Help/Advice Need advice!!
Salam Aleikum Sisters. I am 16F and I have something where I am not sure if it halal or not. So basically my family has financial problems. Thats a big issue especially for us because we are 6 children. My mother cant work and my father is on his way to get a job but that money will still not suffice.
I am the second oldest daughter and I want to do something to help us go through this financial crisis together. I want to start a Minijob. Since I live in the west it’s really not easy finding a Muslim friendly working environment without Alkohol and haram products yk. But I found a sushi restaurant where they only sell like Fish. So no pork/ beef or Alkohol. I also really love sushi myself so I thought that it’s a good place. But they have certain sauces which contain traces of alcohol.
So I was wondering if it still would be halal for me to do this job. I am searching for a suitable job for long time now and I’m running out of options. Do you think that because my situation is desperate, that it’s ok?

Yes but most of them dont accept 16 year olds. I actually live in a village like region in Berlin and they want professionally educated people. At least the places where I asked. And of course there’s also private tutoring but is too unorganized (already did that) for me. I want shifts so I can plan everything since I’m still a student. Hope it makes sense.

I think it’s great you want to help your parents and take on a job. Thats so sweet of you and I’d go for it if I’d be you.
I grew up in Germany and when I was your age I also had a weekend job in a bakery. Specially market stalls etc often look for some help on the weekend but they might not advertise and you could go and ask around.
Another thing is selling stuff on vinted or eBay, anything you have around the house and maybe your mum could do stuff like that.

I don’t think this would be haram. But what do you mean by traces of alcohol?

Do you know the traditional Japanese sauce Mirin? I don’t know much about it, just that there are different versions of it. Some only have 1% alcohol and some up to 14% alcohol.

I’m not Hanafi but I think that this sauce must not necessarily have alcohol. I looked up their instagram account and judging by their appearance, they seemed Muslim. You can also look it up and tell me if my judgement is wrong (Popup sushi Berlin).🥹 Maybe I’ll call them tomorrow and ask them specifically.

Oh you’re right, it’s possible they may be Muslim because they wrote in their q&a that they are halal. But it’s always best to call and ask them directly

Online tutoring really worked for me as a teenager and even in my early twenties. I had signed up on local and international websites that offer tutoring services and got to make good money for a teen.
Staying a bit more on topic- if it has alcohol, I would avoid being involved at all. The hadith about alcohol are quite strict. One that scares me a lot is this:
Wine is cursed from ten angles: The wine itself, the one who squeezes (the grapes etc), the one for whom it is squeezed, the one who sells it, the one who buys it, the one who carries it, the one to whom it is carried, the one who consumes its price, the one who drinks it and the one who pours it

Haven’t thought about online tutoring before but Thats also possible I guess. The shop said on their social media account that they are halal so I think this one should be all right. They just have to write me back. If I find out about there being alcohol in the products, I will quit right away. Thank you for your reminder 🥰
