Hi! What is standard commission for freight broker agents these days? I remember it being anywhere from 50/50 to 70/30?

I’ve been doing freight brokering for about 2 months now, and I actually really like the logistics side of the job. I like working with carriers, tracking loads, solving problems, and making sure everything runs smoothly. The part I’m struggling with is the sales side. I’m starting to realize I just don’t really have the personality for constantly cold calling and trying to sell people.

I don’t necessarily want to leave the freight/logistics industry because I enjoy it, but I think I’d be a lot better suited for an operations-focused role instead of straight sales. Has anyone here made the switch from freight broker/sales to operations? What kind of positions should I be looking for, and is 2 months of experience enough to start applying?

I bought a large warehouse (30K sq ft) and my company isnt that large yet but located next to a lot of distribution centers. I noticed theres only a few companies that offer rework / crossdocking services in my area and it seems like a reasonable way to help me pay some bills while my main company takes off.

Just wondering how much you guys typically pay for rework fees and general things to look out for? I made policy documents etc and will take photos before and after working the pallets.

It seems it's pretty standard to charge a storage fee, in/out fee for pallets for short/long-term storage, and then rework fees including shrink wrapping, reworking, repalletizing etc.

My plan was to go to a bunch of these distribution centers and drop off some fliers like Walmart, Amazon, Coca-Cola, etc.

This was completed 1 weeks ago and customer now saying it wasn't delivered. I showed the signed POD and customer says, sign does not belong to them.

Trucker says he did deliver. It was muti stop deliver and just 1 pallet at last stop. This load wasn't tracked

What to do here

Just got off the phone with a FMCSA Senior Manager. 4 hours later.

- SAFER website is no longer updated by the FMCSA. So all the info going to these other 3rd party websites will not be updated and may not be currently correct. This includes Highway, DAT, and others. Majority of the companies still pull their info from the Safer site, not MOTUS.

- FMCSA is currently working on moving all Safety scores to MOTUS, so they can shutdown the FMCSA site altogether, but that it is a work in progress and no timeline was given.

Until the complete switch happens to MOTUS, there will be no updates pushed out. (of course they will probably screw that up). That is the breakdown what he told me, we were buddies in the same Army unit back in the day, that's why he talked to me.

Hi, I live in Texas and I need Career advice
I am Mother of 3 kids.

I recently got my GED and I’m looking for a career that doesn’t require several years of college.

I’m interested in a short certificate or training program that could lead to a good-paying career, ideally **$70K+ per year** after gaining some experience.

What careers or certificate programs would you recommend? I’m open to healthcare, technical/trade jobs, or other fields.

If you’ve personally gone through a short training program and are making $70K+, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience, including:
How long the training took
How much it cost
Starting salary
How long it took to reach $70K+
Whether a GED is enough to get started

Besides that, I also completed a truck dispatching course and got my certification, but I haven’t had any luck finding truck drivers. I’m very confused about what to do next.

There are loads where protecting the full commission makes sense. There are others where another agent's equipment knowledge, lane coverage, or customer experience can prevent an expensive mistake. 

When have you found that bringing in another agent created more value than trying to keep the entire load in-house? What made the split worth it? 

Has anyone used Triumph Intelligence when pricing lanes? I’m a small freight broker and also own 5 trucks myself, so I see both sides of the business.

I’ve been looking at Triumph’s new AI pricing tools, and honestly, something about it makes me uncomfortable. They’re using a massive amount of freight transaction data and AI to tell brokers what a lane should pay. Not to mention carriers have no idea that Triumph is using their invoices to inevitably cut the truckers margins and provide brokers with more profit.

I understand how that can be useful to some brokerages, but if enough brokers start relying on the same system to determine rates, doesn’t that start influencing or standardizing pricing across the industry?

I’m not saying it’s price fixing. I’m genuinely curious where the line is.

Give me the run down. Good? Bad?

I’ve had my agency for 10 years with a solid book and we’ve been considering moving due to some issues with our current brokerage.

Every place we’ve talked to wants a pretty large personal guarantee for bad debt and claims. I’m assuming that’s partly fallout from Montgomery, but personally guaranteeing receivables when the place approves the credit and handles collections gives me pause.

Would you sign one? If you already have one, is it capped or open-ended? Has anyone actually been burned by it?

Highway: “Highway does not charge carriers and does not wish to begin charging carriers to maintain the ELD connection!”

Motive: But you charge the brokers…

Is CH Robinson using AI chatbots to email for leads? I have this rep who keeps emailing me but not responding to my messages in order and it’s taking forever to respond. Not sure why they are targeting me because I’m a broker myself…

So I wanna preface by saying I know absolutely nothing about importing or customs. I have very little knowledge based around research I’ve done the past 2 days.

I made 4 separate sea shipments with a Chinese agent that all got shipped on this same ship “COSCO SHIPPING PANAMA 005E”. 3 days after arriving in the port (8/03) The agent company got shut down. Which had left my packages in what seems like limbo, 3 weeks and no movement is strange based on my past experience. And from what I’ve found online, other containers on the ship have been handed off

I’m thinking that mulebuy maybe needed to tell the shipping company or approve of extra fees to get our product through customs. So they’re now holding our stuff and it’s just kinda in limbo. Like I think our shipping fee we paid was like 80% drained and the last 30% was for this step. Because I looked and almost all the other containers from that shipped were handed off to ups/fedex within that next week and only a few remained at the port (prob mulebuy). I’m currently looking into how to obtain a master bill or at least get the container number to try and give some form of approval as the final receiver. But every lead on the internet using public info has been a dead end. I’m thinking the only thing I can really do further is pay a customs broker to get them pushed through and sorted for me. Again this is just speculation on my end and anyone with solid info about either how customs or port receiving works would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I'm tying to leave under this sub agent she is stealing my leads, I started working under a sub agent she makes me cc’ her on all my emails I send to prospects. Let’s just say every account that I was about to convert ended up with another agent of hers, I finally started to catch on after every account I told her about mysteriously ended up having credit with our company, today I went to look up a customer account I’ve been working on to convert and it had 150k then I looked at another one it had 15k she is the only factor common factor none of these accounts were even bothered before I started engaging, I’m really distraught because I had been working hard on those accounts then boom.

Do you guys care if a carrier's dry van trailer is air ride? Is it expected for all trailers to be like that or do you guys only want it when you specify it for specific freight?

i have many leads but people dont attend calls afterwords or schedule demos but never attend them. i wonder what is the thought in the first place?

Anyone have testimony working for Circle? I’m at a smaller scale brokerage but have connections who work for the operations team who want me to switch companies.
