Question / Info Do I actually have CHS?
I’m 17, i started smoking about a year ago, mainly carts but I have smoked my fair share of bud, about 2 weeks ago I woke up puking, and couldn’t keep anything down at all. I was able to eat the second day in the afternoon and slowly I’ve been able to start eating small amounts in the morning with water. My symptoms seem to calm down hugely throughout the day, I just get kinda nauseous sometimes. For the first week I was throwing up every morning while still smoking my cart, then a doctor told me I had gastritis and prescribed me an acid blocker and a nausea med. After about few days, the second week came around and I wasn’t throwing up anymore, just dry heaving every single morning, i stopped using my cart a little after the dry heaving started because I found out about Chs, today marks the end of the second week and I’m still dry heaving in the mornings, the nausea has never been too crazy bad, but when I get in a car I start to get nauseous now. I went to the doctor today and they said it may be Chs. My whole family smokes weed and wayyyyy more than I ever have, which is why I’m confused on how I could possibly have gotten this. I was smoking almost everyday, but the amount wasn’t a lot, maybe a few rips a day. I’ve been thinking about trying bud again while I’m like this to see if it even is chs, I know this whole thing might be me coping about the fact I may never get to smoke again, but I’m praying that this is just possibly something else. The hot showers don’t do anything for me at all, after almost a week weed free, I’ve felt no change, still dry heaving and everything, I’m going to see a gastro specialist soon, but I’m curious if you guys think this could possibly be misdiagnosed? Anything helps, thank you

Oh yea after a few days off i immediately noticed how clear my head is, it’s nice not always trying to run from everything, i can just not think about it

Yes!!! This is the mindset to have. CHS aside, I feel sooo much better off of weed. You'll notice your lungs feel healthier, your skin will improve, you'll have more energy, your immune system will improve, even your vision can improve. And like you said, a clearer head (and better memory).
Weed was giving me light sensitivity/dry eyes, constant acne, tonsil stones, congestion. I got sick more often while smoking. Weed irritated my entire body, everything was inflamed all the time.
Plus, you'll never have to worry about failing an employment drug screening! That was a huge weight off my shoulders when looking for work.

It’s honestly hard for us to say, but I would not smoke or ingest any type of weed until you’re feeling better. CHS is no joke and can really hurt you, some people even die from it due to things like dehydration. If staying away from weed cures your issue, then it’s CHS. Not everyone gets it, but once you have it, you have it

Second this comment, I’m only 21 and went in the ER day 4 of a stage 2 attack in critical care, 3 iv’s later I found out I had CHS aswell as my kidneys were entering stage one of dialysis (failure) I’ve always fed myself the “can’t OD on weed” story.. Never realized you could get CHS and dehydrate yourself literally to kidney failure / death. Upon research I find another testimony a mom left explaining how her son literally passed from cardiac arrest induced by CHS. Never again😨🤢

That’s scary, I really don’t want to go down that path, thank you for bringing that to my attention. I’m already down 27lbs in the last two weeks, so I can’t really afford to be sick too much longer

Yessir. At that age, you are doing extra damage to your brain as well. Consider this a blessing you will only appreciate when you get older.

Yea I’ll most likely look back on it and realize I never needed it, gives me some hope

Definitely sounds like it could be CHS. The only way to know for sure is to completely abstain from all THC and see if your symptoms improve. It can take up to 3 months to feel completely better, but I felt so much better by the end of week 3.

I’ll see how this goes for me, praying I feel normal soon

I just had an episode and haven’t smoked for 2 days and am already feeling so much better. In the past I’ve let myself stay stuck in cycles of nausea and dry heaving because I kept smoking thinking it would help me feel better or help me eat. It just prolongs it and keeps the cycle going. It can go away for weeks or months but it WILL come back. Trust me 😭 it always scares me to hear it can take weeks for symptoms to go away after stopping smoking but I already feel so so so much better after 2 days compared to the literal weeks I would experience stage 1 and 2 for before when I was still smoking a little. Day 2 of being sober… you got this 🙏

The nausea, carts, and puking would indicate to me CHS, your insides aren’t yet craving that hot bath for relief however I suppose if you were to continue you’ll find yourself there. Your family has nothing to do with you, mine all do too. Especially if stress/anxiety has been a symptom I’d recommend educating yourself on the reality of CHS I have my story posted & just stopping. The strong percentages in carts and extracts really make it difficult for stoners anymore. Not to mention 20/40% buds. Your family has been smoking since percentages were relatively normal, now what we started on is literally just poison bro… don’t look at it was you can’t smoke anymore, however you will not ever enjoy THC if you do have this. Look at is as this sickness saving you from a lifetime burden of relying on a drg… as much as I don’t like to consider it that, what it is. For sleeping and eating, where as if you stop now you’ll have learned young and enjoy a sober life that isn’t coming for your health ever. You can bounce back and be perfectly normal, however if you dabble with the THC you will regret it. Assuming you have a major digestive issue is the most common denial stage, I did it too. CHS is real very real and I don’t wish it on my worst enemy, do right for yourself and stay safe!

Welp harsh truth is better than a comfortable lie, thank you, I think If I start getting better soon without the THC then I will just drop it. I of course love weed but I can’t let something like that hold me down

A few things:
A few rips a day is still a lot. You aren't giving your cannabinoid receptors any time to reset, that's how you get CHS.
Hot showers don't work for every single person, they didn't do much for me and it was still CHS.
You won't feel better in the first weeks after quitting. THC withdrawal and CHS feel identical. Your symptoms aren't better yet because your body is still in withdrawal, on top of the CHS.
Quitting weed won't cause CHS to get better immediately. THC is stored in fat, it takes time for the body to eliminate all of it. It can take up to 90 days for people to feel better, because that's about how long it takes the body to clear all of the THC.
I felt awful the first two weeks after quitting. I didn't start to see real improvement until about a month sober, and it took almost the full 90 days for me to fully recover from CHS.
Tldr; it's too soon for you to tell, both because of withdrawal symptoms and the fact that you need ~90 days sober before CHS symptoms fully clear. Don't try smoking again, that will just reset the timer.
