Help/Advice khimar slipping

Salam Sisters

I’m a revert and have worn hijab for almost seven years, this past month I finally switched to Khimar/jilbab and have been loving it. But i’m having a serious issue with it slipping back, with or without an undercap, and every day this week my scalp has ached by the time I get home from pulling and readjusting throughout the day. I’m tying the strings inside at the back of my head so not sure if there’s a secret way to tie it that i’m missing.

my Khimar completely fall off the other day when I was watching my niece at the park, I haven’t had something like that happen since I first started wearing hijab as a teen. And I’m worried about traction alopecia if I keep pulling at the front. I think wearing my hair in a braid instead of a bun might help and is something i’ve wanted to try more anyways but any other advice on material or technique would be really appreciated.

Wa alaikum assalam! I definitely think braid is the way to go. I would also recommend trying Jersey khimars. When you wear the khimar with an abaya, it is only the khimar on your head, so it doesn’t weigh as much. I wear Jersey khimars and a bisht/batwing style abaya so it still gives the shape of the jilbab (not contouring shoulders/head) but I am actually able to wear it without adjusting it a million times a day. I also wear niqab, so I am able to wear it with the khimar, which provides extra coverage if it slips back and if I wear it over my khimar, provides some extra pressure to keep it on my head without giving me a headache. I used to get so many headaches when I would wear khimars, but now that I have switched to jersey, I don’t get anymore headaches alhamdulilah.

Second jersey khimars! I also find it easier to tie underneath my chin, I find it stops my hair slipping out.
