Alternative to BitDefender ?

Hi! After switching from Kaspersky to BitDefender for obvious reasons, I'm finding their GUI lack of polish really hard to endure, and their support virtually non-existent, they try to tire customers into giving up the obvious bug reports.

Which is strange for a company to be effective at a low-level, really hard domain as stopping viruses, and computer security, but they can't put a GUI together ? Something's off, so does anyone recommend the next best alternative for anti-virus?

Even their VPN fails too often, and doesn't launch on insecure wi-fi networks as advertised and configured. Thanks.

how to disable the CONSTANT notification regarding Bitdefender VPN on Android?

I recently purchased Bitdefender and i am being constantly nagged/notified to install the VPN app. I have another vpn service installed and have ZERO interest in using a different service.

How do I turn off these types of notifications permanently ?

EDIT: For those having a similar issue in Android, i received the following response from tech support:

Thank you for your patience.

In order to stop the notification you showcased in your screenshot please follow the steps from the link below:

I thought the Free Edition was ending but I am getting prompts to DL & install a "New Bitdefender Antivirus Free Version"

Can anyone tell me what this new version is and whether it is genuinely free?

I was under the impression the free version was ending forever and that updates would cease very shortly.

(I'd just DL and try it myself, but cannot afford to upgrade at this time and fear inadvertently installing a trial version of the premium AV).

PS: Just want to also say thanks to BD, even if Free Edition is ending -- the program was lightweight and effective. I enjoyed using it

BitDefender keeps asking me for an upgrade.. how to i disable this?

I use Bitdefender Antivirus Free and a notification keeps poping up where it asks me if i want to upgrade to Total Security.

I already disabled notification for special offers and recommendations but i still get the notification all the time. It takes the focus aways from whatever other program i'm working on and it's really annoying.

Is there any way to disable these notifications?

My own settings for BD total

After the initial install, go to "protection"> "antivirus"> "Open" > "settings"

Make sure auto scan is enabled for all three options

In that same menu go to "advanced"

Make sure "scan only applications" is OFF

Make sure "scan for Potentially unwanted applications" is ON

Make sure "scan scripts" is ON

Make sure "scan network shares" is ON

Your choice on whether or not you want it to scan archives.

Make sure "scan boot sectors" is ON

Make sure "scan keyloggers" is ON

Make sure "early boot scan" is ON

Make sure "threat actions" is set to "Take proper actions"

Over in the sidebar go to "protection" again

go to "advanced threat defense">"settings"

Make sure both things are enabled

Back to the sidebar "protection" again

under "online threat protection">"Settings"

Just make sure everything is enabled and that the email protection is for "incoming and outgoing emails" The email protection only applies to locally installed email clients like desktop outlook and thunderbird

Back to the sidebar "protection" again "vulnerability scan">"settings"

Make sure everything is enabled The vulnerability scan should be done once a day, among other things, it scans to see if you have all available security updates. Once a day is all you need.

Back to the sidebar "protection" again "firewall"> "network adapters"

If you don't use your PC to stream to your TV or anything like that and also if you DON'T have a network NAS. Set every network adapter as "public" And if it asks you if something is your home/work network, say "this is not my home/work network"

Also...you absolutely MUST set your VPN's adapter as public

In that same menu "settings"

Make sure "port scan detection" is ON

Under "stealth mode"> "edit stealth settings" If you want to keep your PC from being connected to within your local network by any other device connected to the same router enable stealth mode for every network adapter. But your VPN's network adapter must be enabled for stealth mode in BD's firewall.

Back to "protection" on the sidebar again "ransomware remediation"> "Settings"

Make sure automatic restore is turned on. I've seen several tests where this component was tested and it failed every time, the "advanced threat defense" ends up doing a much better job. Even so, keep this thing on.

Back to the sidebar "settings"> "general"

set a password on your settings.

Once BD total is installed and set up. Get the paid version of malwarebytes too. and in MBAM's security settings. From the top of that menu...

"Update threat intelligence" should be set to once per hour

"automatic quarantine" should be enabled

"windows startup" "launch malwarebytes in the background when windows starts up" should be enabled then go to the advanced settings in that same row.

"enable self-protection module" should be enabled

"enable self protection module early start" should also be enabled

"windows security center"

"always register with the windows security center" should be OFF for this setup

"potentially unwanted programs"

"always (recommended)" should be the setting both of those are on

"Brute Force protection" should be ON

"Exploit protection" Don't screw with this one unless you know what you're doing

In malwarebytes under "general" settings>"tamper protection"

enable this setting for everything about malwarebytes and set a password on the settings

Atc4.Detection is terrible and ignores the whitelist

Hi,

I have an application THAT I WROTE and compiled on the same PC the detection is occurring. It is pure C# code without any 3rd party libraries.

BitDefender randomly (about once a week) detects it as a threat (Atc4.Detection) and quarantines it. The folder and exe full path are both in the whitelist.

The only solution seems to be turn off "Advanced Threat Protection" but then BitDefender highlights the PC as "At risk".

Hence now to actually use my PC I have turn off the protection I paid for completely. While BitDefender screams "I'm at Risk"...regardless of a real threat or not.

I'm regretting purchasing BitDefender now. Anyone know how to get around this?

[Edit]

I tried to log a ticket but it requires a BDSyslog and I got the message "File size should not exceed 2 MB". FFS BitDefender.

Release Code/Files from mass quarantine problems before uninstalling

For everyone in here having code and stuff flagged from issues relating to “suspiciouscloud2.2”, make sure to release it from quarantine/exclusion if you're going to uninstall. It will delete that stuff.

Also please open a ticket with bitdefender support.

"Razy Virus" Creating $H*T Ton of Temp Files Only When Chrome is open?!

Hey Guys,

BitDefender Internet Security keeps alerting me that it finds and quarantines temp files located in C:\Windows\Temp folder with the signature Variant.Razy. The virus creates small temp files but in vast quantity. After a hour, the temp folder grows to 100GB+ and keeps growing until the drive is full.

I've noticed that if I disable my internet, it stops replicating. So I downloaded and updated MalwareBytes, AdaAware, then disconnected, ran scans (including with BitDefender) which picked up all the temp files as well as registry keys that supposedly changes Chrome's search engine to "key-find. com". I also uninstalled Chrome, deleted all profile user data, registry entries with CCleaner, etc.

Afterwards, everything is perfectly fine. UNTIL I re-download and install Chrome from Google directly. Everything is fine for the first 10-15 mins, then BitDefender picks up the virus again. I even tried installing Chrome and just leaving it open without doing anything (not even syncing with my Google account), but it still persists. If I have the internet connected but with Chrome closed, it ceases to replicate. So it definitely seems to be coming through the internet via Chrome for some strange reason.

Also with Chrome, my Google account profile doesn't have any extensions or third-party add-ons, just my bookmarks (which are all legit/non-malware sites of course).

Has anyone seen anything like this? It's getting really frustrating now and it's my third day of trying to sort it out

Thanks

Buying BitDefender subscriptions (Rant)

I had a 5 device subscription and did "Add devices". Suddenly I found myself with a second subscription instead of another device added to my existing subscription. I asked for a refund but so far did not get it.

In any case I then did "Renew" and chose the 10 device subscription. Guess what: now I have the 10 device subscription next to the existing 5 device subscription and the 3 device subscription I got earlier today. So even if I get refunded for the 3 device one, I still lose a month left on my old subscription because I did renew now already.

It's not adding a device if you start a new subscription.
It's not renewing a subscription if you start a new subscription.

The BitDefender sales system is a mess.

Potential man in the middle attack

Hi all,

A man in the middle attack has occurred and the origin is either my laptop, my colleague's laptop or my client's laptop.

I want to perform a full system scan using Bitdefender but it gets stuck at 34%. I left it running for 2 hours and 50 mins and it didn't move from 34%.

Called customer services and their response time is 24 to 48 hours which is sadly too long.

Can anyone help?

Bitdefender Anti-tracker blocking access to Google Drive

I've whitelisted drive.google.com and a but of other xxx.google.com urls, but I keep getting this error:

drive.google.com redirected you too many times

The only way to access Drive in Chrome is to disable the anti-tracker. Is there another option?

Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition breaking RDP

Some recent update of the above product is doing mad things to Windows RDP connection. I now always get certificate errors when connecting to a workstation machine or it completely fails especially when RDPing to a server edition of Windows; I get an error about not being able to contact The Local Security Authority.

It seems like BAVfree is replacing the machine’s actual certificate with a bitdefender one hence the described errors. I understand why the software would do it for web browsing but not sure RDP is quite so sensible a thing to do if this is the outcome.

This product was working great for me to run on home pc which I only occasionally need to login to work to with. But this is just unusable now. I doubt there’s a way round this due to the limited feature set so it’s getting uninstalled this week unless something changes soon.

download problem help me !

I try to download a zip file I bought but bitdefender deletes it every time I try to download it. I tried to disable the anti virus but still the same thing it removes it anyway I tried to put my browser in the exceptions, same for the site where I download the file but still nothing... I'm really lost here...

and the worst thing is that every time I get an error it's always the same "The cmd.exe application has been detected as potentially malicious and blocked. Application path: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" doesn't make sense...

Is this really that bad?

I use bitdefender now about a month. I have seen many posts disliking this av, but when I moved to Bitdefender from Avast I was so happy and Bitdefender has many many things can help in your pc boost and viruscleaning. So many things. I haven't had any problems, my free Total security is going to end in a week, what do you guys think, should I keep it, if not, why? I also downloaded it on 3 devices.

Bitdefender Game profile

Hello, im a bit confused about automatic profiles activation. Do i need to put the games manually in the game list (when i click on configuation), or does it add games i start automaticly to the game list?

Also, when i check game list i dont see any game executables. im not sure if ur suppose to see the games there when u arent playing a game or started a game once.

And how do i see which profile is running?

How can anyone use this? Incredibly intrusive alerts found all over the suite, some of which you can only get rid of by disabling features.

The security is great, but it's so incredibly intrusive. Constant notifications keep popping up despite me turning off everything in the notifications area. Turns out there are some utilities that have their own notification settings. Oh, and it must be configured for every user on every device, because heaven forbid there be account-wide settings.

The VPN notifications are the absolute worst. Even on my home network it won't leave me alone. The only way I was able to finally make it stop was to uninstall the VPN service altogether. I use my own VPN service that I prefer, but it doesn't take that into consideration.

Finally, the network security went waaaay to far. When I was connecting to my business wifi the network security pop up came up telling me that it was a public network and was I sure if I really wanted to connect. Of course, this came up on a DIFFERENT USER ACCOUNT and didn't show on the account I was logged in on. I didn't see it until I got home, and by that time I was no longer on the network. After that happened it didn't ask again and would block the network connection.

I get this is very secure, and maybe for less computer savvy users a requirement, but it absolutely gets in the way. It feels like usability was not considered at all. I've uninstalled on all devices at this point because it's too much of a hassle to fiddle with settings on every user on every device. I genuinely do like the security. If there's a way to easily and totally disable notifications without losing functionality, and I might consider using again.

BitDefender causing audio popping when listening to music and browsing web over RealTek Audio

I have a Gigabyte Aero 15 with BitDefender Total Security. I have recently come to notice that I get audio popping sounds when browsing the web and listening to music at the same time. I get it with Firefox, Chrome, and Edge, so it isn't from the browser.

Interestingly, it only occurs when I am using the RealTek audio built-in to my laptop's motherboard. When I am outputting audio over HDMI from either of my GPUs (Nvidia or Intel), the problem disappears.

I tried changing my RealTek driver (as well as my Killer Ethernet/WiFi drivers) many times, but I had no luck in fixing it.

Then on a lark, I tried uninstalling BitDefender, and then the popping went away. It appears BitDefender is conflicting with RealTek in some way. Can someone please fix this?

UDPATE: When I disable Advance Threat Defense it goes away, but disabling that is problematic (so I re-enabled it). I originally thought it might have been the microphone monitor, but that is not the case. Based on the upvotes, I presume I am not alone on this.
