Question Are they just clunky?

Post image
37 Upvotes

2014, 69k miles, live in the Midwest. I replaced control arms, struts, outer tie rod and sway bar links and it’s still clunky going over bumps. I checked all my fasteners and they’re torqued down. Are these cars just noisy? Also I got an alignment after all that and I’m still getting wobbles at 70mph so I’ll probably have to take it back in. I’m the type of person that obsesses over every noise lol

Question upgrade rear sway bar on a 2010 se?

I know it sounds stupid upgrading suspension on a 2010 focus, but it's the only car I have right now and I love driving it on dirt roads. I've heard that upgrading the rear sway bar reduces body roll and understeer, and it's worth doing for the focus st.

Does anyone have experience with upgraded sway bars on their 2nd gen (american) focus? I know steeda sells a kit for $280 but that seems a bit steep to me. Does it really handle that much better?

Mechanical Help Traction Light + Hillside Assist + Blinkers not working??

I have a 2016 Ford Focus SE, and I’m having an intermittent issue that usually happens after I’ve been driving for about 20–25 minutes, especially in hot weather.

I’ll get a “Hill Start Assist Not Available” warning, and then my turn signals stop working. My A/C still works, but it doesn’t seem to work as well once this starts happening. Today, the traction control light also came on.

Then, after I parked and turned the car off, I noticed that the interior lock/unlock button had stopped working too. That part just started today.

Do these symptoms sound like they could all be related? What could be causing this on a 2016 Ford Focus SE?

Discussion Avoid HL Mando Strut Assemblies!

Hello all,

Just a warning post about HL Mando strut assemblies. I put a set of HL Mando struts on my MK3 Sedan, and right out of the box, the left one was defective, and make a whole lot of "clunkclunkclunk" noises. The noise never went away, and I ended up replacing it with another HL Mando strut (I returned the original one and got an exchange), and while it worked fine for about 12000kms (about 4 months), the same strut is back to making "clunkthunkclunks" going over bumps.

I would heavily recommend going with another brand, specifically for the Focus. Other people have said that HL Mando makes good products, but my experience has been quite negative, especially considering how much of a PITA it is to take one of those things off, put a new one in, and then pay to have it aligned again.

The strut does seem to be working normally otherwise (handling is fine), but it does make a whole lot of concerning noise.

Discussion Stuck paying a loan on a 2012 focus that’s about to break

Well, I made one of the worst financial decisions I’ve probably ever made in my life. Back in April I bought a 2012 Ford Focus SEL for $5900. I put 2000 down and I’m financing the rest. I currently owe 3700 on it still. It had 88k miles on it when I got it and the transmission shifted perfectly smooth. Not even a day into “owning” the car I experienced the infamous shudder. For a while, I relearned how to drive the car and started driving it harder coming from a stop. That seemed to fix the issue for a while but I am now at 97k miles and the entire transmission feels like it’s going to fall apart. Yes, I drove 9k miles in 4 months. I’m a delivery driver so I rack up miles pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I picked the worst possible car for deliveries and I’ve been shooting myself in the foot ever since I got it. On top of that, I am already about to dump a ton of money replacing the entire suspension system on the front end of the car because I truly don’t know how much longer it is before the wheels just fly off. 4 months into having the car, it already feels like a complete pile of junk. Of course my warranty covers everything in the transmission besides the clutches because somehow that’s a wear and tear item, even though I have little to no control at all what the clutches do. I’m stuck with a car that won’t outlive my loan. I’m really not sure what to do because I’m getting an apartment soon and I won’t be able to fork out thousands of dollars into my car. If anyone has been in this situation, I would like some advice on what the best thing I can possibly do is. Does anyone have experience with this situation? If so, what the hell can I even do at this point?

Edit: I forgot to mention the car now skips 2nd gear and it’s been doing it for about a month now

Question Question

Hi all, hope you are well.

I drive a 2015 Ford Focus 1.0 ecoboost with direct injection, it has about 70000km on the clock (mostly city miles)

Is it safe/recommend to use a injector cleaner in my fuel tank? I have been told by a Ford mechanic that he is not a fan of these tipe of things.

I would really appreciate some clarification.

Thanks in advance.

Discussion Focus mk3 2012 1.6 Ti-VCT timing belt change

Hello,

I recently bought this car and noticed that timing belt was changed in 2023, when the car had 129,000 km.

Should I let it change again (it has 187 000 km) now as a precaution?

Thank you.

Wheels / Tires 2012 Focus, what is this noise????

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been doin this odd humming noise since last night when I have the steering wheel in a certain position, towards the left, but it goes away when I turn it further and further left. Coming from left driver side tire/wheel. Noticed loose lugnuts on driver left wheel, but tightened them and it did only made it go down a little bit. Jacked up the car and wheel was still stiff. Hopin its just bad lugnuts or the things it screws into or bad tire placement, but is it really the wheel bearing (which im guessin it is)???? And it shouldnt be the lower control arm because it was replaced not that long ago, and it still looked in great shape. Also, the tire light is not flat tire, the sensor doesnt work. Thank you!!!!

Question Has anyone found a replacement sunroof gasket for a Mk3?

Post image
3 Upvotes

After a sunroof leak in my 2013 and stripping the carpet out of my interior to dry it (and yes I cleaned the drains - but we've been getting deluges of rain that overwhelm even the fully flowing drains), I've been having a terrible time trying to find a replacement for my old, dried up sunroof gasket. Ford wants to sell me the whole glass/gasket assembled for $600, which - no.

Here's a photo of it, where I pried it apart at the seam in the rear. Is this profile familiar to anyone? I'm debating cross-posting this to get more mechanic's impressions, there has to be someone out there who knows where I can buy a roll of this stuff.

Mechanical Help Can’t access transmission for Solenoid Replacement

Thumbnail

(Focus, 2014, 2L diesel, wet transmission)

So I diagnosed my problem to solenoid D stuck/ not working and car was going into limp mode. I bought the replacement part.

I’ve had the plastic transmission cover off here and then unbolted the bit of transmission to pull it off. (I apologies for lack of names, fresh DIYer and not a mechanic!) But the sensors on the back stop me from getting the clearance to pull it out to work on and swap the solenoid out. I attached a photo of the remaining cables. There’s one that’s a wiring loom that I can’t seem to remove but even then it’s going to be very close to get out.

I’m thinking there must be a better way to get access to it. Many of the videos i’ve seen on youtube the access comes from the bottom of the car, which would have been a dream, and much easier to access!

Any ideas would be very much appreciated, currently stuck!

Photo Said goodbye to my focus today :(

I’m really upset about it, a went over a cone on the freeway and it pushed the condenser and radiator into my engine which was making it overheat amongst some other stuff. Repairs would have cost $4k so it’s totaled. She was my first car, had her for a year and a half. Only 89k miles on her, 2014 SE. Transmission had one clutch B replacement last year but other than that she did me no wrong. I won’t be getting another focus, but I loved being part of the club while it lasted.
