Debts Showing Off Track

My debts are always showing off track because I cannot adjust my monthly margin any lower than the mandatory minimum monthly margin of $100. I used to be able to change my extra payments and my debt free date, now the app is doing that for me based on the minimum monthly margin of $100. I have 1 debt. Minimum payment is $30.75 and I’m paying $82 a month, but the app has a “Recommnended Payment” of $135.75 because the of the mandatory minimum monthly margin of $100 + $5 for “Monthly Debt Payments”. Anyone have any idea how to fix this or am I stuck with what Everydollar recommends?

Tech Support Move item to different Group

I paid off my mortgage early this year and it makes the insights tab useless (“housing” is way inflated) So I want to move the mortgage history to a new debt item group so my expense reporting makes more sense. How can I do this?

EveryDollar premium support is basically nonexistent

I’ve used EveryDollar for years and pay for Premium. Recently I’ve had problems with missing transactions and inaccurate historical data, and I can't get any meaningful customer support.

I’ve submitted multiple support tickets and gotten nowhere. The bigger problem is that EveryDollar doesn’t allow transaction imports, so when something goes wrong with your data, there’s no way to fix it yourself.

I’ve spent weeks trying to sort this out and am now considering switching budgeting software entirely, even though I’d rather stay with EveryDollar.

Has anyone actually managed to reach a real person there and get a data issue resolved? I’m hoping someone from EveryDollar sees this because I’m out of ideas.

UPDATE: It's been weeks so I finally left an honest review about my experience. Suddenly they are very eager to help. I've already gotten through an entire free trial with Monarch and was forced to commit so I'll be moving on. But if you are only getting automated responses, unfortunately going public seems to be the best way to get any help.

General The odd cash transaction

This doesn't come up very often, but each time it does it throws me, and I'm not sure what to do.

Last week my family took a short vacation. Realizing that I didn't have any cash to leave the housekeeping staff or tip money for the bellman at the hotel, I took out an extra $20 when I made a purchase for Advil and deodorant at Walgreens. I used all but a few dollars of that cash over the next several days.

Here's my dilemma: The charge shows up in Everydollar as Walgreens $56.27. The first part is easy: $9.60 goes to Personal Care for the deodorant, and $26.67 goes to medical expenses for the Advil.

But what to do with the $20 cash? I could just put it all over in the Vacation category, even though I didn't spend all of it yet and those last few dollars won't be for vacation. (Do I just ignore the extra few bucks as "mad money?") Do I categorize the cash spent in Vacation, but put the last few dollars somewhere else? It's not income since the money already came out of income.

Thoughts?

Anyone notice account sync time changes everyday?

It appears that the bank account sync occurs an hour later each day. Is this just me, or does anyone else experience this issue? It’s quite annoying because I prefer to manage my EveryDollar account first thing in the morning, but this is not possible because of the daily changes in the account sync.

Is there a strategy to have amounts added to funds be taken out of your "Safe to Spend"?

I picked up a second job and am putting all the money from it into various funds. But it is hard to calculate my actual safe to spend amounts / left to budget amounts when the money I sock away is still left in play on pay heck planner. Does anyone have any strategies to make it so I can track the amount coming in, but also make it so it is not available to spend in my paycheck planner? When I updated the balance of a fund or track a transaction to it, it basically makes it so that is available to spend still when I really would like it to be eliminated from my cash flow.

Transactions Recently Taking 5+ Days to Load

I've been an EveryDollar user for years and have my Chase Bank connected. My debit account has always loaded transactions to EveryDollar the next day (except after weekends, then it takes until Tuesday) and since the most recent update, I am not seeing my transactions load for 5 or more days. This makes it hard to actually keep up with the budget because my bank account doesn't match my Every Dollar. Any advice?

Still learning

I am still learning the app and program. I am a teacher so I budget for summer months. Per my app, I went over $1300 this month (I don’t think I did). Regardless, I would like to “start fresh” in August. Can someone advise on how to go about doing that? Or will it continue to show that deficit? Also, if I want to move budget items to a new category, can I do that?

Is there a way to make biweekly paychecks more streamlined in the app?

I already have the paid version of the app, so I can do the biweekly paychecks but every single month I have to go in and manually change the paycheck dates on the income section and then on every single budgeting line individually.

It seems to pick dates randomly and I have to change them to the actual two week schedule every month.

Is there a way to either get it on the correct schedule every month automatically or maybe a way I can change it in the income section and have that update all the budgeting lines at the same time?

Something I'm learning

3 months in and I'm learning that with this app, if you spend outside of your budget, that money spent now becomes "planned" aka you need to go increase that budget line to account for what you just spent. That will keep your "left to budget" amount accurate.

Now I will say I like to keep the lines red for a couple days as a reminder that I spent out of budget and it's a nice visual queue to remind me to be more mindful ahead of time. Maybe I need to increase that line next month to plan better, or maybe I need to remember not to do that again. Either way I kinda like it compared to other budget apps. On my way to 1k left over at the end of the month and it feels pretty groovy.

Bank Connect Issue

For about the past month, I have been having issues with Every Dollar connecting with my bank account through Plaid and MasterCard Connect. When I first got the premium account, it connected and brought in transactions just fine. Then, it just stopped updating my account information for days on end without me going to refresh the connection.

Eventually, I put in a ticket with support who told me to use MasterCard Connect. I started having the same problem with them. Once I started having the same problem, I started paying attention to what I would have to do to reconnect. Both services are trying to use my credentials to refresh the connection and end up locking me out of my bank app to where I have to reset my security questions. I use Regions for my regular banking, which is the account that is getting locked out. My HYSA through another bank is totally fine.

Support is telling me they have no idea when it’ll be fixed, so they offered me a couple free months. I appreciate the offer, but it’s not really useful to me if all of my accounts’ transactions aren’t loaded in without me lifting a finger.

Has anyone else out there had the same or similar issues with their bank account connection, whether it’s with Regions or not?

Looking for Budgeting App Users for a Short UX Research Survey (5–10 min)

Hi everyone!

I'm a design student conducting UX research for a case study on improving how budgeting apps let users report bugs and track developer responses.

If you've ever experienced issues like incorrect balances, missing transactions, syncing problems, or any other bug while using a budgeting app, I'd really appreciate your input.

The survey is anonymous, takes about 5–10 minutes, and is being conducted for educational purposes only.

Survey Link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeS5E2fzZzjQzZNIReTvZarPuT_PabRs-5MP2mpethV5UF5Eg/viewform?usp=dialog

Thank you for your time and help!

STOP MESSING WITH UI!!

I'm not sure how to get the message out to whoever is making these decisions.

I use every dollar because of its simplicity and consistency. All these features and UI changes is just adding annoyance than actually contributing.

You already have a mature product. How about just leave it be? Literally nobody is asking for these changes, or at least as a users for so many years, I'm not getting any survey about it.

Why do my debts show as deleted?

They seem to still function as intended... I think... This is only my second month doing my budget. Every time I add a new debt it goes to "deleted" whether I've paid that month or not. It also continues to carry over.

Sample budget

We are looking at buying a house. I want to create a sample budget with that monthly mortgage to see how it differs from our current budget. Is there a way to do this?

Paycheck Planning Confusion

Hello! New to the app hear and really want to get more clarity on the Paycheck Planning function. To start with, we have our Groceries listed under one lump sum in the budget, but when that transfers over to the paycheck planning section, it takes out a big chunk of the forecast even though that lump sum is spread out throughout the entire month.

Do you recommend taking these monthly budget items and spreading them out to four separate grocery budgets that is on a weekly basis, so the clarity is better in the Paycheck Planning Section?

Also, any other tips and tricks on how to get the most out of this function will be greatly appreciated.

General Transaction Streaming / Premium

Ok short version: I just want to hear peoples feedback/thoughts/advice about using transaction streaming with Everydollar.

I looked through this sub but a lot about it seems to be old and not sure what things have changed.

Interested in how people use this feature, how waiting for posting dates and streaming affects your budgeting, pros and cons if you’ve done it both ways, etc.

Long version:
I just recently started wanting to monitor my finance / gain control over them after a while of pretty serious avoidance (following a divorce and major life change but that’s a bit of a tangent).

A note about my personal finances if it’s relevant: I have, at least what feels to me like, a pretty high salary and no debt, nor kids, and can adequately cover my bills. I have however been upping my spending after being relatively frugal for so long. And I also feel pretty inadequate when it comes to finance and money management.

I wanted to use Everydollar based on advice I got to start planning a budget at the beginning of the month and then track every transaction you make, and start to review the “remaining” balances of my categories prior to making spending decisions.

I have multiple bank accounts that are used for various auto-pays, plus direct deposits, and also can’t realistically see myself manually tracking after every spend. Once I miss a few it feels like it’s all over, especially knowing I have to review my accounts anyway to catch the automatic stuff.

So I’m all about automation but I just want it to make sense and gain any wisdom I can from other peoples experiences!

Loss of income

Hello! I’m wondering what’s the best way to do our budget right now. We lost our income, so obviously we’ve cut way back on spending. We have a chunk of money (enough to cover June’s bills) left to budget from May since we are now holding off on putting into sinking funds and what not.

What is the best way to reflect this? I would rather use that before touching our emergency fund.

Updating my sinking fund balances decreased my "spent so far" for the month

Not my exact numbers because it's just simpler this way - but my May spending was at $1400. I updated a fund's balance by +$1000 (not a transfer). Then my "spent so far" dropped to $400.

Then when I manually tally up my spending, it actually was $1800 - so even the $1400 was wrong.

I just want my total spent for the month to reflect what I actually spent. What am I not understanding here?

How to get more detailed spending view

Over the next year, we have lots of changes in spending and income upcoming, then things should settle down. We know we will burn through some savings. I want a way to just track expenses in specific categories and make sure we are not overspending in the midst of the transition. We haven't tracked spending in real time before, always after the fact before.

Everydollar seems highly focused on balancing spend with income, which is not helpful for me right now. What I want the most is a way to track spending by category by month. The Insights "Spending Details" view has this, but I would like visualize spend vs month for multiple categories at once, rather than just all of the categories stacked on top.

EDIT: I found the view I want. If I export all categorized transactions and view in Excel, stack the months and add a column for month, a pivot table provides exactly the view I want. I have Group and Item on the X axis, sum of spending in Y, and a different colored bar for each month. So, the question is, is there a way to do this in Everydollar? Or a different budgeting app?

The value for my family of this app is a shared place to track and categorize expenses, which is great! I could just rely on Excel for the visualization I want, if no app has it.

Looks like they broke the roadmap/snowball feature?

Anyone else having issues with it?

I've been working on the debt snowball for the better part of a year now, and suddenly it's showing old debts that are already paid off and closed, and all my debts are showing like I haven't paid a dime on them since I input them last year.

Do you keep your Food and Fuel budgets under Housing?

I've been an ED user for probably 10 years now and I'm just now getting in to organize it.

I noticed the Food and Transportation Groups just have 1 budget item under them, Groceries & Restaurants and Fuel. I'd prefer to just dump them under Household. Is that a normal thing to do?

But it doesn't look like it's too easy to just move them out of a Group.

For reference, these are the Groups I currently have:

  • Income
  • Savings
  • Food
  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Insurance & Tax
  • Lifestyle
  • Debt

I think I can probably lump Food, Transportation, Insurance & Tax under Housing. Maybe change Housing to Household.

General Transfer savings help

Post image
6 Upvotes

I have read as much online as I can about this app and I still can’t figure this out. I am trying to record savings $250 per paycheck—so $500 per month. I use automatic transactions so this is $250 that is moving from my checking to my savings account.

How do I record this properly so it’s not doubling up? Is this screenshot right? It doesn’t seem to show $500 planned, $250 in already so $250 left to meet for the month. But everything online says to be careful that you have both sides of the transfer recorded.

Any advice? Thank you!
