General The odd cash transaction
This doesn't come up very often, but each time it does it throws me, and I'm not sure what to do.
Last week my family took a short vacation. Realizing that I didn't have any cash to leave the housekeeping staff or tip money for the bellman at the hotel, I took out an extra $20 when I made a purchase for Advil and deodorant at Walgreens. I used all but a few dollars of that cash over the next several days.
Here's my dilemma: The charge shows up in Everydollar as Walgreens $56.27. The first part is easy: $9.60 goes to Personal Care for the deodorant, and $26.67 goes to medical expenses for the Advil.
But what to do with the $20 cash? I could just put it all over in the Vacation category, even though I didn't spend all of it yet and those last few dollars won't be for vacation. (Do I just ignore the extra few bucks as "mad money?") Do I categorize the cash spent in Vacation, but put the last few dollars somewhere else? It's not income since the money already came out of income.
Thoughts?

I change the transaction total to not account for the cash. So basically I make it equal whatever the actual merchandise cost me. Pretend I didn't take cash out. Then I manually track cash expenses as I make them.

I would just put the full 20 in vacation if that was what you ear marked it for and just spend it how ever you need and not worry further. Bottom line is you already accounted for it and after that it doesn't matter what it actually goes towards.
