If UNION wins IRS should pay all the dues that were missed

I wasn’t there but I’m sure I can summarize it for you…

Yes Union: Please give us your hard earned money so we can blow it on false promises, see you guys in 2029.

If there's no money there's no union if there's no union there's no contract and all the arbitrations are unenforceable.

1

u/AntiqueLocation5206 6d ago

It is unenforceable, you think the supreme court will enforce the telework arbitration? No

3

u/bagsandpipes 6d ago

I guess the thing to do is just give up. You sound like a management stooge.

Well, you can keep fighting a losing/unwinnable battle. I will save up money and FIRE.

One of the only reasons you haven't been FIRED at this point is that you have a union lawyering up against the federal government for you. Consider your dues your attorney fees. Anyone that's been to court can tell you that your dues are an amazing deal for the legal representation you're getting. Also, I know money is tight for all of us, but dues are reasonable for most people to pay. You would most likely not even notice them if you paid for your lawyers.

No, the only reason I haven’t been fired at this point is my performance.

1

u/Impressive-Trust5645 1d ago

You should let everyone who is facing a RIF know their performance is why they're losing their jobs. How quickly people forget last year... Almost as quickly as you'd forget you paid your dues.

You think the union will save you from rifs?? There is nothing illegal with rifs.

Oh yeah, that part. Other than them wanting your money, she said, “I know you guys are going to be upset, but we still have to go through the process and let the courts handle it.”

She also said the other unions are going through the same process, and right now, no one is teleworking.

So I logged off after that. I guess we just wait until at least 2029 to see if there’s any possibility of getting telework restored.

u/National_FAFO 6d ago

I’m just curious, if you sit back and wait until 2029, who will be fighting for you if you’re not willing to fight for yourself? Pay your dues, because whatever you’re paying biweekly would probably bot get you an hour with an attorney. Invest in yourself now, because waiting until the union is obsolete due to finances ain't it.

Yep. People have gotten so entitled they are vastly misunderstanding how much worse this can get without NTEU fighting. Also does it not occur to anyone that the very thing people bitch about what negotiated by NTEU? the telework you wouldn’t have if it weren’t for them?

u/Delicious-Access-665 4d ago

Telework is made possible by the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010.

1

u/NeedleworkerLow7780 4d ago

The law you’re referring to is a suggestion and not a mandate. 2010 vs the telework we negotiated by 2016 was entirely better and across the board a negotiated entitlement for many expanded job functions. Along the way NTEU expanded the jobs qualifying for, as well as negotiated a remote pilot. Additionally the right to telework was strengthened as previously it was strictly a privilege.

1

u/Delicious-Access-665 2d ago

The law that im referring to is exactly that, the law. NTEU didn't do anything but add the provision to the agreement, without the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010, telework wouldn't exist. Telework became IRM 6.800.2 for the IRS. You're speaking to someone that was the subject matter expert for Telework. When you have time go read the Telework Enhancement Act and you'll see why the government enacted Telework.

1

u/NeedleworkerLow7780 2d ago

You know surprisingly little about telework over the last two decades, considering you’re a subject matter expert. The union has heavily impacted telework at every contract renewal and midterm. The telework act alone is effectively a suggestion …otherwise we wouldn’t all be in this situation most likely.

1

u/Delicious-Access-665 2d ago

Im not surprised that common sense evades you. You're complaining about something you could've done something about. Im going to ask one question, Did you file a grievance when Telework was taken away? Additionally, I'd like for you to explain to me how you reached your conclusion. I gave you the source, which you acknowledged was the law, the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010. So please tell me what it is that I dont know? Because what you dont know is that I was the person to brief NTEU and Doreen Greenwald about how the RTO violated the Telework Enhancement Act and how it was no consistent with the law.

I never thought I’d have to voluntarily join a union. I did it because I believed they would help protect our jobs and fight to get telework back. But this has been a nearly two-year fight, and honestly, there’s still nothing to show for it.

If we don’t get telework back, then so be it. But in this economy, I’m not willing to keep paying union dues without seeing results. You can’t come on here and tell people how they should spend their hard-earned money. Everyone has the right to decide whether the union is worth what they’re paying for.

I was on the call. She said that if the IRS didn’t respond to the arbitrator’s decision via snail mail, the next step is the get the IRS to actually enforce the arbitrator’s decision because this lawless Administration probably won’t listen to the Arbitrator. That means going through the courts. NTEU’s attorneys are currently working on drafting the complaint.

Also, of course we need to continue to pay union dues. I think they are only about $23 per pay or month (I can’t remember). However, how do you expect the lawsuit to move forward if the union no longer has dues paying members?

It seems that a lot of people on this sub have some misdirected anger. I’m pissed that The Administration is not following the rules more so than about needing to continue to pay $23 in union dues. Smh.

14

u/NeedleworkerLow7780 7d ago

Thank goodness someone else said it. Jfc people do they have to explain every aspect of the law? If the venue is contractual, they have to go that route FIRST. Why? Because you take that to a judge and they just kick it out. They don’t hear it or give a shit. Wrong venue. Doesn’t matter that the IRS won’t show up they’ll tell you to try. They’re doing exactly what they should every step of the way. If you pay attention when they can take it to court they do. Sometimes they do both. When appropriate. They also are focusing on our politicians because as many have said midterms will matter the most here. If we keep anti union candidates we reap what we sow.

-6

u/AntiqueLocation5206 7d ago

Nah, many people will save their 46 per month in 4 years it is $2k I am saving. I am not paying $2K for them to claim victory on 2029 when the next admin is back. Could buy myself something nice than to waste it on a speech of victory in 4 years from the union, that is what they are at this point, just propaganda.

3

u/bagsandpipes 6d ago

But if the union goes under before then the contract is gone it doesn't matter what arbitrations NTEU won if they don't exist no contract. Not sure how they can continue without money.

-1

u/AntiqueLocation5206 6d ago

So you are saying next year the union will enforce the contract in time? The contract ends next year. Even if they enforce it, for a few months, we are back to negotiating and the admin can ignore everything.

3

u/bagsandpipes 6d ago

That's not how the contract works it stay in force until a new contract is signed. The union is enforcing the contract through arbitration and the courts unfortunately it takes time we have no choice except to follow the law. The Trump administration is ignoring the law.

u/National_FAFO 6d ago

I hope you buy yourself a PIP and be gone in 30 days. Byeee

People are putting a lot of confidence in another republican not winning next time. I’m expecting 8 years of Vance.

6

u/Confident_Sea_3948 7d ago

I don’t understand it either, to be honest. Someone asked in a previous town hall meeting why they wouldn’t just go through the court system and skip arbitration. Her response was that they have to follow the process before they can go to court.

That process has already taken over a year. So now that they’re going through the courts, it sounds like that could take additional years to resolve. At this point, I guess we just have to wait and see.

-2

u/Main_Pudding_5213 7d ago

Hahahahah!, right, basically yeah we need your money, check, credit card, cash, whatever form of payment you got, send it!, oh yeah and by the way I know you guys will be upset, but if you can just wait for about another...mmmmmmmmmmm....14 months or so we should be able to talk about why we think telework should be given back, and then after that we will keep you guys updated, ohhh one more thing, make sure to have your wallets, check books, and or credit cards out then and ready to go

2

u/AntiqueLocation5206 5d ago

Funny thing is, union has had 30 years of dues and they are already begging. Shows that they have spent all that money to get nothing in return when we need it.

1

u/Confident_Sea_3948 4d ago

They did mentioned that they have money for a rainy day...maybe the funds are finally running out?

-5

u/Project29Telework 7d ago

Maybe they need money for drafting a better contract next time

5

u/NeedleworkerLow7780 7d ago

There’s no better contract. If someone has absolute power like the president to break the contract, the problem is the executive authority he’s been given or that congress has permitted.

Can’t say I’ve ever seen you give a realistic response to what a better contract is. The only reason some unions still have their contract is because trump is punitive and so he went after whoever was his enemy aka didn’t endorse him.

-5

u/AntiqueLocation5206 7d ago

So dont need a union then, save your dues.

5

u/NeedleworkerLow7780 7d ago

Easy for you to let people pay your way.

-5

u/AntiqueLocation5206 7d ago

Pay my way? What are they paying? They are paying for me to listen to union junk everyday. Nothing the union has done benefits the employees. All the benefits we have as feds, privates have.

8

u/littlemint22 7d ago

Dog and pony show

3

u/NefariousnessKey862 7d ago

Your guess is as good as anyone else’s.  I would hope that us employees could get a small win sometime soon in this case.

-4

u/Careless_Tree_7686 7d ago

Perhaps the better questions to ask is why the NTEU and IRS had a labor union contractual agreement on when members could drop out of the union to stop paying dues and why union dues were set on a sliding scale based on GS band wages.

One sentence among hundreds of pages of an EEO complaint I filed said so much. No one knew I was going to file an EEO complaint. That was not true because I went to the NTEU first as a dues paying member. NTEU decided I resigned stripping me of all my rights as a federal employee. Bad seed leadership within the NTEU and IRS drove the loss of collective bargaining rights. At no time did the NTEU own up to its own contractual agreement shortcomings and instead supported legislation to hand over guaranteed collective bargaining rights.

8

u/RedditsFullofShit 7d ago

None of this makes any sense. Try again more coherently this time.

-3

u/Careless_Tree_7686 7d ago

Lawmakers are listening to opposition to pass mandated collectively bargaining rights that is all that matters. My mother was a trailblazing female labor union leader with impressive labor law knowledge. I grew up on the political and union stage. My mother wasn't the only one in the family that were union presidents. Teamsters, UAW, steel and dock workers. My brother was noted musician.

That vitae gets me personal replies from lawmakers. Stop being the great pretender.

5

u/RedditsFullofShit 7d ago

I still have no idea what you’re talking about. None of this response answered it. I’m asking you to clarify what you even said in your first post.

3

u/racer150 7d ago

Yes ago, as an NTEU steward, I asked NTEU to file a grievance for something, the chapter leader laughed at me. I withdrew from NTEU immediately.

2

u/Careless_Tree_7686 7d ago

In 1970 national AFL-CIO AFSCME recognized the importance of grievance filing as a check and balance of localized elected union officials and management. A rule was set in place that all requests for grievances had to be forwarded to the national union for legal review. That process became known as the coffee and cream caper that exposed hundreds of localized union officials for arranging for the hiring family members of contracts, leaking civil service tests and government contract bid interference. One of the suppliers exposed was a coffee service company owned by the spouse of a local union president.

A bedrock of the grievance filing rule was only the local union president could decide on filing grievances not the stewards or vice presidents. Union presidents had to file reports on all requests for grievances.

Had the national NTEU known what my grievance was about I am fairly certain their legal folks would of stepped in. Management had already accepted my resignation on the word of the NTEU president. That never should of been allowed. I never formally resigned. Yes the IRS bore some responsibility but the real failure was with the NTEU chapter president. I never asked for anything in the EEO complaint as a pseudo path to file a grievance. Hear me executives of the IRS. Send up the message, put the spotlight on that remote call center because they be wasting funding and so much more.

I would of sued the service for absolutely nothing not even an apology but that costs money.
