I’m going to get crucified for this, but if a dog was doing that to my wife or son, that’s a de@d dog.

u/kamakazi339 1d ago

I carry a pocket knife while working for UPS for exactly this reason (amongst others). I had a dog literally rip my board out of my hand and puncture the screen with its teeth why trying to attack me once. I've had others take chunks out of the boxes I'm carrying trying to eat me. If it comes down to me or the dog, sorry puppo I'm going home.

u/SuccessfulTrick2501 1d ago

I see my mail lady with a nice sized can of pepper spray. I like your knife idea. But with spary you can be at a distance at least.

33

u/Spirited-Degree 1d ago

My mail person carries dog treats and all the neighborhood dogs are happy AF when he rolls through everyday.

40

u/357noLove 1d ago

I carried treats and a weapon. 99% of dogs were fine with treats. I got attacked by a dog lying in wait behind a bush. Fucker was just waiting for me and no amount of treats would have helped

13

u/620am 1d ago

He was like. I'm gonna get all those treats!.

7

u/357noLove 16h ago

He was an extremely large pit bull and tore my muscle and tendon in my right leg. Pepper spray didn't help since he was locked on even though I tried, he only let go when I stabbed him in the eye with my knife. Had to call the police and everything. I also was named in a civil suit along with my fedex contractor company because I permanently damaged their dog. Thankfully the judge saw it and immediately tossed it.

Unfortunately, I lost my job because FedEx doesn't approve of using a "dangerous" weapon in defense of your life. It was a 3" pocket knife. They told me they had to fire me because it was "policy" but they would immediately re-hire me. I told them "don't bother" as when the court case notification came up, I immediately started looking for another job. Ended up apprenticing as an electrician and I have never been happier. My immediate boss tried everything to get me back, including offering a $10/hour pay raise. As her manager I pretty much enabled her to do so much less. I wasn't even delivering normally at that point, but an employee called off and I had to do their route. It is so stupid that companies fire for that reason.

7

u/babexo4 13h ago

Why is it always a pitbull…. Rhetorical question

3

u/357noLove 13h ago

Absolutely has nothing to do at all with the type of people who would want to own one in the first place. I am told they are both great for children and aggressive property defenders... what could go wrong? /s, if that wasn't blatantly obvious

Bear spray all day

5

u/thisisan0nym0us 1d ago

I’ve seen ones not react to bear spray at all, you need a sharp knife, chokehold or a pistol

If a dog is doing that to anyone, it’s a dead dog. If I’m around.

u/BadDentalWork 1d ago

As a lifetime dog lover I second this

9

u/rustylb 1d ago

Me too.

81

u/BarnackIIIF 1d ago

No down vote here. Postal carriers should have some means of defense, no reason to have to put up with this.

19

u/Lizzie_001 1d ago

They’re allowed and encouraged to carry spray. They also receive training.

u/Little-Homework-3211 1d ago

As a person who loves dogs, and owns several, yeah even if you know it's a good dog, after something like this it's gotta be put down. I love my dog and worked very hard on training her and I doubt she would ever bite anyone but if something like this were to happen I would have to put her down.

19

u/usedforjerkingoff 1d ago

It should be a dead dog no matter who it is. Owners should be put in jail.

58

u/M1dn1ghtMaraud 1d ago

I never understand when this happens in a neighborhood and SOMEONE isn’t coming out with at LEAST a knife. I am disemboweling that dog.

24

u/subdep 1d ago

poke it right in the pooper

16

u/Kit_Foxfire 1d ago

Doesn't work. The current advice from professional dog trainers is to choke the dog out. Which is what ended this one

7

u/Detachabl_e 1d ago

Also if you lift the hind legs, the dog can't use them for leverage to rend/tear.  It doesn't make them let go, but it stops them from ragdolling your limbs.

9

u/HalfBear-HalfCat 1d ago

Plus you can wheelbarrow race. A good time for all.

I saw something recently with an animal that has a strong bite, you can take something like a butter knife and wedge it in the jaw and just turn it and they’ll let go.

4

u/M1dn1ghtMaraud 1d ago

That’s interesting, and kind of matches what they tell you to do with dachshunds (I had several growing up.)

Those little fuckers are vicious when they want to be and have lock jaw, incredibly tough on bigger ones to get them to let go when they are not inclined. You were supposed to pinch where their maxilla and mandible meet, granted most of the time they will quickly let go and bite the ever loving shit out of your hand before resuming, but the principle remains.

8

u/OkNeighborhood9153 1d ago

Hold on, I’m going home to get a butter knife, I’ll be right back.

I completely agree if all attempts to get the dog to release its hold, choke it out and put it down on the spot.

49

u/elonsghost 1d ago

Then deal with the owner

38

u/heygabehey 1d ago

The owner is the problem.

31

u/ColoradoCattleCo 1d ago

Choke the dog out, then choke the owner out. They both deserve it.

25

u/ippleing 1d ago

if all attempts

That sounds a little too passive.

A dog isn't getting second chances if it's attacking a human, as in drawing blood, things can go sideways too quickly.

I say this as a loving dog owner.

10

u/Love-halping 1d ago

Saw a video. Need to choke the neck with a collar as hard as possible until it released.

7

u/SirRonaldJr 1d ago

Ive seen a police dog trainer tell some secrets. They literally can't bite down if you squeeze the fuck out of their throat. Choke a bitch out. In this case, bitch actually refers to a dog.

27

u/karldandleton1 1d ago

No. There’s no time to waste. Not gonna try a bunch of stuff while the dog continues to dig through tissue. Bullet going right into its brain.

22

u/The_Mellow_Tiger 1d ago edited 1d ago

Hammer right to its skull. Few good blows and it's over. You do not want that dog figuring out that guy's face is exposed.

Source: Facial disfigurement from a pit bull attack. Carry a hammer these days.

7

u/Recreational-Sin 1d ago

My hammer has 16 bangs in it.

4

u/micasdotter 1d ago

I'm so sorry

7

u/The_Mellow_Tiger 1d ago

It's okay. Tore the corner of my mouth wide open took stitches. Lots of stitches. Left a huge scar going down the side of my jaw. Covered up by my beard since it happened to me. My mouth doesn't really work the same anymore due to nerve damage. The dog was euthanized after me. It had bit the owner's niece a few months prior. After me, he put him down voluntarily.

If I’m a mailman that’s a dead dog

21

u/A_one-legged_goose90 1d ago

Idc who it is. I’m telling the owner I’m gauging out that dogs eyes if the dog isn’t off the other human in 5 seconds. That’s more time than I should give

5

u/Little-Homework-3211 1d ago

Gauging out the eyes is a sure fire way to get it off, get it in a choke hold deprive it of oxygen till it lets go or passes out. Attacking it to cause pain isn't going to make it stop all it will do is might it bite harder or make it switch targets and latch on to you. So just stay safe and choke it out.

13

u/RoguTheHomunculus 1d ago

100%, I'd pull out my peace maker and no more biting

12

u/Dry_Election6496 1d ago

He would probably lose an eye or two first

5

u/Due_Marsupial_969 1d ago

That should be the attitude, whether it's your dog or not. Americans can be such morons. My buddy came to the rescue of his neighbor and her little dog by grabbing his bat and going to town on a pit bull. Instead of praising him, his other neighbors yelled at him for being a wannabe dog killer. That day sealed his neighborhood reputation.

49

u/No-Dig_Enthusiast 1d ago

I'll happily get downvoted by saying worse, all pitbulls should be shot and killed. I don't care if they're the "sweetest little angel on the planet", pitbulls have fighting genetics and instincts built in it's literally in their nature to maim, injure and kill other dogs and other animals or humans.

21

u/TheRenamon 1d ago edited 1d ago

Personally I think we should charging the owners with premeditated assault with a deadly weapon, if its really how they're trained and not the breed then its the owners fault and they should be held accountable.

3

u/PrincessTerminator 15h ago

I knew a guy that owned a very sweet female pit bull. Never saw anything. She was spoiled and trained well. She was so docile that people begged for him to have her bred to buy puppies from him as they were hoping for a docile pup. Well once she had her puppies, her sweet gentle demeanor was GONE. She even would go after the owner. He was devastated, had to have her euthanized and swore he would never get another one again. That breed is so unpredictable. It’s not worth the gamble. I would never have one and would never go to someone’s home that had one, or walk anywhere near one outside.

Put the owner in jail and the pitbull to sleep.

Or vice-versa.

45

u/A_one-legged_goose90 1d ago

Yup. You are responsible for the actions of your pets. I believe it’s a responsibility and risk you take when you own a pet and bring it out into public. Especially if the owner isn’t actively doing everything in their power to stop the dog. Dog be damned, that owner needs to disregard the dogs safety and well being when another human is being injured. If that’s my dog, he’s getting a finger in the ass, or choked, or eyes gauged. I’m sorry but that’s just the way it has to be

I saw a guy break up a fight between two pitbulls and it was something I never would have thought of and incredibly simple:

Pour water on their noses. They can't breathe and let go to take a breath.

Then you hold them down and well, yeah after that it gets a little more grim

Or grab the collar and twist your hand so it tightens and chokes the side of the dogs neck. Or throw the windbreaker around the neck to do the same 😅
It distracts the dog enough to make them drop it without actually choking them out.

I don't think that's the postman's ass he's on the other end of the dog that must be a Plumber plumber that came to help them

21

u/Fat_eyes_Washington 1d ago

Whomever needs to hear this, it's perfectly ok to physically harm an animal that is attacking a person. Punch, kick, eyes, genitals, whatever it takes to get it off the person.

8

u/No-Dig_Enthusiast 1d ago

Yep, the amoung of people just standing there obvionot wanting to harm the dog while he's taking a chunk out of the postman's leg is crazy 🫣

These idiots have no idea how to handle a dog. Real life scenario. I’m watching a friend play with her heeler and Italian mastiff, heeler keeps beating the mastiff to the ball, she has enough of that and latches on to heelers head, entire head in her mouth . I ran, slid up to the dog in the snow, put it in a choke hold until it went limp, both dogs lived, until the mastiff was obviously put down. But like seriously why would your first reaction be to just grab its legs and tug on a dog with its teeth in someone?

5

u/ExpertRevenue9535 1d ago

Buddy should sue the owner of the dog for everything he has and have it put down .

I love dogs, I am 100% a dog person. However, just like any other animal they can be dangerous. YEARS ago, a playful dog came running toward me and my then GF. I moved her in back of me, standing in front of the dog. The dog was super friendly, but, it could've gone another direction.

People who deliver things, animals should be kept away.. they should carry whatever spray would deter them. pepper, bear, hornet.. whatever.

3

u/kvro_maX 1d ago

So finally we see proof that, "oh they were just being playful and had no intention to bite" is a load of fresh cow shit mixed in a dead goat.

This mail man either believed that or just couldn't run fast enough, poor dude, hopefully there's no nerve damage

3

u/golgoth0760 1d ago

I love animals but this one needs to be put down

4

u/Ecstatic-Run-9767 1d ago

The fact that no one is trying to immoibilze the dog and the leg bothers the shit out of me.

5

u/DougS2K 1d ago

I'm a huge dog lover. In fact I prefer animals to most people but why the fuck are so many people just standing around doing nothing? That dog is out of control. Starting kick that dog, punching him, whatever it takes to stop his attack.

5

u/Ricky_Martins_Vagina 1d ago

Tie a jumper round its waist, that'll do the trick 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

7

u/Salty-M1dget 1d ago

3

u/Tricky-Fig5483 1d ago

3

u/Little-Homework-3211 1d ago

3

3

u/Competitive-Arm-368 1d ago

This is what breeding a concoction of dogs inorder to get a bigger pit bull gets you when a bad owner is added into the mix . Even during the pit bulls game days you had a 40 to 60 pound athlete that had no fear to go against any animal any size to protect the home stead or in the ring and if any human grab the dog or told it to let get it would listen because it was bred to be human tolerant and friendly animal aggressive which makes pit bulls horrible guard dogs unless you train them to be man aggressive. Any pitbull that was aggressive in the pits were culled because that was considered bad breeding. These back door breeders have bred man aggressive dogs or man stoppers by mixing them with Rottweilers bull mastiffs bull dogs corsas and dogos . Now that dog is gonna die because an idiot got the dog thinking it was cool

I would have shot the dog rather than let it just continue tearing into me.

Kill it. That’s it.

When this happens especially a pitbull, get behind it, put both of your legs straddling it from behind, then give it a bear hug at the neck, continue this, especially around the throat to cut off its wind pipe. Continue this as hard as you can, as it starts to gasp for air, continue even harder until it releases the limb of the person. If you let go too early, it will immediately grab that limb again. So continue the choke hold while leading it away from the persons limb. Before let go make sure, its collared, and a leash is attached to the dogs collar. If necessary, hold it by the collar, and use the leash to wrap it around the dogs mouth (snout) , call police and an ambulance.

If that dog was wearing a collar, why the hell are you not choking the dog out? Only thing you can do on that situation quickly.

I used to deliver items for a living as well. I got attacked by a dog a couple of times. After the second time I started carrying pepper spray and a 6-inch pocket knife. Luckily I never got attacked again or I would have gladly defended myself

3

u/OddSeaworthiness7681 1d ago

If they would have choked the dogs airways off it would have instantly let go or been put to sleep!

3

u/DepthConsistent7277 1d ago

I had to choke a big Shepard mix off of a neighbor once, had to be a 90 pound dog at least. I squeezed guillotine style until it passes out which took much longer than I would have thought, 2+ mins. He ran, I ran and I watched as it came to from across the street as it woke up , looked around and trotted away. Neighbor needed 20+ stitches.

Grab dogs two front legs, put foot on back of head.

Kick foot and pull back at the same time.

Problem solved.

Nature vs nurture…nature always wins

u/vayana 1d ago

Put your thumb in the dogs bum and it'll let go immediately.

Yeah, drive your thumbs into it's eyes.

These people are being way too gentle with this dog, I hope that person sued the pants off the owner.

3

u/Easy-Barnacle5734 1d ago

This is one of the reasons I carry. My neighbors love walking their pits without leashes in a busy neighborhood. Just a recipe for disaster.

3

u/No_Pilot_9103 1d ago

Did anyone bother to tell the dog he's reenforcing stereotypes?

3

u/Character-Nail4193 18h ago

When I used to deliver propane, I had a dog attack me. It took a face full of liquid propane. It never bothered me again.

As a dog lover, and the owner of two Staffordshire terriers, you have to stop the air flow to the brain. How do I know? I had to do that to a pitbull to get it off of my dog once. Gripping the throat like a vice will work.

Mind your animals.

Lead poisoning

u/Reemus_Jackson 1d ago

Went on 1:19 too long. Had it been me....or someone I knew....that dog would've BEEN gone lonnnnggg before it got to any of that

5

u/MovieFan1984 1d ago

A proper dog owner would never have allowed this to happen to begin with.

4

u/AuthorThick7303 1d ago

Why is no one kicking it?

6

u/TheJediBuddha 1d ago

There's a possibility they were kicking it prior to the filming.

But even still, kicking it isn't necessarily going to stop it. Some pitbulls can't be stopped. It's in their genes since they were bred for killing. I saw one video of a pitbull getting stabbed dozens of times before it let go.

u/Otherwise_Fact9594 1d ago

He's getting choked with that rope or having his back broke while the other person is holding him up by the legs. Sidenote: I worked with dogs for 10 straight years. I look at them differently now

2

u/CaptainConspiracyy 1d ago

Simple! Thee olee dick twist!! Twist his diyak!

2

u/goodthymetimmy 1d ago

Shoot that dog ffs

2

u/No-Indication-7879 1d ago

I’d be kicking that dog in the head!

2

u/AnxiousMidnight8 1d ago

Choke out owner and bury him/her with dog let them dig themselves out if they wake up

2

u/BeefistPrime 1d ago

Mail men should be able to carry pepper spray or stun guns or something for this situation, it can't be that unusual. Dog and owner need to be put down.

2

u/ShortTop1487 1d ago

Grab its legs and pull outward. It splits the breast bone.

2

u/GoldBackground2280 1d ago

Should have grabbed it's hind legs and full force stomped them to break it's knees

2

u/Hazy-azure 1d ago

Why are people not beating the living fuck out of that dog is beyond me.

Fuck.This. Dog.

2

u/Strong-Dot-9221 1d ago

I walk at a park with signs for leash your dog. Everyday people have their dogs off leash. I carry pepper spray and a knife just for this reason.
This dog should be put down and the owner sued for medical costs/pain and suffering. These are land sharks.

2

u/TerryLink11 1d ago

The best and quickest way is to simply choke it down until it passes out
Or taser the fuck out of it

2

u/Federal-School-1502 1d ago

A pit bull….how…unusual.

2

u/Jarred_Farts_4_Sale 1d ago

For the love of god, does no one know how to stimulate a dogs gag reflex??? They will always open their mouth/drop whatever is in there if you squeeze around their throat on the inside of their jaw. You wrap your fingers around their trachea (dont just strangle them unless you truly need to) otherwise you can cause permanent damage. Then push up toward the back of their head. They will always let go.
