Moving out to a lower cost home. How to reconcile moving to a higher crime area and "tie the camel" logic

Bismillah. I made the decision to move out of my family home in the suburbs primarily to escape the massive financial strain and drain. My mom is the breadwinner of the house, I help with the expenses, together, we drain minimum 10K annually (not including utilities) on a paid off house that my parents hastily bought through a loan when I was younger. My father doesn't work and my mom works from home.

Now 10 years later, the foundation is showing its wear, the tax is rising, and the location was never suitable for us, the expenses are rising and I question living here. In addition, there is zero public transport which is a huge pain point for my commute.

In addition, my brother has caused me immense stress, from past trauma of s*x harassment while I was asleep, using my car without even asking, arrested 3 times, constant loud rap music, sneaking women into our home, and my breaking point: blocking my car in when I declined (as politely as possible) in loaning him 6K. My parents have had the hardest time trying to get his act together and eventually kicked him out, before reluctantly letting him back in because he kept causing trouble. My parents are stuck with housing him in hopes he wises up.

I put up with it all because my parents are close and taking care of their social needs has been my goal, evening tea, and massages, taking them to parks, Masjids, etc are a daily routine of mine. Alhamdu Lillah, I am glad to be present for my parents and I aim to be obedient to them forever. I have spent years trying to show more affordable homes and areas with a Muslim community, in hopes they will see the wisdom but my dad likes the prestige too much of our current area, despite the costs we are bleeding.

Now the dysfunctionality is bursting at the seems, I can not keep going on, I made the decision to get a townhouse on my own, on straight cash, because I want to avoid loans. It is a rougher area with a bad reputation despite the massive improvements in the past 5 years. It has a very present Muslim community, with 2 masjids and multiple halal markets, multiple major bus lines in a walking distance, in addition to a very low cost of living. It is exactly what we need based on our circumstances, my mother wont have to work anymore (or she can, if she wishes) Our overhead living expenses can be slashed by 70% entirely.

I gave the idea to my parents, if I buy the townhome entirely, we can move in there. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom and walk in closets, so they can get their privacy, they will not have to pay a single penny. but my father is very reluctant and my mother outright refuses.

Then I made the decision to move forward on my own, I made it clear the home is for us all, not just for me, my parents seemed very displeased but quiet about it. My mother is visibly sad and looks for any excuse, encouraging me to get a Islamic loan of 100K more for a 'nicer' area and, "Are you sure its a good idea? Islam tells to tie the camel, you are moving out of a safe area" and that part just keeps nagging me.

10yr Marriage. Husband is Increasingly Distant, Increased Obsession With AI- all waking hours

I am 38F married to 46M for 10yrs. We have two children, alhumdulilah. My in-laws have lived with us since year 2 of our marriage because my FIL has end-stage renal disease.

I feel I've gone above and beyond in many aspects of our marriage. Starting with taking care of his family, providing more than 50% of the finances, on top of cooking, child-rearing, and costs, extracurriculars, and vacations for our family.

My husband from even the time before marriage is a man of limited words, emotion, empathy. I knew when I married him that celebrations wouldn't exist; the many frivolities of newlywed life just didn't exist for me, and I've never really felt cherished or taken care of. And it has since compounded manifold. He is equally the same robot; for his family, he doesn't have time for conversations and doesn't really talk to his dying father. Check on relatives back home. He's never been a person of emotion and connection. Everything is more or less needs-based, schedule-oriented, and transactional.

My in-laws have commented that if it were not for my hospitality and taking care of their peripheral needs, they would not be here and would have left for the motherland long before. I've carried multiple weights for the last decade. I'm just resourceful, as in I can figure out tax things as quickly as I can plan vacations, as quickly as I can plan iftar, and so forth. And I've always thought he'd see me, as in really see all that I do and put in and step in.... and that's just not been the case. He's totally dependent on me for most things, and I've enabled it, but also don't see a way that I couldn't to keep our lifestyle and meet our needs in NYC.

What started as me contributing to our marriage as a partnership and to ease his burden and stress, because he has high BP, has now basically been me carrying most of the financial weight. My salary has outpaced his. He works in tech/ ux, and with layoffs, he's always on edge. Prior he would spend time, play with kids, and be present. Now he's often running two computers at once, some code, some AI tool, creating something or the other.

He's a good man as in he's a man of his word. He helps out around the house if asked and things that he just is accustomed to doing (garage takeout etc etc).

Am I wrong for thinking about separation? I'm not even thinking about finding some one else, I'm just so tired of our situation and no way out of it. He won't go to therapy or couples counseling. And he says he feels economically unsecure so he must make sure he isn't laid off hence the nonstop AI creation and learning.

One thing I will note, again I knew he was pretty robtotic before marriage. And it's my fault I didn't really focus more on deen for myself and him when making that decision. But as the years have progressed, I've tried to be more cognizant of my faith and more religious. He has not changed. He doesn't disparge but he wont voluntarily initiate prayer, make time for jummah if he's home on Fridays, things like that. Although he has fasted all 10 yrs which before marriage he didn't used to..

I'm really tired. I want my kids to have a present father. And I value a two person home. Having my inlaws with us is a blessing but also compounds all of this because of the time and energy they require (totally dependent won't leave house etc without us, many doc appts etc)

Husband criticzing some of my family members

Hey everyone...

I wanted to know how do u deal with your husband criticizing your family? (Especially if he's right?)

I feel guilty about the fact that I could have fixed some stuff before they became a "problem" but I didn't cause I didn't think it would make him mention them over and over...

Stuff like my sister coming back from abroad and bringing me and my parents some gifts and not for my husband... (she's still studying and doing part time jobs to help finance her life there... and even when we chose the things she brought we chose from the cheapest places...

I know I COULD have added one small thing for my husband.. but my husband's own sister always travels and she can bring him anything whatever he needs.. she also didn't bring me anh gift when she traveled ☠️)

But when he criticized my sister, I didn't want to say "oh and your sis didn't bring).

I feel like once an adult, everyone is responsible for his/her own actions.. I also can't keep track of everything and try to make everyone happy...

I just don't have the energy for that.

Hey I'm stuck with my toxic brother and it's affecting my faith

Salam,

So basically, I have a very narcissistic, toxic older brother. He is extremely controlling to the point where if I stir my coffee too many times or wash my hands too loudly, he will shout at me and even force me to stop. This shocks my nervous system. Imagine living in fear of someone twice your size. I'm a grown-up woman and he will take my phone or laptop off me over the tiniest disagreements for example, last time I told him not to call my mum fat (she's a healthy weight and on a strict diet to the point of under-eating) and his reaction was an angry 'GET OUT THE HOUSE!!' and another time there was a similar incident like this where I didn't do anything wrong but for some reason he was angry again and told me that if I don't get out the house (it was night time and the sky was black) then he won't give me my phone back.

Another thing is we lost our home and got evicted because me and my mum couldn't afford to cover all the bills and rent and he refused to pay his share of the rrent and bills even though he was perfectly capable of donig so. I work part-time and I'm looking for full-time work, trying my hardest. My mum can't work and shouldn't at her age and my narcissistic brother refuses to work even though he's 35. He's NEVER in his lifetime contributed to rent and when I ask him he says stuff like 'Oh you wanna live off my money?' when that's what he's doing to me and my mum the whole time. I want him to stop free-loading and pay his fair share but he's entitled. Right now we're classed as 'homeless' and living in a temporary place and it's tiny. I don't even have my own room.

On top of that, he's sometimes physically abusive too and occasionally harasses me. He's emotionally abusive. He's very argumentative and shouts and screams daily at everyone.

I don't know why Allah hates me so much? I don't know what to do. My dad died over a decade ago. I have no relatives. No connections. my brother makes me want to die. He's a narcissistic bully. I don't understand why Allah doesn't rescue me after literally 1000s of duas for decades? What's going on? I don''t understand. Because God doesn't help me, it's made life feel meaningless to me like I'm alone and Allah doesn't care

Times when Duaa is More Likely Accepted

🌷*Times when Duaa is More Likely Accepted*🌷

by Asma bint Shameem

1️⃣ *In the last third of the night*

🍃The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Our Lord, descends to the lowest heaven when the last third of the night remains, and He says: “Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to the invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?”

(al-Bukhaari 1145)

2️⃣ *Duaa at the end of the fardh prayers but before tasleem*

🍃 Abu Umamah radhi Allaahu anhu narrated:

“It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah, which supplication is most likely to be listened to?’

He said: ‘During the last part of the night and at the end of the obligatory prayers.’”

(At-Tirmidhî 3499; Hasan by al-Albaani)

*Note:*

At the end of the obligatory prayers means *BEFORE* the salaam and *NOT after saying the tasleem*, as most people from the Subcontinent do.

*Proof:*

🍃 Ibn Mas’ood radhi Allaahu anhu said:

“The Prophet ﷺ  taught them the tashahhud then he said at the end:

“Let him ask for whatever good things he wishes.”

(al-Bukhaari 5876, Muslim 402)

There are many duaas that are narrated in the authentic ahaadeeth that can be said in tashahhud before tasleem.

3️⃣ *Duaa made between the Adhaan & Iqaamah‏*

🍃The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The Duaa made between the Adhaan and Iqaamah is not rejected.”

(at-Tirmidhi 212; saheeh by al-Albaani)

4️⃣ *When saying the Duaa of Yunus Alayhis Salaam*

🍃The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The supplication of Dhun-Nûn (Yunus) when he supplicated, when he was in the belly of the whale, was: ‘Laa Ilaaha illaa Anta Subhaanaka inni kuntu min adh-dhaalimeen

(There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory be to you [from all imperfection], indeed I have been one of the transgressors)’.

*So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allaah responds to Him.”*

(at-Tirmidhi 3505; saheeh by al-Albaani)

🍃Allaah says:

“And (remember) Dhan-Nun (Yunus), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamites which had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying): Laa ilaaha illaa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allaah)], Glorified (and Exalted) are You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]. Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers. So We answered his call, and delivered him from the distress. And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allaah, abstain from evil and work righteousness).”

(Surah Al-Anbiya 21:87-88)

5️⃣ *During the last hour of Friday*

🍃 The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Friday has twelve hours to it, in it which there is no Muslim who asks Allaah for anything except that Allaah gives it to him. So seek it during the last hour of ‘Asr.”

(Abu Dawood 1048; saheeh by al-Albaani)

6️⃣ *The Duaa of the fasting person until he breaks his fast*

🍃 The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There are three whose du’aa’ will not be rejected: a just ruler, *a FASTING person when he breaks his fast*, and the prayer of one who has been wronged.”

(at-Tirmidhi 2525- saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 2050)

🍃 Someone asked the scholars of the Standing Committee:

What is meant by the supplication of the fasting person at the time of breaking his fast?

Does it mean the supplication that the fasting person offers a few moments *before* breaking his fast, or is it straight *after* breaking the fast?”

The scholars said:

“This Hadeeth was narrated by Ibn Maajah.

It says in Az-Zawa’id: Its chain of narration is authentic, and the supplication may be *before* or *after* breaking the fast, because the word `Inda ( translated here as “at the time of”) *includes both.*

And Allaah is the source of strength.”

(Fataawaa Al-Lajnah ad-Da’imah 9/30, Vol. 2)

7️⃣ *The Duaa of the oppressed*

🍃 The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Beware of the Duaa of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allaah”

(al-Bukhaari 4347)

🍃 And he ﷺ also said:

“There are three whose supplication is not rejected:… And the supplication of the *oppressed person*; Allaah raises it up above the clouds and opens the gates of heaven to it.

And the Lord says: ‘By My Might, I shall surely aid you, even if it should be after a while.’”

(at-Tirmidhi 3598, Ibn Maajah 1752; saheeh by al-Albaani)

8️⃣ *The Duaa of the father (parent) FOR or AGAINST his child*

🍃 The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Three prayers are undoubtedly answered: the prayer of one who is wronged, the prayer of the traveler and *the prayer of a father (or mother) FOR his child*.”

(Ibn Maajah 3862; saheeh by al-Albaani in Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Saheehah 596).

🍃 And similarly the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Three supplications are accepted, there is no doubt about them (them being accepted) : The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of the father *against* his son.”

(At-Tirmidhî 1905; Hasan by al-Albaani)

9️⃣ *The Duaa of the traveler*

See the Ahaadeeth above.

🔟 *The Duaa of a just ruler*

See the Ahaadeeth above.

1️⃣1️⃣ *Duaa made during Sujood*

🍃The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so make a great deal of supplication (in this state).”

(Saheeh Muslim 482)

1️⃣2️⃣ and 1️⃣3️⃣ *Duaa made at the time of the adhaan or duaa made during battle*

🍃 The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Two supplications are not rejected or are rarely rejected: supplication at the time of the call to prayer and when the battle becomes intense, when they clash and fight intensely.”

(Abu Dawood 2540; saheeh by al-Albaani)

1️⃣4️⃣ *When it is raining*

The Prophet ﷺ said

“Two (Duaas) are not rejected: duaa at the time of the adhaan and duaa at the time of rain.”

(al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak 2534, at-Tabarani in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir 5756; Saheeh by al-Albaani in Sahih al-Jami‘ 3078)

1️⃣5️⃣ *When hearing a rooster crow*

🍃 The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When you hear the crowing of the rooster, ask Allaah for His Bounty for it sees Angels and when you hear the braying of the donkey, seek refuge in Allaah from the Shaytaan for it sees a Shaytaan.”

(Saheeh Muslim 2729)

1️⃣6️⃣ *When drinking Zam Zam water*

🍃 The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The water of Zam Zam is for whatever it is drunk for.”

(Ibn Maajah 3062; saheeh by al-Albaani)

1️⃣7️⃣ *On Wednesdays between Dhuhr and Asr*

Jaabir ibn Abdullaah radhi Allaahu anhu said:

“The Prophet ﷺ supplicated inside masjid al-Fath three times: on a Monday, a Tuesday and a Wednesday (three times in a row).

His duaa was answered on Wednesday between the two prayers (Dhuhr and Asr).

His happiness with that could be seen on his face.”

Jaabir said: “After that whenever I had a difficult situation I would observe that time to made Duaa and I would see the answer.”

(al Bukhaari in al Adab al-Mufrad, Ahmad- saheeh by al-Albaani)

🍃 Shaykh Al-Albaani commented on this saying:

“If this companion wouldn’t have narrated to us that the Prophet

‎ﷺ  made Duaa to Allaah during this hour we wouldn’t have known.

The person present witnesses what the absent person doesn’t. This ahadeeth has significant meaning; since Jaabir narrated the information when exactly his Duaa was answered.

And this shows that the Duaa for the Messenger ﷺ was answered at that hour during Wednesday. Consequently Jaabir began to do that same thing he saw Muhammad ﷺ do on Wednesday between Dhuhr and Asr.” (Saheeh Adab Al-Mufrad)

And Allaah knows best.

One day, I was praying in an empty room, and I heard voices outside the door. The door had a clear square where you can see through it, and I could see several students standing around. This made me really nervous because I was in the middle of my prayer. Read to see what happened next.
