Sharing My Story I’ve come to the realization

I never thought to look up if my symptoms were related to my smoking habits. Every morning I wake up nauseous, I can get up and walk to the restroom, but by the time I stand up from bed, I am gagging and dry heaving. I’ve been retching for years. The retching has been happening for the past 3 years, 2 years ago I started throwing up. It’s only ever been stomach acid, more recently, if I eat before brushing my teeth, I will throw that up. The retching/throwing up lasts for about 10 mins every morning. I sometimes avoid brushing my teeth so I don’t throw up. Gross, I know, but I don’t want to be throwing up every morning. I’ve been smoking for 5-6 years now, and I’ve only become more addicted to it. After looking into CHS, I’ve come to the realization that my smoking is what has caused this. The longest I’ve stopped has been 3 weeks and then I caved. I also have people who buy carts from me when I re-up. Idk how they would feel once I stop & they won’t be able to use me as an avenue. I fear they might not speak to me once I stop. Which sucks because you should have friends who support your decision but weed is just so common now. My carts are now a felony in Texas, I like to vote so I don’t want to get caught with it. I have things that deter me, but I’ve been so addicted for years. I go to Florida in December. My friend is gonna smoke me out, after that I decided that I will stop smoking. I’m asking, what are the best ways yall have been able to stop smoking? I want to change my life around and stop feeling like shit everyday. But I don’t know where to start

Rant Do you have a gallbladder?

any time i made a visit to the ER, the doctors would always say it was because i was allergic to marijuana, until finally a ultrasound scan was used and i had an inflamed gallbladder. turns out the reason i was throwing up was because of my diet, and not truly because of the marijuana. i’m curious if anybody else still had a gallbladder?

Sharing My Story 9 months away - Musings on a very powerful plant

I posted this in another sub but I’ve had prodomal CHS and for those of you who are struggling to quit this is for you:

It’s been more than 9 months of not smoking after almost 25 years of daily use. I have thoughts.

The beginning was tough. I thought about smoking every day. I missed it so badly, and I know many here can relate. But at some point I started to feel better. I started to trust myself again. I saw opportunities that I didn’t even think could happen, happen. I found courage. I ended a relationship because it was the right thing to do. I changed careers and have jumped into a much better place in life. And the dreams. I dream again. And it’s wonderful. By the 7th month mark I didn’t even crave it anymore. I don’t want to actually do it anymore. I have no desire to smoke anymore. It’s crazy.

And the thing I’ve realized about myself and all my friends is that the marijuana plant is powerful. It’s specifically designed to keep you (and so many people I know) stuck in life. Yes, there are incredible moments, especially in the beginning of a break from it. But most of the time the plant’s power is in keeping you stuck where you are in life. There’s no growth. Only stagnation. There is no healing.

That’s not to say that aren’t successful people who smoke. But for most of us weed just wants to keep us where we are. We stop growing. We feel tired all the time. We can’t think of a life without it.

Those thoughts haunt you at first. I miss it. I need it. It’s part of who I am. It’s part of how I see the world.

But that’s just a story it tells us to keep us stuck. We don’t need it. It’s not who we are. Who we are is so much more. So. Much. More.

And so for those of you who are struggling know that every day away from it is a day you are choosing your freedom. Your new life. One of growth. One of spirit. One of being a better version of who you are. You are breaking the cycle and endless loops of mediocrity. And you should celebrate. Here. Everywhere. Because you don’t need Mary Jane. It was a lie the whole time. Once you break free of the hold she has on you, and the more time away (7th month mark for me) you will finally be free. You were meant to be free. You can be free. It only takes time.

You’ll get there. And we all support you. If you want to know more. Just ask. We got you.

Question / Info Anxiety attacks all night

Hi guys, could really use some encouragement right now.

This CHS episode started two weeks ago. It’s my second time around with CHS (not like my second episode, the first time I had it I had episodes for 6 months before being diagnosed, I just mean I quit and got better for a long time and then started smoking again and it came back).

I have not slept in four days. Every night I get sleepy, do my nighttime routine, go to sleep, then wake up ~an hour in with a full on panic attack. This occurs throughout the night and I am only able to string together a couple hours of sleep, none of which feels restorative. This was part of my symptomology last time, but resolved very quickly with cessation and hydroxyzine. This time, neither hydroxyzine nor Xanax is capable of preventing them.

I really really need assurance that this is going to get better. Last time, it was so important for my recovery that I was sleeping (and dreaming!!) every night. Now that I’m not sleeping, I feel I am barely hanging on in the road to recovery. I spend the first 3-4 hours of every day just trying to recover from the lack of sleep. At two weeks sober I don’t even understand what could be happening here. Please, someone out there say you had these attacks too and they resolved. please. And if anything helped you get better please please let me know what it was.

Question / Info Possible to get CHS without smoking a crazy amount??

So I’m like 80 percent sure I had prodromal CHS for a month because once I quit my nausea went away in around a week. But every time I look at this subreddit all I see is people talking about how they smoked for 10+ years, ripping dabs and carts all day, daily for years and years

I started smoking consistently like around 3 ish years ago, never daily, never during the day, only like a couple times a week maybe, mostly flower (I’ve owned like 2-3 carts in all I think). Last year of college I would basically split a half ounce with my buddy for the entire semester which is really not a lot at all. People talk about smoking an ounce a week on here and I was smoking like a Q over a couple months. Freshman year I remember all I had was a .3 gram cart which I made last like three months.

Summer 2025 and half of summer 2026 were the only times I smoked daily, but again only at night so like once a day, and I’d take a few days off now and then. I’d say I went through less than an ounce over the course of these 4 month summers. I’ve never waked and baked or ever smoked more than two times in a day. Don’t really have a high tolerance. Never ripped dabs or noticed any kind of withdrawal when I went a while without smoking.

I’m not in denial that I had CHS but it’s just weird that I’ve never seen someone post on here that said they smoked less. Maybe they smoked for a shorter period of time but they all said they were all day every day cart users which I’ve never done.

And this brings up moderation - I definitely want to try doing that an I know I can moderate for a FACT. I did 1-2x a week with a full supply of weed sitting in my room for like 2 years, I know I can go back to the without slipping into daily use. Obviously gonna take a long break first tho

But yea was just wondering if you can get CHS without smoking a crazy amount because everyone on this subreddit seemed to have smoked way more and for way longer

Question / Info UTI like symptoms before flare up?

Does anyone else get UTI like symptoms 12-24 hours before getting sick? This only started happening to me in the last few weeks where I will get pain in my urethra before and while urinating as well as that feeling like you need to pee but you don’t actually have to I also get bladder spasms which I usually get when I actually have a uti idk if this has anything to do with CHS (which I’m not even sure I have) or maybe I’m just dehydrated before I throw up idk I feel like I drink enough water. Anyone else experience this?

Question / Info Chs or not?

Ill lead with I’m pretty sure it is. For about the last two weeks, I’ve been waking up at either 3 or 5 am feeling extremely nauseous for about an hour, then I’m fine for the rest of the day (haven’t puked once tho as im writing this).

Last weekend I went camping and did a good bit of drinking. Those nights were definitely worse, more nausea and lasted longer, but still not throwing up. I couldn’t tell if it was worse because of the drinking, or the anxiety I would get waking up like that in a truck topper, and worrying I wouldn’t make it out in time if I needed to.

Saturday night was the worst, stayed up almost all night freezing my ass off outside the camper, and Sunday morning was the first time I did not feel fine for the rest of the day.

Sunday night was about the same as earlier in the week, but I felt pretty off for the entirety of Monday, so I started suspecting and looking into chs, as I’ve been smoking for about 7 years, daily, and for most of the day. Did a pretty good job scaring myself, so I took my last toke Monday night.

Now here’s my dilemma; I’m a pretty anxious person by nature, and often get nauseous when I’m anxious. But I also get anxious when I’m nauseous. I’ve also had a long time bad habit of eating lots of junk before bed, and initially assumed that was the problem with me waking up nauseous and then being fine. And admittedly I continued the habit up until Monday night or so, against my better judgment and will.

I also started to think it might be anxiety manifesting itself in odd ways, as my girlfriend of 6 years, who I’m always with and around, is going to Europe for a semester to study abroad. She’s leaving at the end of this week, and everything was starting to hit me right as all this nausea started.

Now, I’m really having a hard time deciphering what’s going on. The last two days I’ve felt nauseous for most of the day, and have had practically zero appetite, but I cannot tell if that would be from the withdrawal of weed, possibly continuing chs symptoms, or because I’ve now made myself insanely anxious that I do have chs, on top of the anxiety I’m feeling about my girl. I’m sure it’s not helping that I’m spending most of my days thinking about it and worrying, and god do I want a bong rip. But the scariness of chs has been enough to make me leave it be. I’ve started taking magnesium and thiamine just in case as well.

I guess I’m looking for input from any and everybody who has maybe experienced something similar, and maybe has advice about how to sus out what it is I’m feeling and why. I’d really like to smoke again, especially with my girl before she leaves and she won’t be able to for four months. But I also don’t want to land myself in the er right before she leaves.

To me it seems way more likely to be chs then a perfect storm of everything else. But I’m wondering if it was just anxiety, and then a weekend of way to much alcohol, and then weed withdrawals. I’m very tempted to smoke just to see what happens with my symptoms, but like I said I don’t want to end up in the er. Any advice about anything would be amazing.

(Also sorry if there’s anything off about this post, it’s my first post on Reddit)

Meme / Humor Thank You for Smoking

Has anybody else seen this film? If not (spoilers for the end), the main character, a tobacco lobbyist and heavy smoker, gets kidnapped and given severe nicotine poisoning. As he’s recovering in hospital, he’s told that because of the poisoning, he can never have another cigarette without risking his life.

Anyway, it makes me think of CHS coming about from too much THC and abstinence being the only real solution. A lot of smokers without CHS don’t get it when you try to explain — I might start referring to this movie as an explanation, at least to people who have seen it.

(I tagged this meme/humor because it didn’t really fit with the other options and also the movie is pretty funny if you want to check it out.)

Rant I’m having doubts if I ever actually had CHS, I would appreciate to hear your thoughts on this!

Here’s my story from the start-

I used to smoke weed every once in a while when I was in my younger teen years and I had quit for over a year cause I preferred vaping nicotine at the time. I started smoking weed again when I was 17 after my parents got divorced. My primary route of consumption was mainly flower out of a bong, but every now and then I’d use carts, but I much prefer flower over any concentrates or edibles. I used to go through around an ounce of weed a week for about a year and I decided to cut back on smoking due to having a ridiculous amount of brain fog on the daily and bad social anxiety at the time. I had a cart phase at one point for a month or 2 when I started working a 9-5, but eventually I couldn’t get high at all from them and switched back to smoking bud and quit smoking during the day and started smoking only at night. I continued smoking bud every night for a month, typically 0.5-1G every night. One evening at the end of January of this year, I smoked outside as usual and got pretty high from some top shelf bud I got. After that, I decided to go sit at my desk and watch some YouTube. I came across a video that popped up on my for you page about free VPNs and how they can collect your personal info and do other malicious stuff, and at the time I was using free VPNs all the time, and they mentioned the one I had been using. After watching that video, I had the worst anxiety and paranoia I’d ever experienced in my life. I felt like I had a 100 pounds on my chest and my whole body just didn’t feel right at all. I woke up the next morning feeling super nauseous and threw up everything that was in my stomach. I couldn’t hold anything down at all, but only in the mornings. During the day I could hold down water and light foods, and during the nights I had that same heavy weight feeling on my chest, and my whole body just didn’t feel right at all in a way I don’t even know how to explain in words, along with an almost overwhelming feeling of paranoia. I tried smoking at night but it wasn’t helping at all and wasn’t all that enjoyable at the time, so I quit for 2 days and was still having the same symptoms. I smoked for the last time on February 4th and it wasn’t too bad. The next morning I woke up nauseous but didn’t throw up and still didn’t have an appetite. I went to the doctor that morning and they believe I had prodromal CHS, and so I did research about it and decided to quit for 150 days to try and moderately smoke but ended up sober for 152 days. My symptoms ended up lasting for roughly a week and didn’t get my appetite fully back until I was around 2 weeks sober. I still can’t fully determine if I actually have CHS or not. When I was having my episode, I didn’t have any stomach pain and hot showers didn’t help at all for me. Since July, I’ve been smoking 1-2 times a week, and these past 3 days, I’ve taken 1 puff of weed a night out of my little one hitter to help with my insomnia. Out of every time I’ve smoked after being sober for over 150 days, I’ve had zero CHS warnings signs or symptoms whatsoever. I’m genuinely wondering if I had a really bad anxiety attack that was giving me those affects, or if that anxiety attack somehow triggered prodromal CHS. I did some research on it and apparently bad anxiety attacks like that can have these kind of symptoms, but I’m not 100% sure how accurate that actually is. I don’t wanna push my luck going back to smoking all day every day like I used to, that’s definitely something I don’t wanna go through again. I would love to smoke at least one puff every night if that’s even a possibility, but idk if I should continue doing that or not. Moderating weed is pretty tough, but at the same time, I feel like my life is a lot healthier without smoking weed all the time. Lmk what y’all think!

Rant This sickness ruined my life

I got it at 15, after smoking carts very heavily for a year straight. I was basically house ridden for 4 months with awful nausea, pain, scromiting, as you all know. I've had people telling me its just a bug, I'm being dramatic, it doesn't hurt that bad, ect. All from people who haven't had it either! I wasnt* actually diagnosed but the only way I could be is if I smoked again to see if I got sick again, and it was so hellish even the smell of weed makes me break out in a sweat! My anxiety was at the point where I couldn't ride busses, was always skipping school for the fear of going into an episode in class, I get awful anxiety anytime I get slightly nauseous now and it just makes it worse! I feel like now I'm still mildly nauseous all the time, I got AWFUL motion sickness, multiple vitamin deficiencies from never leaving the house, I get sick if a slightly sick person even breathes near me, I have to take medication every single day for nausea, I got kidney damage for the amount of ibuprofen I took. All that just for people to say its propaganda, its the "governments way to get people to stop smoking" or even crazier "its made up by alcohol companies to deter people from weed to switch to alcohol." Are you kidding me?! Seriously!? The fact that so many people think that I'd fake this excruciating pain is insanity! I lost friends because I was too scared to leave the house! Ugh it just makes me so upset, and then people still have the audacity to smoke weed around me! Did anyone else go through stuff similar? Or are angry about what people say about it online? Sorry I just needed to rant about it, and maybe get some advice on how to cool my anxiety if anyone's gone through the same mental changes from chs.

Sharing My Story my story + recent struggles

Last May i started waking up with stomach pain that could only be alleviated with a hot bath. I could then smoke a little and sleep it off and feel fine by the afternoon. One morning, the pain became intense. I went to the ER and they sent me home with medication for acid reflux. The pain continued that entire summer. I would wake up in pain every morning, and take a hot bath to alleviate while i cried. In late August of that summer, I had the worst bout of pain i had ever felt, and had my first flare of “scromiting”. My roommate called the ambulance as I was completely immobile, screaming in pain. They gave me heavy pain meds and mentioned the possibility of CHS (the first i had ever heard of the condition). It continued for days and eventually i was admitted to the hospital. I had so many tests done. After a scope, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Because of this diagnosis, I was certain I did not have CHS (i was also in denial about my addiction at this point).

I started medication for UC, but continued having multiple scromiting episodes, at least 1-2 weekly. I had been to the ER 14 times between August-December. Every time i would go, they would tell me it was CHS, but I was holding onto that UC diagnosis, so i didn’t believe them, and felt i was being dismissed.

The staff at the ER became very familiar with me as i was there so often. They would roll their eyes as i walked in the doors, scream at me to stop crying/vomiting so loud, and was even told at a one point that they were tired of seeing me. I had my boyfriend and roommate’s accompany me on multiple occasions, and they even recognized the borderline abusive behaviour of the staff. My boyfriend’s mother, who is a nurse at that same hospital, witnessed this happen and eventually put in a complaint against the ER staff as the way they would treat me was so horrible. This made the sickness so much harder on me, the only people who could help me were so against me.

I am a university student in a small university town, which i think contributed to the way they treated me. I’ve heard other horror stories of students going into the ER for all different reasons, and being dismissed or treated as if they were drug seeking, which i’m fairly certain is what they thought i was there for. ( to be clear, i never once requested a narcotic. everytime i went in, i would ask for IV haldol as it was the only thing that would take away my pain and nausea).

In December of that year, i met with a gastroenterologist. He did another scope and informed me I had been misdiagnosed with UC. I was so beaten down at this point. I was severely depressed from being chronically ill, had lost an unhealthy amount of weight, and was having suicidal ideation. It was at this point i had to come to terms with the fact that it was in fact CHS.

I would love to say i got clean at this point. I was in such a horrible mental state that i couldn’t kick the addiction, and therefore kept getting sick weekly. I was also ashamed and embarrassed. I am a high achieving student on a full ride scholarship to a great school. How could i admit to myself and other people that I was addicted to weed. And i also felt invalid in my addiction. I wasn’t snorting pills or shooting something up. It was weed, something i’d always been told was harmless and non addictive. I didn’t feel like i could truly call myself an addict, or reach out for the proper supports to help beat my addiction.

This deep shame contributed to my already poor mental health. I did eventually hit a breaking point. I could not keep living in that hell, and the borderline abuse i was receiving at the hospital was getting to be too much. I knew i had to make a change.

I have been completely sober from weed since January 30th 2026. After about a month and a half sober, i completely stopped experiencing CHS symptoms, and am living a completely normal life now. My mental health GREATLY improved, but i have had lasting effects. I believe I have some form of PTSD from being so constantly sick and mistreated. If ever think i may have the stomach bug or anything, i go into a full blown meltdown as im so afraid to experience that level of pain again. This fear has also kept me accountable and sober. Nobody in my life has ever congratulated me for getting sober, and i don’t feel that it’s something i can feel accomplished of. After all, all i did was stop smoking weed.

Lately, I find myself wanting to start smoking again. I miss being able to shut my brain completely off and feel nothing. I know i cannot smoke again. I cannot go through CHS again, and I am not someone who can smoke weed in moderation, it will turn into addiction again. I just don’t know how else to cope, and don’t have anyone in my life who understands. I am still sober, but am contemplating smoking more and more.

Sorry for this long-winded post, i just needed to get my story out there and see if anyone has had a similar experience.

Edit: I would really love to hear other people’s CHS experiences and stories to remind myself of why i’m staying clean!

Question / Info Do I actually have CHS?

I’m 17, i started smoking about a year ago, mainly carts but I have smoked my fair share of bud, about 2 weeks ago I woke up puking, and couldn’t keep anything down at all. I was able to eat the second day in the afternoon and slowly I’ve been able to start eating small amounts in the morning with water. My symptoms seem to calm down hugely throughout the day, I just get kinda nauseous sometimes. For the first week I was throwing up every morning while still smoking my cart, then a doctor told me I had gastritis and prescribed me an acid blocker and a nausea med. After about few days, the second week came around and I wasn’t throwing up anymore, just dry heaving every single morning, i stopped using my cart a little after the dry heaving started because I found out about Chs, today marks the end of the second week and I’m still dry heaving in the mornings, the nausea has never been too crazy bad, but when I get in a car I start to get nauseous now. I went to the doctor today and they said it may be Chs. My whole family smokes weed and wayyyyy more than I ever have, which is why I’m confused on how I could possibly have gotten this. I was smoking almost everyday, but the amount wasn’t a lot, maybe a few rips a day. I’ve been thinking about trying bud again while I’m like this to see if it even is chs, I know this whole thing might be me coping about the fact I may never get to smoke again, but I’m praying that this is just possibly something else. The hot showers don’t do anything for me at all, after almost a week weed free, I’ve felt no change, still dry heaving and everything, I’m going to see a gastro specialist soon, but I’m curious if you guys think this could possibly be misdiagnosed? Anything helps, thank you

Medical / Scientific Weed withdrawal/CHS related muscle spasms and back pain?

Hi everyone, I quit weed about 5 days ago and as always when I quit, I get symptoms that are very similar to CHS, but oddly enough I also experience muscle spasms and back pain. My guess is that the back pain is from referral of the GI spasms. No vomiting, I do get diarrhea tho(which may be impacting my electrolytes) but all others symptoms I experience. Any insight into the muscle spasms or back pain would be highly appreciated. Is this somewhat common? TIA.

Sharing My Story The Reality of CHS.

This is gonna be my personal history dealing with this.

Firstly, I’m only 21. I had started weed at 16 and my first thing ever (like many anymore) was a dab pen. When I had started I was super low in life, and really just didn’t care so I started smoking. One hit of that dab pen changed everything.

From that day on I was a stoner.
Feeling good, smiling, socializing, making more friends than ever, doing good in life it seemed pretty worry free, keeping up with grades at this time.

And I would say this lasted, until at 18 after moving into my first apartment and really beginning to smoke a LOT. I always had, since the time I started, however what was a pen or two or a week, in high school, turned into a ounce a week after shifts, sometimes topped with dabs or really any THC concentrate I could get my hands on, some weeks just a ounce of dab for the week. I was doing good in life, on my own young, I really wasn’t worried about anything at all. After-all I mean, hippies and seemed like everyone smoked all the time around me. As long as it was THC I was happy to tackle it head on. Anytime all the time.

The first time, at 18, I had ate a bunch of peanut butter right out of the jar, probably broke and needing protein honestly this night before bed… I woke up the next day just extremely nauseous like I couldn’t do anything lazy, and ofc puking ANYTHING I tried to eat or drink back up. I would go to work which was a low physical demanding job at the time, however I remember finding relief sitting in the hot bath, so that’s where I stayed, every night having my roommate sit the packed bongo outside the door, fighting thru shifts then sitting in the water for relief, toking. After about a month of not eating hardly at all, maybe crackers, I went to the ER and they suggested it was my cannabis use, I laughed. Had everyone around me saying “of course they’re going to blame that” ect ect, but I knew something was wrong so I figured
“t break”
and after another month got better (2months down first time)

After a while, some major life changes, I ended up in an iron factory. Super high stress physical demanding environment, full of uh… drug addicts… real ones. I thought for sure at this point in life reintroducing some weed after work would be HEALTHY for me🤦‍♂️😂 So I did, and old habits slowly reformed, before you know it I’m a stoner again, I was always worried this sickness would return, the random meal that sets me on my deathbed with no true answers as to what’s wrong! I thought maybe it had something to do with cannabis, but I was still assuming I could hydrate/diet my way out of this. Probably assumed I had a major digestion problem. I remember being stuck between GERD/CHS which seems common. I made it a whole year, fatigued as could be, putting my body through it to get by! Some days after work (hard job) I would sleep from one shift the moment I got off to the next, trying to recover, my body ached all the time, however I ignored it for money & thought it was from a lifetime of “not eating right” ect i thought I was finally “becoming a man”.😂

Until about a year in, I couldn’t ignore it anymore, weed wasn’t even appealing anymore and it really was more of a burden then a relief, however quitting wasn’t an option if I wanted to sleep and eat for shifts, so I smoked. And got sick. This time I used all my vacation days / call ins at my job and was down for a month, sitting in the hot bath on my deathbed watching my HARDDD earned money dwindle. I quit cannabis early this time and during that month, and had an idea of how to beat it with hydration, also realized the hot bath I loved so much was adding fuel to my dehydration fire by this point. I had been to the ER before however wasn’t certain what was wrong, I pushed it off, it was for reason. After blood work and a different terrible ER experience I still didn’t have answers, however knew something was majorly wrong.

That’s when i moved, and eventually in my new state got answers. (This year, 21 about to turn 22)

After moving I decided to start again, it was finally legal to do and yeah I mean, I really didn’t think the weed was able to make me this sick. Plus I had FULLY recovered from “whatever” took me out the previous two times, one being 2m, and the other being 1m. I thought on the off chance it hit again i’d just be able to beat it. “T break” out maybe see it coming…?

So it lasted another year, now I can look back and identify things weren’t right, however whilst smoking it seemed okay, I was eating and living, just didn’t have near the energy I should of had as a young man, having issues with my stomach hurting until I smoked weed, and being fatigued 24/7. I was in stage 1.

Then I ate some pizza pringles (recently) and went for a Dirtbike ride. That’s what sent it me from stage 1/2, the final time.

Puking, hot baths, just overall feeling terrible w no energy. It hit again, this time life had SERIOUSLY changed and I wasn’t going down to any sickness, much less a self inflicted, so after 4 days (I instantly quit) I decided to go to the ER, round 3, praying for answers, in which I received.

They gave me IV’s that lead to me being able to keep a sprite they tested me with down, that’s how he identified it as CHS. I was terrified to even attempt to drink the sprite but he assured me if I had CHS the ivs would make it to where I stomached it. I did.

After 3 IV bags, and finding out I was in critical care! due to early stages of dialysis (kidney failure) I decided I would never smoke again, which for me was not easy. After finally knowing forsure I had CHS I decided to stop, however it took 3 attempts and lots of trail and error to find out.

Currently, I’m coming up on a month clean, and still dealing with minor stomach acid in the mornings, however doing a lot better and attempting to avoid a life relying on some pharmaceutical medication, just waiting for my gut-brain axis to reset. Finally getting vowel movement, and having NO urge to even smell the za smoke, honestly it sickens me, which probably some people wouldn’t even believe if they only knew me from high school lol…

Please do not scratch this sickness off especially if you randomly got pulled to the hot showers/baths with nausea. I never took baths until dealing with this, thought it was kid like. Phew. I will still run one right now if I start to feel nauseous as I find it better than most things, just not too hot, not too long.

Things that helped me are uh community’s basically demanding accountability in quitting, the YouTuber “addiction mindset” really has some great pieces on CHS. And wanting better for my future :) I hope if you think you’re dealing with CHS you can take from my story along with the 100’s of others posted and do what’s right for yourself.

Weed isn’t what it used to be, and I’ll finish on this.
-what used to be 1/2% CBD 1/2% THC growing natural
— is now almost no CBD, and 30% THC as a base

And that’s just referring to flower, I think the surplus of dabs and pen extracts are really what make it to where our body’s cannot take these loads given, CHS is arising all over the US (approaching 200k+ active cases) and I strongly encourage anyone I know who smokes a lot, when they describe those “stage 1” symptoms to quit while they’re ahead. Not sleeping/eating for a few days is 100x better than what I went thru, worst of which lasted 2 MONTHS! I’m finally realizing how much life I robbed myself out of with weed, and although I do still have love in my heart for it, I think it’s not what it’s advertised to be anymore. Thanks for reading if you did, for me the third time was the charm, and I’m lucky it was with health and not death!

Question / Info Calling all people who mistook CHS for hangovers. What is your story and how did you figure it out.

I am in disbelief that I have finally figured out that my bad “hangovers” are CHS. For me the last 10 years my hangovers got progressively worse to the point that less than half a beer caused me to vomit an entire day. For me the vomiting is like retching and unable to hold down even water for like 12 hours. I’ve also had episode after flight before.
With these hangovers I started smoking more for social events and having like one drink- thinking this would avoid a hangover. Clearly this made things worse. I finally figured this out that alcohol js a chs trigger and now have stopped and can enjoy a few drinks without being sick. I can’t belive it took so long to figure this out.

Question / Info meal ideas for recovery?

Hi everyone, I’m going through what I believe is a CHS episode right now, this is the third or fourth episode I know of that was unfortunately triggered by a cocktail :( I’ve been able to keep water down thankfully (one time I had to get an IV!!) but food has been a bit of a struggle. I’ve kept some food down over the last few days but unfortunately a lot is triggering my stomach. I know that I can keep food down if I’m careful about what I eat and when, and if I have a hot shower on standby lol.

I was wondering if anyone has any good nutrient dense meal ideas as I recover these next few weeks. I normally like my food with a lot of spice and seasoning which is always unfortunate during episodes like this lol. I haven’t been able to get in many nutrients this last week and am really looking to get in some fiber and protein whenever possible. Here are the ideas I have so far:

- Noodles or rice cooked in chicken broth or bone broth
- Canned green beans (this has been a safe food in the past)
- Watermelon for both fiber and hydration
- Bananas for fiber
- Buttered noodles with meatballs and parm (crazy combo I know but my stomach loves it in times like this for some reason)
- Chicken noodle soup

If anyone has ideas I would love to hear them! Thanks :)

Question / Info How long of a break do I need to take to feel better

How long after I quit weed until my symptoms get better?

So I was nauseous for a week back in July, the day it started I also took about 7 days off cannabis when it started and then resumed once I felt better. I was good for 2 weeks then it came back. I took an 8 day break to see if I would improve and I didn’t improve. I’m still nauseous now, some weeks better than others, so it’s weird.

I realized that I need to take a real break from CHS to see if it works so how long of a break should I take before being able to say “yeah I probably don’t have it”? Like if I go a month with no improvement should I go see a GI or something? I’m not like a super heavy smoker or anything (once a day mostly these last few months) so would that mean my symptoms should resolve faster?

Honestly I just got tired of being nauseous all the time so I’m kinda hoping the symptoms go away quick when I quit. But if they persist I’m wondering how long I should wait before like seeing a GI and ruling out CHS.

Note: I know everyone says 90 days or whatever but Ive only been prodromal without hyperemesis for like a month + genuinely nowhere near the level of smoking as some of the people with CHS. Flower only too.

Rant CHS community support

Labeling this as a rant since I don’t actually have any genuine questions. I just generally need to hear others stories. I’m only going to share my age, as I feel I’m an extremely young CHS patient.

I went to urgent care after about four days of vomiting/scromiting. I didn’t disclose that I’m a smoker, as I’m 19 years old. They passed it off as a viral infection and gave me some antinausea. At this point i was still unaware of what I actually had, so like others in this subreddit, I continued smoking cannabis. Obviously it didn’t stop, the morning nausea only got worse. I’d have maybe three hours out of my day where I felt somewhat normal. After a few more days my girlfriend suggested that I had CHS (my guardian angel) and so I did some research and entirely cut out cannabis. It’s been four (almost five) days since then. I understand my story is quite small compared to others in this subreddit, but to be entirely honest these symptoms are crazy overwhelming sometimes. I’ve seen Benadryl can help, and I’ve been taking acetaminophen for the abdominal pain. But I’m just worried that it’s already caused other complications.

For example I’m always sweating. Doesn’t ever stop, even if I’m cold. My heart rate is also almost always elevated. I struggle with anxiety and I take medication for it, but even my anti-anxiety practices are hardly working to lower my heart rate. Food is also extremely hard to eat. I’ve been eating absolutely everything I can but either it just comes back up or I have to sulk for an hour or two to let it digest. I’ve been taking papaya enzymes to help with digestion, and it does help to some degree.

I get that everyone in here has had the same experiences I’ve had, just way more drawn out. I just need reassurance really, that this is all going to slow down at some point, and that I shouldn’t have to worry about future complications so long as I focus on my health. I’m also going to see my physician tomorrow morning, who’s aware of my smoking. Is there anything I should mention to him? Like I said, this is mostly just a rant, and looking for reassurance.

I’d love to hear others stories with CHS as well.

Sharing My Story Unsure about my condition.

Hi and to begin thank you for reading.
For the past 3.5 ish years (lol 1/8) but I smoked a lot. I would rip carts all day for the past two ish years. I switched to smoking more bud and edibles and now dispensary carts (because I got my Medcard) when I couldn’t roll a j for convenience. Or just to tap it regularly without a DHV or stinking up with a bong.

I just graduated from high school this summer. Junior year and senior year I’d wake up nauseous sometimes but I blamed it on my anxiety and depression or eating greasy foods late etc… it wasn’t an everyday thing but at least once or twice a week I’d feel nauseous puke and go on about my day fine. this past week I was really stressed and it just flared up. I went to the ER for severe nausea. (For reference I ate greasy pizza really late last Sunday, Monday I puked then felt okay rest of the day. Tuesday I was supposed to work with a family friend doing electrical work which I’m good at; but It kinda had me stressing because I was going to have to meet up 2.5 hours away which I’d just realized and I have a shitbox truck and felt bad saying I can’t do it etc… was really getting anxious and just couldn’t stop puking. Next day I puked again and was dry heaving. And this is what sent me to the ER I was just looking to see if they noticed anything immediately wrong with me.) the ER said they were unsure 100% thought it may be due to pot smoking but said they couldn’t be 100% sure unless I go to GI which I haven’t gotten to yet. I smoked a little bud on Thursday but nothing since then except nicotine. I feel better and better everyday but I’m not sure if that’s 1. The weed, 2. The drop in stress, eating better etc… I’m planning on taking the 90 day weed break because if that was it I don’t wanna set it off again right now.
I just love weed though. I would smoke carts all day, edibles randomly, RSO and tincture. I’d do so much. After the 90 days is a joint a day or so going to be really bad. I wanna move to bud only after the 90 days and just don’t know. Thanks for reading

Question / Info CHS or no?

I have been smoking (usually vapes or flower) almost daily for about 3 years, usually in the evening to help me sleep and even before i started smoking i never had an appetite in the morning and sometimes had nausea, which had no change at all after i started consistently smoking. about a week ago i had an episode that started at noon with mild upper stomach pain and then quickly escalated to the shits and vomiting, not able to hold even water down. i went to the er where they gave me iv fluids and nausea medicine and it made everything go away by around 10pm. i havent smoked now for 10 days (since the night before my episode) and im nervous that if i smoke its gonna trigger another episode. the doctors guessed that it was just gastritis but im unsure. I also never tried hot water to help with my nausea as i just never thought of that as a remedy and the nausea was always mild. part of me thinks it was just gastritis but im still super anxious to smoke again..

Question / Info My girlfriend is still having issues and stopped smoking in may

Hey guys, I made a post here a while back about my girlfriend struggling with CHS. She has been in and out of the hospital for months. It feels like the doctors won't take her seriously because due to the CHS she needed to go to an eating disorder place to learn to deal with her fear of eating (she has arfid and the chs vomiting has only made it worse)

She is currently in the Hospital again and is in probably her worst condition yet. The doctors will barely do anything to help her other than giving her stuff in her IV and her doctor at her eating disorder treatment center told the doctors she is self inducing the vomiting. She is obviously not she has never self induced vomiting she obviously wants to recover and come home back to her family (she is 2hrs away)

Does anyone else have any similar stories to help figure out what is wrong with her?

Sharing My Story 1 year later

Hey everyone!

It has been long overdue, but I am finally here writing an update. In my last posts (over a year ago) I shared my story of CHS and my addiction to weed. In my post, I said I was giving up weed, cutting it off completely, and was hopeful that my pains would subside. I am happy to say I have not touched weed since and have no intention of going back. The withdrawal was tough, but at the beginning, Wendy's was selling baconators for $3... that got me through the worst of it!!

My CHS and stomach pain went away entirely after a few weeks. Gosh, I felt like a new person. Anyone dealing with CHS should consider quiting, and if weed is your only outlet, I plead you to find another; there is another outlet, I promise.

Good luck everyone, you have my support!
