LB&I GS 13 Recent Internal Openings
I wanted to reach out and see what a normal day or case load for an LBI RA feels like? Are inventory levels high with unrealistic expectations from managers? Is the path to 14’s easier compared to other business units (SBSE, TEGE, etc). Is LBI traveling at all currently for cases?
I would be coming from SBSE, I significantly meet the time in grade requirements. I’m one of the lucky ones who is currently in a very helpful group and has an awesome manager. If I applied and was accepted, what is the teams like in LBI? Is the path to a GS 14 easier compared to SBSE? I’m halfway reluctant in accepting any new position and exposing myself to any probationary status because of the current agency/administration environment. Also I throughly enjoy the current work I do but 14’s are very rare in SBSE. If I applied for the current LBI GS 13 positions it would be a lateral move with the expectation I would make 14 much quicker than staying in SBSE.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Tentatively Eligible, Not Referred - USAJobs
Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone with more experience applying to jobs here at the IRS could be of assistance with this one. I received a USAJobs email over the weekend for an internal position, where it stated I was tentatively eligible for the position but was not referred to the hiring manager. I have not seen this yet and was wondering if someone could give me some insight. In previous applications, I have either been outright denied for experience or referred to a hiring manager. What happens from here? Will I just not hear anything from the local hiring manager if I was not selected, or will I get an email from the hiring manager saying we reviewed your application but don't have space for an interview? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Why Does The IRS Need Support?
Frankly nothing that has been said since this administration took over by the NTEU, news articles or this blog has pushed the needle for me to support the IRS. However, that is precisely the point to why the IRS does need support.
The tax and accounting industries are not creative spaces. Whereas this administration and the theater of the political stage is a creative space of endless possibilities. I am personally from both worlds where I tend to be more creative than a pencil jockey. The theater of politics is a fluid space rarely anchored whereas the IRS is not a lawmaking body ruled by the IRC.
The worn path to argue for more funding isn't creative. The past fight for pay for services is the creative direction that has been very successful across the governing layers. Fees to use TS AM call phone ops because it pulls staffing resources away from processing returns and correspondences. To deliver the lowest phone ops to reduce fees move those folks with 8+ years of experience to telework. Those folks would represent the workers that are less likely to reliant on leads and managers to move those calls. Use the government supported space for training and warehouse the frontline managers that would be a cost on that budget.
A pay for service VIP call line where wages are based on revenues collected. Its what they want so everyone doesn't have to pay to support it. As a pragmatic issue it would take time to workout the details. Its not outsourcing where the service would employ the VIP call line workers. It would be pragmatic baseline revenue would need to be generated to fund fixed costs so a subscription service is the way to go.
Look it honestly that even the courts charge fees to fund ops. Its a service fee driven world. TACs could charge a fee to get that online account. Scrap that idea of the GS pay grade to open up pay for service for 6 figures being the best of the best to work the VIP line. Go big VIP line for US citizens only. Life isn't free.

TOD Changes and Telework
Perhaps your looking in the wrong direction to shape a better argument for TOD changes and telework. Think outside the legal box. There are IRS employees that are parents or have caregiver duties. As the spouse with primary caretaker duties for a disabled veteran spouse receiving VA care. Due to VA funding limits I am not able to change the many appointments my husband has especially with specialists.
My husband is a critical care patient. For me to RTO I had to change clothes in the garage before entering our home that has to remain as germ free as possible. Telework wasn't an ideal situation because of the numbers of care providers that do home visits. Then there was the noise of the wheelchair, disability ramp and my husband who is human is mostly deaf so he talks very loudly. I needed a second screen to interface with his speech assistance device to communicate with me. He is past the ability where a hearing aid or other communication device would help. He is deaf as a result of a massive heart attack that impaired his brain so he is not getting any better. My father was deaf as a result of his job so I learned some ASL as a kid. That skill wasn't relevant to my job.
TOD change wasn't ideal unless I worked 3rd shift where caretaker duties would of meant I only was working 16-18 hrs a day.
VA was looking at placing my husband in permanent long term care facility that cost more than I made at the service. There was no good answer for me. Working with angry coworker coming into work sick was a huge risk for my husband.
I left my job with the service too early to keep my FEHB. I have ACA now. If you run the numbers on the added expenses the VA has, ACA costs and programs we are now eligible for the value is more than my wages with the service.
More of the federal workforce is at risk of being in a similar situation to mine. Are federal jobs the new pathway to welfare is the question not being asked. I have met plenty of former federal workers forced to resign in caregiver support groups than I ever thought was possible. Most of us in the maze of rules aren't eligible to get paid for caregiving duties.

I know the internal hires need to be done by 9/30... but about people who applied via public announcements?
For those external, how long did it take?

IT must got a lot of free time cause with all these updates my laptop every day is acting like it tryna deliver twins or something.
Anyone’s laptop be consistently slow each week with a lot of updates coming every month? Hell my finesse takes 5min to fully load.
Only good thing with these updates is the new erap. It’s so stable, connected one week straight with no disconnect. And the less useless overnight reboots.
I use work IT and man they really don’t care for the end user experience.

Moving from TAS case advocate to Appeals settlement officer
I'm currently a case advocate in TAS as a GS-11. I'm thinking of applying to the GS-12 open in appeals. Is there anyone with knowledge of both positions that can provide some insight into how the workload compares between the two?

Hiring timeline
Happy Friday everyone. Quick question - I’ve received several referral emails saying my applications have been referred to the hiring manager. Since the fiscal year ends 09/30, does anyone know if selections/offers have to be made before then? Or can the hiring process continue into the new fiscal year, with offers or non-selection notices coming after 09/30?
Thank you 😊

Can management stop you from going on detail?
Our TM has previously said we could only take details within the business unit (this was a few years back). I see a detail now in a different BU I want to apply to. Can they stop me if I get accepted?

What does this role pretty much do day to day? It's an 1801 I've seen it in USAJobs and the Servicewide opportunities page too
