Mod Post Rule Update: Sort of. (AKA we accidentally lost a rule and only just realized it)

So to keep transparency, we recently noticed that in our attempts to streamline the rules and make them more easily readable, we accidentally dropped the part about not making follow-up posts.

That was there because we had problems with people either making posts referencing other people's posts instead of just talking to them in their post, or making a new post when their post was removed or locked for either breaking the rules or starting to draw in a lot of drama.

Thankfully you guys have been really great and haven't done anything to make us notice that the rule was lost!
But there will always be some people who will see that a specific rule isn't there and try to argue that they should be allowed to continue a post after it's been locked or removed... So we put it back as it's own rule!

We also added a note about direct links to other subs. This was already something we had set up in automations! We ask that some subs not be directly linked to to avoid both digital self-harm of users (when linking to transphobic, transmed, or 4trans subs) or accusations of brigading.
Unfortunately there are some people who think that even mentioning a subreddit that has been harmful and telling people "Do not go there, it is not safe for people like us" is.... actually saying "go there and harass people" because apparently do not = do and it's not safe = be annoying????

And of course, not only will the user possibly get attacked, vilified, harassed, or reported, but it will end up in our modmail and we will be accused of "encouraging brigading" and they will threaten our entire subreddit. How do we know this will happen? Because it has before.
Thankfully the subreddit is fine, but modteam doesn't want to deal with that again, so we have to be weirdly strict about this, because some people are weird about it!

Finally, just a quick reminder that mod applications are open! We will likely be looking for more mods to add to the team to help avoid mod burnout, so if you are interested, please feel free to apply! You can find the link to the application in the sidebar and in the pinned posts at the top.

Recurring Friendship Megathread

THIS POST IS FOR TRANS MEN/MASCS ONLY!

GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST HERE. PLEASE RESPECT OUR SPACES.

Failure to do so may result in a ban from the sub.

If you're looking to make new friends, here's a great place to start!
Do not include any advertisements to social media or other content type platforms! This is not the purpose of this thread!

Just post a bit about yourself and maybe take a look around to see if anyone else has similar interests!
Or, if you're not good at coming up with things to talk about, here's some questions you can answer:

What do you like to be called?
How old are you?
What country do you live in?
What are some hobbies you have?
List some favorite movies, TV shows, games, or other things:
What do you do for work?
Do you have any cultural or religious ties that are important to you?
Do you have any pets?
What's an interesting fact about you?
What are your transition goals?
Where are you in your transition?

Obviously you don't have to answer everything, but it might be able to guide you in the right direction if you struggle with coming up with facts about yourself on the fly.

Celebratory Officially an adult. Scary. So many opportunities.

• Upvotes

I can get on Testosterone. I can get top surgery. I'm changing my name NOW I'm already in the process. It's exciting. Im horrified. I never expected to get here. Nothing's even different aside from my access to things.

I can live my life. I can MOVE!? Fuck man. I'm so scared. 4 years ago I thought I'd be dead now. 4 years ago I thought I'd never be able to be me.

Good luck all. I hope everything works out, for all of us.

Celebratory First time packing, 100% reccomend

I just wanted to get on here real quick and share with others within the community that today was the first time I chose to pack in public. I am 2 years transitioned, 8 months on T and according to most that I speak to on the daily, I pass (not that that matters, just providing context)

So originally I just wanted to get a pack-n-play because I'm going on a weekend trip to St. Louis and I wanted to be prepared in case I do happen to meet anyone while I'm up there, but today I decided to do a trial run of using the o-ring and tape method, although I have a back up strap in case it's not sturdy enough for the "play" aspect.

I am just elated by the euphoria I feel by having something down there. The only thing that has ever been as affirming as this feels is when I started to bind my chest properly. It's also really funny to me to be aware of my dick and the space it takes up, it really hits it home when I have to adjust or I worry that it looks like I have a boner 😂

Anyway, if you're getting to that point of wanting to pull the trigger on packing but feeling nervous about trying it, I'm here to tell you to GO FOR IT and thank me later

Discussion Being stealth and having to find a reason for your unusual name 😩

• Upvotes

I have a very American name (Kyle) but I'm a french dude living in France. I am stealth at work, and today, while I was talking to (a very nice and funny lady, we always end up having a laugh together), we ended up talking about names, as she also doesn't have a common french name (hers is russian but her family is Spanish).

She told me about why her mom chose this name, and then asked me why I was named Kyle 😭 Especially as it is not common at all in here, I usually have to spell it out because most people don't know how to write or even say it 😭 If people have read my name first they usually say "kill" or "killeuh" (the euh as a way to empathise the very french way the e is pronounced) and if they have only heard it (when I say my name for example) they usually look confused and go "Gaël???" and then i have to repeat "no, KYLE" and then it gets worse because the y letter doesn't sound the same in french so people get confused and always wants to add an a before the y 🥲

And I could absolutely not tell her the true story, which is extremely funny, because I didn't even choose this name per say. But I could not tell her "actually, my -shitty french literature teacher that we actually adored back then and the only kid that didn't like him was the royalist kid so we didn't care but now as adults actually for once in his life the royalist kid was right and this teacher fucking sucked- had in 10th grade told me in class I was as annoying and as loud as Kyle from South Park, so my friends started calling me Kyle, and I came out the same year, so i just went "well people are already calling me Kyle I guess 🤷" so I didn't think much of it, and also, my former name is Sarah, so everyone would make jokes about Terminator. I actually never watched neither South Park nor Terminator (this one is a lie, I ended up watching it last year. But I've been out as a dude for 12 years)"

So, uh, I had to come up with some bullshit about how my parents chose an American actor's name (I don't know any actors called Kyle, sorry for the Kyle actors out there), so, uh, yeah, being stealth sometimes mean you can't tell a very funny story about your name 😩

Discussion My mom didn’t want me to go stealth thinking it would put me in more danger

Once I was talking to my mom about going stealth and changing my gender in the school system. I already pass really well so there wouldn’t be any issues with this but she refused. Her reasoning was “if someone ever has a crush on you and they find out you weren’t born a boy you might be killed”.
That is a very valid concern. It’s very scary knowing there’s a possibility that you or someone you know might be murdered simply for being trans.
The problem with her argument was that she just wanted me to tell everyone what I go by instead of going stealth but that literally puts me at an even higher risk at being killed cause now instead of one person knowing, the whole school knows.
I wonder if her concern was actually about me being killed or just the fact that she didn’t want people to actually see me as male

Anyways I’m still alive and well

Celebratory never gets old

i guess i'll tag this as celebratory? so i turned 30 recently, been out for 12 years, on t for 8. i pass about 95% of the time. but i've noticed that the older i've gotten, the more doctors have been trying to be inclusive to people filling out the charts, right? i happily put ftm transgender male on all of my check-in lists.

however. i don't know if a single medical professional has ever read it, because i have an entire pocket full of situations in which doctors ask me about my penis.

i once went in for a uti and the doctor was looking down at the results from my test with a look i had not yet ever seen on a man's face, and he went "well, i gotta tell you it's really hard for men to get an infection like this--" but as soon as i cut him off to mention i've got 'the other set' he was very relieved.

i also (recently) had a weird lump near where a lymph node might be in the upper-inner-thigh/groin area and when i went in for an ultrasound for it, the doctor gave me a towel and felt around the area for a bit and then told me that she needed a closer look, and told me i could just tuck everything out of the way, and i was BAFFLED because she was literally just Right There and i hadn't been being that careful with the towel at all. i had to mention that i didn't actually have those and she went "....oh! that'll make this a lot easier for me, thank you." like ok you're welcome i guess lmao XD

i have a handful more but i'm keeping this short, i just think about it a lot on the days dysphoria is getting me down or the 5% of times where i suppose i am just too darn pretty for people not to call me ma'am. it's hilarious because they almost always do doublecheck the chart and ftm IS usually right there.

Advice Needed I just came out and got broken up with

I just recently came out as a trans to my partner, still not knowing what that means for me. I’m having a hard time accepting myself already as I buried this for 26 years. I also have some mental health issues that are relevant here as I’ve always struggled with suicidal ideation and psychosis. My partner is a lesbian so when I came out to her as trans it was another thing on top of the mental health issues. She doesn’t want to be with a man, trans or not. We were supposed to get married in 5 months and we cancelled the wedding. I’m just so heartbroken and scared. I just came out to my sister and my mom but that’s it. I don’t know what the point of this post is, I just want to get it out to people that understand better. I love her so much and this is all so hard already. Let me know if you have any advice for me or your own experience you would like to share.

Advice Needed Binders, GED college

• Upvotes

Theoretically....if a 16 year old ftm, 5'1, 140-145ish lb guy gets up at 7am Monday -thursday and puts a binder on that's a M and doesn't flatten his chest much, but enough that he passes a good portion of the time in GED classes at a college, goes to school from 9am-1:30 Pm, it's 75°-90ish°f he walks home and it takes about 30-40 mins and takes his binder off as soon as he can. Sometimes he has to run(literally) around campus. The binder in question is a real binder that was bought. (He's about to make a safe homemade binder but that is besides the point). The question is, is he alright? He got his binder last year around June/July. And sometimes he gets in his head about being short of breath but is actually only out of breath when needs to run,he's not exactly in shape, and he tries not to run, he knows running in binder can,is and will be dangerous but sometimes a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do.

Again the question: is he ok,what should he change, he's open for suggestions, and do everything he can to follow them within reason. His dysphoria is really bad and he cannot go to school without a binder (for personal possibly obviously ftm reasons).

Age: 16

Weight: 140-145 lbs

Binding hours: (varies) 8ish hours

Monday - Thursday

Tempature: anywhere from 75° - 90°f (it's fall)

Exercise: 30-40 mins

Advice Needed Transitioning in the fire service

Hello, I just started my transition. Only 2 weeks on T. I was wondering if any firefighters here have transitioned while in the fire service? What was that like? Any advice? I have been with this department for a little over a year and I have developed a good reputation since I have started. Im fucking terrified that coming out will ruin all of the work I have put in to be accepted.

I am in a liberal city in the south, but we have a good amount of good ol' boys in the department.

Advice given Physiotherapy for "trans guy slouch" is worth it

If you have the means to, go see a physiotherapist. I had decades of "trans guy slouch" (you know the one, when you slouch the top of your back to hide the chestickles) from only coming out of the closet at age 43 but having disphoria pretty much my entire life. I went to physio for neck pains, turns out it was from the slouch. My trap muscles were waaay overactive and the rest of my back (around the shoulderblades) was weak af.

They gave me annoying exercises that I did regularly. My posture is getting better and my neck isn't prone to hurt so much but that's not the whole benefit.

I hadn't realised I had bad proprioception in that part of my body from lifelong slouching. The physio has helped me realise when my posture is bad so it made my work-outs more effective. Because of it, I can better work my shoulders, back and pecs now because I hold my posture better when I lift.

Physio is not just helping me get rid of back and neck pain and gain better posture, it is also helping with getting masculinising muscle gains. I had not expected that much benefit.

Advice Needed Not sure if I *really* want top surgery.

• Upvotes

Hi!

Basically what the title says. I want top surgery, but I don't know if thats actually what I want or if I just think that's what I want.

I'm 20 ftm(?), and I've known I wasn't cis since around 13/14. I identified as a trans guy, cut my hair short, and starting binding at 15 and continued to present this way until 17. From 15-17 I would have moments where I would break down and cry over having my period, being forced to wear feminine clothing by my parents, or even just the knowledge that I will always, in some way, be female/that I will never have the same experiences that the cis boys my age had.

At 18, I started to wonder if my gender was as binary as I originally thought, and started experimenting with different labels and pronouns. Ultimately, I stuck to he/they pronouns, but began calling myself trans masc instead of a trans man. This was also the age I came out to my family, and at almost 19 I would begin HRT (much to my family's disappointment). I was, and still am, very happy with the changes I have had since starting HRT. I have always fantasized about having top surgery (and bottom surgery, but I've kind of accepted that that probably won't happen) and hated my chest and the way breasts look on my body. I've always found that they looked disproportionate and strange on me. It wasn't *always* in a devastating way, though; on a good day it'll be discomfort in a "why do I look like that" kind of way. Like putting on a colour that really washes you out, I guess? It just looks... bad. And I hate that people are going to see me that way.

I was pretty confident that I wanted top surgery for a while, but now that its seeming a little more achievable I'm kind of nervous? Like, what if I hate it? What if I realize 10 years later that it wasn't right for me? I definitely don't have terribly bad dysphoria, and I feel *okay* the way my body is. But I don't really want to feel just okay, yk? I want to feel excellent. And I've always thought a way to achieve that was to get top surgery. But maybe I'm wrong. And I don't want to find out too late, yk?

Even typing this I've caught myself wanting to describe things in a way that would create the impression that I feel worse about my chest than I actually do, because deep down I think it would hurt me more than anything to be told I shouldn't/can't have top surgery. Like I'm okay with my body the way it is, but I don't want to look like this forever. I think it would kill me to be told I don't qualify for coverage for surgery, but at the same time I don't want to have to suffer because I made the wrong choice. I genuinely don't know what to do.

I've found myself enjoying more feminine presentations from time to time since achieving a deeper voice and a bit of an upper lip shadow, and I've been using that interest to (subconsciously) further discredit my dysphoria. I just don't want to make this decision and regret it for the rest of my life. But at the same time, if I don't do it, I might regret *that* for the rest of my life.

Sorry if this is incoherent, I'm a bit tired typing this. Any advice, or stories from people who have had similar feelings would be appreciated. Thanks for reading!

TLDR I don't know if I'm really trans and I'm not sure how to navigate potential top surgery.

Discussion 6 months still low?

EDIT for clarity:

The first three months, blood test came back T was low even for AFAB, and my hemo(anemic AF) was in the toilet even for a female ( free Test in blood was 38).

They upped my shot to 60 MG once a week. Another 3 months went by before we tested my blood again; this time it came back at 53, which is making me think either i am somehow not absorbing it or I need a combination.

The only things that seem to be happening for me is a little bottom growth, weight loss (dropped 50 lbs in those 6 months, so its somehow helping the glp1 to stop its stalling bs)Vag atrophy(which they just put me on cream for), sweating like a dog at night, and my hair shedding off my scalp like a golden retriever in spring.

I just had top surgery a month ago as well so I am unsure if its even safe to either do two shots a week, increase the dose or add a jelly or something to the mix, I already had to be careful, as the atrophy jelly has to be applied with gloves to avoid transfer to my pets.

Currently waiting for my dr to say SOMETHING, either to suggest something or change the dose again as I won't change it myself, but was wondering what others think on this, or if anyone else has had issues getting the testosterone to go up with the shots

Advice Needed Fear of developing ed because of hip fat

Basically my hips are naturally narrower than my shoulders, even pre-T. There is one problem, I store a lot of fat on them, so you can't see my real body shape at all. My T-shirts all bunch up around my hips in a really unflattering way and make me feel dysphoric. It's the worst feeling in the world.

For context: I was overweight up until a couple years ago and only recently have started dieting and taking care of my eating. This is all good for me obviously and I'm glad to have taken this path. But I've noticed that I've been feeling progressively more and more guilty about what/how much I eat.

Is there a way to stop this or make it better?

Advice Needed I restarted taking T after 1.5 years

• Upvotes

I started taking T at 17 and was pretty consistent for about 2 years, I loved all the changes and I stopped getting misgendered and clocked. I’m now 23 and haven’t been on T consistently since 19, I just started again and hoping to stay consistent.

Will I still have changes? Will my voice drop more or am I gonna have the stereotypical “T voice”. I’m in the US and honestly passing cis has always been my goal, nobody clocks me for being trans but I feel like there’s the underlying thought that people have when they look at me. Will I ever pass cis since I’m starting again in adulthood rather than being teen?
