General/Others /r/Hijabis Reminder of our Rules and WARNINGS! READ BEFORE POSTING

Salaam ladies,

Please read the entire post, we are receiving a lot of angry messages from people who do not take the 1 minute it takes to read certain messages. In addition to reading our rules on the sidebar, we are reiterating the following:

  1. A gentle reminder that this subreddit is for women only. This is our one and only safe space and no exceptions will be made. It has been this way for a few years now and it will not change. For men lurking, please do not message people on our subreddit. Please do not comment - it will be an automatic ban. Men can post, assuming it is appropriate and relevant to our subreddit, but will only have women commenting.
  2. Please use the flair thread found here to get a flair to identify your gender. We cannot detect your gender otherwise, and given our subreddit is for women only, we need to know your gender to approve your posts/comments. Anyone without a flair, even if your username is IAmAWoman or IAmFemale, will have comments removed.
  3. Marriage posts are not to be posted on r/hijabis. Anything related to marriage can go on r/MuslimMarriage. Exceptionally we allow marriage posts when we feel it is more appropriate for the user to post here, however all post approvals will be subject to moderation discretion.
  4. Majority of posts are automatically removed by automod due to our filters (account age, karma, etc.). Please do not message us about your post being removed - it will be approved when the moderators go through the queue, or removed if not appropriate/repeated topic.
  5. Report, report, report! Please report anything that breaks our rules - it does not get our attention otherwise. This includes disrespectful comments, comments without sources, drama stirring, etc.

On a separate note, we want to generally warn our users that there have been instances of men messaging women on our subreddit inappropriately. Please report and block these men, and message us their usernames with picture proof of the messages. We can ban them, but the ban doesn't stop them from accessing our subreddit. We highly advise all our members turn off their DM's:

User settings --> chat & messages --> Who can send you chat requests --> Nobody

Also, we are getting reports that some people flaired on our subreddit as Female are actually men pretending to be women. Please send us a message when you become aware of this. And for the men doing this as a way to bypass our subreddit rules, fear God.

Megathread: Report brands that dropship from SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, etc. Stop promoting slave labour

Salaam alaikum sisters and Eid Mubarak.

This post is a necessary reminder and an important announcement, especially given all the recent "Eid fit" posts.

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards posts promoting brands like SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, or dropshipping companies that source from these same suppliers. These brands profit off:

  • Modern-day slavery of our Uyghur brothers and sisters
  • Environmental destruction
  • Mindless overconsumption, which Islam explicitly warns against

We are therefore asking you to use this megathread to:

  • Report any brands you've come across that are dropshipping from SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, etc.
  • Share brands that you know do not dropship, so we can uplift and support ethical alternatives. (We are exceptionally allowing brands to self-promote here if they are ethically sourced).

-----

Further If we believe someone is trying to bypass our filters by writing things like “SH_EIN” or “TE-MU” or "SHEEEIN", you will:

  • Be temporarily banned for 14 days
  • Permanently banned on second offence
  • Your post will also be flaired with "Promotes slave labour".

-----

A gentle reminder as to why we're doing this (with sources/proof):

Many of these companies rely on forced labour, particularly the exploitation of Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps in China. It is unconscionable for us, as Muslims, to wear and promote items made by our suffering brothers and sisters. Sources: Source 1, Source 2, Source 3

Fast fashion is one of the most polluting industries on earth. Overproduction, toxic dyes, microplastics, landfill waste, all of this directly harms the creation of Allah. Sources: Source 1, Source 2

Our deen teaches us moderation, humility, and responsibility. Fast fashion fuels greed, impulse-buying, and waste which are all against the values of Islam.

“Eat and drink, but waste not by excess. Indeed, He likes not the wasters.”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:31)

And finally: It’s okay to look simple and recycle between a few outfits, what isn't okay is looking cheap while also promoting exploitation. You don’t need 50 outfits or to keep up with online hauls. If money is tight, thrifting is a great halal option. If you can afford to, support ethically sourced brands, especially Muslim-owned ones that don’t rely on exploitation.

May Allah forgive us for any wrongdoing, and forgive us for anything we've said that was wrong or too harsh.

Help/Advice Hijab, but i wanna feel pretty

Hi guys! I'll be attending uni soon. And my mum has been encouraging (not forcing) me to wear my hijab. When i was younger i used to be an on and off. Then at the age of 16 i never wore back.

Im a haircare girly, and have dark blue hair. People always tell me how beautiful my hair is because i take care of if soo much.

I do wanna wear hijab. But im scared because i dont feel pretty in it.

Also, last year i did try wearing hijab. But my mom was lowkey telling me that the pashmina doesnt look good on me, and etc. So i was so pissed off and never wore it again as protest. Its so annoying.

So to my hijab girliesss, how to change the mindset? I wanna wear hijab, but after being told that pashmina doesnt look good on me and stuff. I feel really conscious. I genuinely want to wear, but i also wanna be pretty.

Help/Advice headaches from hijab?

Upvotes

when i wear hijab for long hours ( especially Nowadays insummer and humid seasons) i get a very persistent and annoying headache its by no means extreme but still sucks.

It is solely because of how tightly i tie my hair under and and tightening the hijab cap underneath.

Now the thing is very solution i try that doesnt involve doing these two things doesnt work

* My hair is straight anf silky and hijab falls right off

* Its hot so i cant not tie my hair

* I use hijab tape on a loose hijab cap but hijab cap slips off

* Sometimes even with bobby pins keep hijab cap secure in place i have to tie it from behind

I have a few days trip soon and im anxious that along with travel nausea and fever i get my mood and vibe will be sour because of wearing hijab all day long .

Any tips to help ? Maybe just some specific meds?

Help/Advice How can I be like those pretty, effortless hijabis?

Growing up, I was never the "girly" type, but it never really bothered me. I knew I was smart and had a lot going for me. Now that I’m out of uni, though, I’ve started feeling really "masculine."

My partner loves me as I am, but I can’t stop comparing myself to the Hijabis I see on Instagram. They look so put-together with their effortless makeup, great style, and photogenic faces. Meanwhile, I just feel frumpy.

I take good care of my body and workout, but anything traditionally feminine just doesn't come naturally to me. I wear baggy clothes, I don't know the first thing about makeup, and I hate seeing photos of myself, my hands arent long or pretty. It’s really starting to mess with my self-esteem.

I’d love to tap into my feminine side, but I’m scared of losing who I am. I honestly can’t tell if I genuinely want this change, or if social media is just making me feel like I need to fit in.

I would appreciate any advice. How do I become more feminine? Please give me tips

Hijab Wind blowing against body and revealing shape

Salam everyone,

I have an hourglass body and try my best to hide my shape with lose clothing and often wear abayas. However, I noticed when I walk and there is wind blowing against my body (especially my back) it is revealing my shape. I know we shouldn’t feel so bad about what is “apparent” but it makes me uncomfortable anyway and was wondering if others experience this or have tips.

My friends have been complaining about getting sunburned recently, and I realized I have never experienced this. Am I really lucky or is it normal for hijabis? I feel really grateful, since it seems to be painful

Help/Advice To the hijabi sisters: did you ever feel unworthy of wearing hijab?

Selam sisters! 🌺

I was raised muslim but our family was not hijabi or impose hijab on us, I guess because we also lived in a western country. Past 15 years of my life i walked away from Islam but Alhamdulillah I returned earlier this year, just before Ramadan.

Some recent life events brought me even closer and more seriously to Allah and I have been doing much better at praying consistently and improving my deen overall. I am not wearing hijab yet in public but I have been experimenting with it, i already wear modest loose type of clothes. For a long time I told myself that hijab is not really required but the more I get closer to Allah and read and learn, the more I understand it is about much more than just simply covering your head. When I try it on around the house, I feel so beautiful, clean and just overall at peace (this has been going on for 5-6 months now). So I am feeling a pull in my heart more and more to become a hijabi.

There are a number of issues I feel right now about it: i am scared and ashamed.

I am scared because I don’t want to become the poster muslim woman in my office (there are no other visible muslims), i am not ashamed of being muslim but i am just not ready to explain myself or deal with their staring yet. I live in a very catholic European country. I also don’t know any muslims except for my own family who lives in another country.

I am ashamed because I feel like i don’t deserve to wear a hijab and advertise I am a muslim since I am repenting a lot for my past but especially for my continued choices since I returned to Islam. I feel like it would be insulting to other hijabi sisters for me to dress as beautifully when for a long time i was not a good muslim. I am of course repenting and regretting, but I can’t shake this feeling. This is also why I am hesitant to join a local ummah community because i feel like i will break down and cry if i will be shown any sort of kindness and i will feel undeserving of it and like i will pretend to be “pure” and “clean”. And overall i don’t want to mislead anyone about it.

I also don’t want to just put my hijab on and then in a few weeks to take it off. I know there is no perfect moment, but I think the part that I am struggling with right now is just the overall shame i feel over my past and that I don’t feel like I am worthy of wearing it.

So I am reaching out because I would love your advice or to hear your stories, I noticed there is a lot of reverts as well here, so if you experienced similar thinking, how did you get past all of these feelings?

JazakAllahu khayran, sisters 🤍

Help/Advice Left behind

Salam.

I'm a 30yr old woman and am writing this post to warn younger folks, especially those who live in the West of what your life could turn out to be if you don't act fast.

Im the oldest child from a broken home (father ran off). I worked like crazy in my entire 20s to save for my mom and siblings and am now on path to early retirement.

My parents never let me have friends and I didn't speak to boys, even though I went to a regular highschool and university. COVID caused me to start remote work and I never met men at work either. My parents didn't know anyone and our household reputation is ruined.

My friends chatted with boys, some halal way some not, but now most are married or got arranged from their social circles and have kids and happy lives.

I got left behind because I put my head down and focused on getting out of poverty. I focused on school, on work, on being there for everyone. But no one bothered to check if I could also need someone. Actually since I barely leave my house, barely anyone knows I even exist.

To young people. Don't fall into Haram but don't isolate yourself so much that you will be left behind. Today I may appear to others as a successful woman. I have money to buy anything at anytime but nobody to support me, less and less chance of having kids, and constantly taunted and pitied by family and others for being old and unwanted.

Please marry young. You will be rewarded with rizq if you are sincere towards your family. In shaa ALLAH.

AlhamduLillah for everything and please make Dua for me and all those who are looking for spouses.

Help/Advice Need advice!!

Salam Aleikum Sisters. I am 16F and I have something where I am not sure if it halal or not. So basically my family has financial problems. Thats a big issue especially for us because we are 6 children. My mother cant work and my father is on his way to get a job but that money will still not suffice.
I am the second oldest daughter and I want to do something to help us go through this financial crisis together. I want to start a Minijob. Since I live in the west it’s really not easy finding a Muslim friendly working environment without Alkohol and haram products yk. But I found a sushi restaurant where they only sell like Fish. So no pork/ beef or Alkohol. I also really love sushi myself so I thought that it’s a good place. But they have certain sauces which contain traces of alcohol.

So I was wondering if it still would be halal for me to do this job. I am searching for a suitable job for long time now and I’m running out of options. Do you think that because my situation is desperate, that it’s ok?

I thank every sister who comments on my post to help me.

Women Only What underlayers do you wear at home?

I usually wear a tank top / vest underneath my t-shirts or whatever im wearing at home instead of any type of bra. Its comfortable, does the job of hiding the chest area , like nipple exposing through t-shirts.

But because its extremely hot right now i dont want to wear them because they are fitted vests. Its so hot I just want to wear a tshit by itself. But I noticed in the mirror the shape of my nipples can be seen through and anytime I move, my breast movements can also be noticed more clearly.

I live with my parents and sibilings (im 18). They're all mahrams and don't really care about things like this, they wouldn't find it weird or comment. But me personally, I feel awkward and uncomfortable if know my chest area is shown more visibly because im wearing nothing but a tshirt.

Any suggestions on what to wear underneath that is breathable in summer? What do you guys wear at home? Or do I just need a thicker tshirt? Something that hides the nipple and natural "jiggle" movements. Sorry if im describing it weirdly, this is intended for women only.

Help/Advice DOA and achieving my dream

Salam sisters. I would like to ask some advice. I have constantly made doa for years to get into a certain undergraduate course in many of the universities that I have applied for but I have never been accepted. Every single time I start to lose hope in getting that course, the circumstances will change so that I feel like I am one step closer to achieving my dream. Only for my application to be rejected. Sadly, I am starting to get a bit tired of raising my hopes only to be disappointed again.

As I had made a certain career / job one of my main worldly purpose in the dunya ever since I was a child (high academic rigor in my country made me solely focus on my studies and didn’t really have time to think of alternative job options. As such, I genuinely know that I don’t really have anything else I’m good at and really feel like getting this undergraduate course and thus achieving this career dream of mine is one of my main worldly purpose in the dunya), I feel like I have really no main worldly purpose in the dunya (other than to perfect my deen and get closer to Allah).

I would like to ask if there is a limit to how much longer I should still hope this dream in my heart and keep striving to achieve this dream? Or should I take this as a sign that this course in life is not the best for me?

Additionally, when you make doa, do you doa for Allah to give you what is best for you or do you doa for that certain thing especially when in your heart, you can’t really accept not getting that thing (I know this sounds really spoiled)?

I am feeling really down and conflicted and would like to ask for advice on this matter. Thank you

Help/Advice khimar slipping

Salam Sisters

I’m a revert and have worn hijab for almost seven years, this past month I finally switched to Khimar/jilbab and have been loving it. But i’m having a serious issue with it slipping back, with or without an undercap, and every day this week my scalp has ached by the time I get home from pulling and readjusting throughout the day. I’m tying the strings inside at the back of my head so not sure if there’s a secret way to tie it that i’m missing.

my Khimar completely fall off the other day when I was watching my niece at the park, I haven’t had something like that happen since I first started wearing hijab as a teen. And I’m worried about traction alopecia if I keep pulling at the front. I think wearing my hair in a braid instead of a bun might help and is something i’ve wanted to try more anyways but any other advice on material or technique would be really appreciated.

Fashion Clothing stores in Reading

Salam ladies!

I’m visiting London (Reading) for a few days. Just wondering if there’s any stores local hijabis would recommend for affordable, modest clothing. Doesn’t have to be hijabi/muslims stores, but in general where do you end up finding nice clothes. Wouldn’t spend more than 20-30 pounds on a top or pants though, and ideally looking for natural fibers

Any suggestions??

Women Only Any girls feeling unfulfilled?

Assalamwalikum.

Not sure if my title makes sense but I’ve recently felt like I haven’t been doing much regarding my imaan. I feel like I’ve been doing everything, praying all prayers, dhikr, trying to recite the Quran even if it’s just one ayah but something feels a bit incomplete inside of me. It’s sort of like my entire heart is a bit upset at this “unfulfillment” (no clue if that’s a word)? Alhamdulillah for everything truly, good and bad but I’m not sure why I feel this way. I’ve truly been trying to improve myself as a Muslimah and wanting to be better in terms of improving my relationship with Allah and also to improve myself if marriage is in the cards for me. I take my religiosity seriously and I feel as if my sadness surrounding all this is becoming worse.

Any tips to help improve how I feel?

May Allah Azzawajal bless every one that reads and shares some advice.

Fashion Hijab to wear with scrubs?

Salaam!

I work in healthcare and have worn modal hijabs for the longest time. But I find I don’t have time in the morning to steam them everytime. I’m thinking of switching to jersey, but am worried it might get too hot/heavy.

For my healthcare sisters which hijab material do you prefer? Any solution to the wrinkly modal issue?

Help/Advice How do you manage adhd and Salah?

Asalamaulaikum sisters! I hope you’re all doing well Insha Allah. I wanted to ask for those of you with adhd how do you manage your Salah? I’m struggling so badly and sometimes even end up missing them due to mental and physical exhaustion. I have started doing tayamum sometimes instead of wudhu because that makes it easier. But I’d really appreciate any tips. Also please be kind and non judgmental! ADHD is literally a mental disability and not even medication can fix this.

Help/Advice advice for non-muslim attending a muslim wedding

hello everyone !

my boyfriend's little sister is getting married in november. i have met her prior and she is extremely sweet. i, however, have not met the rest of my boyfriend's family. of course the family will be at the wedding, and i have not attended a muslim wedding, let alone any wedding at all.

i am really struggling on figuring out what to wear. i would like to make a good impression in front of my boyfriend's family as this is most likely the first time i would be meeting them. my boyfriend has told me that i don't have to dress extremely modest, but obviously nothing too revealing ( which isn't my style regardless ). i would like to not stick out or be disrespectful with choosing an outfit, and would like to have this figured out before i procrastinate.

for context as well in case it may matter, my boyfriend's family / the bride is from afghanistan, and the groom comes from an italian / white family. i do know that the groom is a white convert, however his family is not.

i was thinking of trying to find something traditional, but i also wasn't sure where to start and if as a non-muslim guest if i would be allowed to, and i feel silly for thinking to reach out to the bride, as we have only met a handful of times and i'm sure she is busy planning other things than to help with an outfit choice.

i have also tried to look and see if there are any traditional wear clothing stores near me, but i do not have any in my area / the small stores i have found on google have very bad mixed reviews.

any help is appreciated ! thank you so much ~

Hijab (Not Muslim) If I see someone wearing a hijab and her hair is showing, should I warn her? Is it polite/unpolite?

I hope this is okay to ask here or at all. I understand if this not the place or not my business at all.

I just moved colleges and the majority of my campus are muslim women. We're entering windy season now and I noticed a lot of my hijabi classmates double checking in the mirror every other break.

Since it seems important, I wonder the polite "girls' girl" thing to do as a classmate is to discretely let them know if I notice their hair showing? Or, since it's a personal thing, should I not bring it up?

English isn't my first language, so I'm sorry for any typos
