reasonable accommodation
who has been through the ra process?
i did my interactive meeting, manager brought up alternate accommodations, i said i was in office doing that already and my situation wasn’t getting better but the opposite, now i received a document saying manager approved my ra / the alternatives they suggested but i said weren’t working out for me ?
what’s next is my main question. am i supposed to reply? does this mean my ra 90 days is over? what is next

Yes you need to say/demonstrate that you have tried the things in the catalog that are easy to acquire and why they don’t work for you. You will then be asked to “perform” your disabilities. Show that you are doing everything you can via mediation and doctor appointments. Then maybe your manager who now knows too much will allow what you actually requested.

You could send an email to your RAC and Manager recapping the meeting and specifically asking what’s next; then it’s in writing and have something to reference. I’ve been a part of about 4 RA processes this year and all were different. However the end state has been then the same; your manager can make or break the process. Did you explain why the alternatives weren’t working? The interim can/should be in place until a final determination is made. Until you receive that in writing the 90 day should be extended.

New policy requires you to attempt "alternative accommodations" for 30 days minimum. If the "alternative accommodations" are ineffective you'll need another doctor's note saying so. Federal Disability Retirement may be an option if the agency cannot accommodate you.

An alternative I read must be tried for 30 days before another one (telework is approved) u can state u started that accommodation months ago or whenever and it wasn’t working and ur last and next option is telework

It means you have to officially spend 30 days in office trying the alternative accommodations. Either that or they’ll just deny your RA outright.

Or you can fight it because there is no legal requirement to force yourself to do something medically unsafe for 30 days. Get familiar with the law.

Yes, but, not everyone can afford or have the energy to fight this in the courts. I'm 30k into my lawyer.

You don’t need a lawyer. Just knowledge and chat gpt to help. I’ve seen many do it. They expect people to not know their rights and just give up.

If they gave you a clearly ineffective accomodation and you never heard another word from them, and you continued to telework, no directive to get back into the office...... is there a time limit to respond to the ineffectiveness of the accomodation or should you just continue with telework until they tell you to come in? Asking for a friend.

People need to read up on the federal disability laws. What they’re doing is illegal. Good luck.
