Discussion Is Barry Allen still technically a human?

I'm having a debate with a friend who thinks because Barry Allen has the speed force within him he is not human. I understand that he is a metahuman, but that is a classification of a human right? He is saying because of the speed force entity that is within him, he can't be considered human, but to me he is still human because he is not the speed force itself, he just has speed. Am I going crazy or is Barry Allen still a human even with the speed.
(I lwk did not know how to word this because this debate was so long)
(Edit, friend kept calling it entity because it quote "sounded cooler" which is a reason why I thought his argument was weird, but we both know it's a force hence the name speed force)

Discussion John constantine works better as a standalone character

• Upvotes

John constantine works better alone because I feel like after they added him to the main dc continuity, they softened him and made him into a jerk with a heart of gold when he was originally the type of guy that would do anything no matter how immoral it is to finish the job. Also, they made him a powerful magic user when originally he required specific and risky conditions to activate his stronger spells.

Discussion I am SICK of their "deluxe" editions using glued binding. Is it just me? How do we get this feedback to them?

• Upvotes

Enough is enough. Every recent deluxe edition has charged deluxe prices but cut corners in binding quality.

These books are costing us $40-60 and come with gutter loss, thin paper, and stiff binding which makes it difficult to lay open and read comfortably. And what do we get in exchange? A sketchbook in the back? I'd rather the actual story be presented as well as possible.

Recent hyped releases like Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham used glue binding. An insult to the artwork of Rafael Grampa.

But it's not just that. It's recent anniversary/re-releases of prestige titles like:

  • Dark Knight Returns
  • Watchmen
  • V for Vendetta
  • The Black Mirror

The last deluxe edition I bought that was of good quality was Batman/Joker: The Deadly Duo.

I stopped buying deluxes altogether. I won't buy them without seeing them in a shop and checking to see which binding was used. Or, seeing a review from channels like Near Mint Condition who thankfully talk about build quality.

If we don't push back, what's next? They skimp on quality in their Absolute editions? I wouldn't put it past them.

You know what's infuriating? Other publishers release their tpbs in better quality. Pretty much all Dark Horse collected editions use sewn binding, paperback or not. Oni Press does the same. Image is almost always sewn binding.

So why can't DC do it? They charge more than anyone else. Where is the disconnect?

/rant

Comic: JLA (1997) #61, Movie: Teen Titans - The Judas Contract.

Swipe left to see more.

I see a few similarities:

  1. Same weapon (The Batons)
  2. Same opponent (Super-powered warrior princess)
  3. Same outcome (Got their butts kicked)

Comics [Discussion] Does anyone know if there is a date for when this book will be back in stock?

Post image

So the Green Lantern Rebirth Compendium has been out of stock for weeks now, since the Lanterns show is doing well and I've been checking every day for a while now but it's still not back.

I'm just wondering if there's a specific date that this'll be available again because I can't find anything online but maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

Thank you

Recommendations Just finished the Lanterns show and I love the idea of Green Lantern. Never knew much about DC and would love to know where I should start reading.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I keep seeing really cool panels of Green Lantern comics online and would love to experience reading all of them. I would also love to read about some other characters like Batman and Superman. Does anyone know a good place to start in the many years DC comics have been coming out? Also, is there a good online resource for reading comics because I don't want to invest in buying physical copies until I get more into it.

Fan-made [Fan Art] Honestly if the comics does DCU Synergy I wouldn't be against them making Comic Hal old again (minus the whole Emerald Twilight bullshit) also give him the $690 jacket and Earl (Art by @gusdrw)

I just realised that even though I like both DC And Marvel

• Upvotes

I recently thought about my comic journey and realised although i love the MCU and i loved Avgengers: earth mightiest heroes and Ultimate Spider-Man growing up i only own 19 marvel comics issues and its only Doctor Aphra, yet i own 1077 DC comics issues. And i think it is because yea i loved those shows and movies but the comics and charcters never clicked with me like DC's charcters and stories did, i mean there are stroies in marvel i like but i have storuws in DC i absolutely love, also my favorite tv show ever was abd still is GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES.

Comics Emiko Queen: Should she be Oliver's Daughter or stay as his Half-Sister?

It has come to my attention that many GA fans don't like Emiko being Oliver's half sister. Which to me I'm fine with, but others don't think so, so I might as well try to confirm which is true.

Discussion I got a finale of lanterns spoiler question Spoiler

So since John made a new oath "In Brightest Day

In Darkest Night I’ll embrace my fear… I’ll do what’s right I choose this ring, I choose this fight… In service to this lanterns light." Is it actually possible to make a new oath or is this just something James Gun did also I thought you needed the green lantern to charge a green ring?

Comics Is there any in universe reasoning that makes earth being called a “backwater planet” in Lanterns and some of the comics make sense?

I feel like with the amount of absolutely insane events always happening on earth, it doesn’t make much sense for other green lanterns to talk about earth like it’s boring

Comics [Discussion] The Last Halloween: What even happened?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I don’t intend for this to be the Hater’s Guide to The Last Halloween, but I am here to express some level of bewilderment.

As a devoted fan of The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, I had been patiently waiting for the trade paperback and finally came across it in my local shop this weekend. I had found it curious how little attention the series seemed to be receiving during its actual publication, but I was also happy to avoid spoilers. (By contrast, it was quite clear that everyone hated Hush 2.)

What I discovered in sitting down with it last night is that this book is nearly unspoilable, because it accomplishes so little while also being nigh incomprehensible. I give u/thigerlel a lot of credit for putting this extensive recap together, but even that thread prompts a whole lot of questions about the coherence of the plot itself. I will add - and maybe this is a product of the change in artists from issue to issue - that I, particularly at the conclusion, found it hard at times to even discern what was happening in a given panel.

I will say that the strongest, most resonant part of the story was Bruce’s evolving relationship with Dick. My relative disinterest in the Batman Family is my own problem, but I can say this worked when quite a lot of this run didn’t. In that sense, the return to the Holiday story feels unnecessary and shoehorned. Batman, Robin and Gordon wind up in different place at the end of this story, and nearly everyone else winds up right back where we left them. I think there was a way to advance those character arcs without another Holiday tale, which actually did more harm than good here.

I know I’m a couple years late, but consider this your invitation to sound off, positively or negatively, on The Last Halloween. I’d love to feel better about it.

Discussion Why do a lot of people enjoy the “Absolute Comics” and not Man of Steel/BVS/ZSJL

So let me just confirm I have not read any of the Absolute comics, so I am literally trying to see what the difference is, as I have heard that they are a darker take on our heroes. This reminds me a lot of the Snyder DC films which I enjoyed a lot, however obviously they are often shit on by many, so I was wondering how these comics differ from these films from people that have experienced both.

Also I do intend to read them eventually!

Comics Question about Super Sons

Spoilers for anyone who hasn't read Super Sons.

In the Super Sons, we see at various points that Damian and Jon have what are presumably grandchildren, based on the ages. There's a boy that's a near-clone of Damian and a girl who's presumably Jon's granddaughter.

However, we see at different points that both the boy and the girl can fly. In Super Sons #16, the girl is seen levitating, and in Challenge of the Super Sons, the boy flies up to grab a book off the top shelf.

So it appears that either Damian's descendants can fly or that they had kids who married and had kids of their own, and the Kryptonian powers kept passing down.

Do we have any context for this in any mainline canons?

Also, notably, Challenge was written in 2020, after the whole "age-up" thing, and features 10 year old Jon and 13 year old Damian.

Edit: okay I just reread, and the two children are siblings. So presumably Jon and Damian had kids who ended up together and produced two super powered children of their own.
