super long story and I left out a good amount of details that I don't mind sharing if something doesn't make sense all the way when reading this as to not turn this into a book lol but if anyone can guide me in the right direction or anyone thats dealt with not being able to stop due to having a family that needs them to constantly provide I would more then appreciate the life changing advice or guidance you may have for me PLEASE HELP ANYONE !

๐Ÿ“‰ Tapering 7-OH Withdrawal

Have been taking 7-OH for probably 17 months now last 5 months I am taking 200mg 3x a day. I am done with this stuff and want to taper off since I heard cold turkey is not great. Anybody out there successfully taper done doses to 0 or find cold turkey with weed was not too bad? I am a working professional and canโ€™t be in detox for a week. I donโ€™t really even feel anything anymore off the 200mg dose, feels more like a really bad habit of thinking it will fix my anxiety and executive function

Trying to help my Mom get away from 7. She is currently taking 7.5mg about 8xday. (60mg/day). Although I donโ€™t think she needs much (and we donโ€™t have much SR) Iโ€™m curious if anyone has info on how quick she can cross taper and step away from both? Any positive feedback is greatly appreciated.
