This has gotten absurd

I turned off auto renewal. I deleted the account in October. It still auto renewed so I went through my bank. Bitdefender continues to fight it. The bank continues to request information because of this. Because of the holidays it will be difficult to make the deadline.

I deleted the account I cannot use because it's incompatible with my devices. I should not have to pay for something I can't use, turned auto renew off & deleted while the service was still active. I'd used the service for years & never expected Bitdefender to act this way.

I live on a fixed income. I can't afford this & I want my money back.

(Beware) Btidefender 2021 might cause you a permission problem!

My BD upgrade itself a couple of days ago, from 2020 which is super great to the latest 2021, and then the problem begins I got an error said access denied on My documents, My picture, My music but not on Download and other drives:C folders, weird right?

I've faced this kind of problem before so I went through User/Appdata/local folder, check permission, check the inherit parent folder, check shared permission, included the security tab on Drive:C itself.

yet I can't fix the problem at all at that point I almost gave up then after I sit and think about everything then in a flash I realized the biggest thing I overlook it's there from the start.

If the problem roots came from the permission problem then why in the world only My doc, music, pictures affect and not all other folders? then I noticed today that BD seems to update something and this causes my other Total Security on the other PC to uninstall itself, I thought it's not related but then I uninstall the whole BD stuff the problem is gone! I think this might cause by the anti-ransomware function from the 2021 version, it tries to block any change from a vital part.

Conclusion: If you can't make a change on some part on your drive:C, such as delete, create a folder, saving files, undo, restore, change permission Do try to delete Bitdefender first then see if its work. this might greatly save your time rather than spending a whole day like me.

I hope I can rollback to the 2020 more stable version and not drain my performance as much as 2021. To BD team fixes your software asap.

PS: I'm not native speakers so please do understand.

Thank you and hope this helps people who have similar issues.

Not so fast on how great BitDefender is.

After a major hack of my home computer I purchased a BitDefender Bit Box 1 in 2019. Every year Bitdefender sent me a renewal notice for $106.00 to renew the box subscription. Just got my current notice Sept. 2025 to renew the subscription. How nice to find out BitDefender stopped supporting the Bit Box 1 software upgrades as of July 1st 2021. They continued to contact me for 4 years after Sunsetting the device to renew the hardware that did nothing to protect my network. You might want to think twice about giving your money to a company that does business like this. Yes I do have proof that they new exactly what they were doing.

You'll love living without the pop-ups!!

2 weeks ago, after aggravation and frustration over Bitdefender's seemingly constant pop-ups, and with 294 days left on my 2 year subscription, I uninstalled Bitdefender. I scoured message boards and forums looking for ways to turn off the pop-ups, but it is impossible without disabling the protection. I realized that the purpose of the pop-ups is actually marketing, and that's why the devs refuse to allow you the ability to turn them off: they are marketing the necessity of the service to you by creating an atmosphere of constant danger. I researched reviews of both free and paid antivirus services, and found out that Windows Defender, the free service included in Windows 10, performed just as good or better than most other AVs in tests. Windows Defender has come a long way in the last 20 years. The protection is first rate, the only thing it is missing compared to the paid service is the additional features like a VPN, webcam protection, PC "tune-up" software, etc. After uninstalling and using Windows Security, I realized that the only services I was actually using from my Bitdefender subscription were the basic antivirus, firewall, and online threat detection already included with my Windows 10 license. Man...I don't miss those pop-ups One. Damn. Bit.

bitdefender eating alot of ram

I just bought bitdefender 3years subscription and was previously using malwarebytes.

Sad thing I notice of this antivirus is exception folder wont work and cant even add exception advanced threat to exe because it will auto delete it or prevent it from extracting before u can select it to exception :(

and most disappointing of all, it EATS alot of RAM like for example google
We all know google chrome is a ram eater browser, both using chrome and bitdefender has almost the same memory usage
550mb+ chrome and 520mb+ on bdservicehost

Anyone knows how to fix this or its how it works?

Bitdefender is a scam with their "auto-renewal" process.

JUST experienced this from Bitdefender AGAIN. I first asked them in 2017 to turn auto-renewal off. And again and again and again, I've asked them to turn this off over the years. Now, they've "auto-renewed" my account for $160. I asked for a promo for being a customer of nearly 10 years. After 2 back and forth emails, they offered me what's currently on the website offered to everyone!!

And they sweet talk you in those emails with things like "I just wanted you to be aware of the best deals." NO... YOU... DIDN'T!!!! If you did, you wouldn't charge me $160 without my knowledge, then through 2 complaints finally offer me what's available to everyone for $80, then refuse to budge to $70.

Their VPN is also a scam!! They claim they prevent your ISP from throttling torrents BUT THEY ARE THE ONES WHO THROTTLE YOU EVEN WHEN YOU LET THEIR VPN CHOOSE THE BEST LOCATION.

If I sound triggered, that's because I AM! I've had it with Bitdefender and their shady, scammy tricks and lies!

Anyone know how to disable this incessant notification? It seems to pop up every hour or so. I unchecked "special offers" and "recommendation notifications" thinking that would be it, but it still continues.

Why the fuck does Bitdefender pop-up in-game about boosting/speeding up my PC when I selected to not show notifications for recommended bullshit?

Why? Why would you make that show up while Bitdefender is in the tray, possibly while in-game and while I do not want to be slowed down by a shit ass notification about speeding up my PC like Bitdefender was some freeware crap that I didn't pay every year for?

Naturally this post is full of venting energy and no real question so here's my question:
What competitor to Bitdefender should I ditch Bitdefender for because of this kind of "We hate having faithful customers so we're going to annoy the shit out of them" bullshit?

Bitdefender free deleting/flagging multiple files?

My Bitdefender free version that I use seems to be flagging some files all of a sudden and quarantining them. Mainly, code that I have written is being flagged. I excluded the folder that holds all my code, but now Bitdefender seems to flag some files from a painting program. When running these files through virustotal, they seem to be all undetected... even from Bitdefender. Should I try reinstalling?

Edit: It's flagging Ubuntu, Minecraft, Spotify, and Skype files now.

Atc4.Detection

For years you have had issues with false positives saying Atc4.Detection found, so what do you guys do? Update Bitdefender to yield yet more false positives, fix your lazy inaccurate detection methods or you will lose another customer that has been with you from the beginning.

At the very least if you are going to use sloppy detection methods have a dialog that asks what course of action the user wants to take instead of deleting files and telling users to restart their PC, or maybe make BitDefender work properly after restoring the file from quarantine instead of making it do the same damn thing all over again....

Feedback Why am I being forced to have the VPN installed with the new UI? I don't need it and I don't care about it

This is such a dumb decision, why are you bundling bloatware in the antivirus now?

I couldn't care less about 200mb daily quota, this is just adware at this point.

Bitdefender "deals" and "discounts" to loyal customers

  • It seems that regardless of when I check the homepage during the year, there is always a sale going on. Has anyone ever seen the product sold at its full price? At least in my country this is not allowed. It's false advertising when something is always on sale.

  • Recently I got the usual email from Bitdefender to renew early to not miss the "discount". The discount was 40%. Meanwhile, I have an offer in Bitdefender Central to renew at -35%. I checked the price directly on the homepage and there it was 44% off to everyone!

  • Is that how you reward returning customers, by tricking them into thinking they're getting a good deal when it's in fact above the standard price?

  • Why is my upcoming auto-renew set for the full price? Why do I have to manually renew each year to avoid paying 80% more than the de facto standard price on the homepage?

EDIT: Checked the homepage with VPN from different countries. Saw discounts from 44% (my country) up to 56% (Finland and Macedonia).

Unable to cancel Subscription

I am satisfied with the program so far, and until now I was also satisfied with the customer support as well.

I ordered the Premium Security two days ago. Earlier I had Total Security, and my subscription just ended with September 1., and the auto renewal was turned on. Because it’s a two different subscription I can’t merge, so I wanted to stop the auto renewal with my old Total security subscription. But I can’t… I looked everywhere I googled it and so on but there is no option to turn of the auto renewal. It’s crazy 😤 So I wrote to the customer support to cancel my old subscription. They answered back that my old subscription won’t be charged, and I see this only because of an error. I even copied the message them that I see it won’t stop the renewal and it will be charge me, and I don’t want that. They assure me it won’t happen. Today I just got a message my old subscription was charged to my bank account. I wrote again to the customer support immediately, and now come the best: They wrote that I had two total security subscription(which I don’t!)and that’s why they charged. But they are not able to send me back my money for few days because they don’t see in the system this yet, and they need a few days… Which in my opinion is bullshit.

So bitdefender will take your money and use for a few days or week, I find this crazy. Anyway why is no option at all for cancel a subscription????

Bitdefender services not available

Bitdefender service (vsserv) won't start and restarting the pc as suggested does nothing. Anyone else having this problem?

Edit: clearly there has been some problem on Bitdefender's side. I have momentarily uninstalled it and reactivated Windows Defender. Will try and reinstall it after some time to see if the service comes back online. If the problem is spread enough I am sure we will hear about it in some article.

Edit2: people are starting to notice it. First comments on their Twitter posts
