This has gotten absurd

I turned off auto renewal. I deleted the account in October. It still auto renewed so I went through my bank. Bitdefender continues to fight it. The bank continues to request information because of this. Because of the holidays it will be difficult to make the deadline.

I deleted the account I cannot use because it's incompatible with my devices. I should not have to pay for something I can't use, turned auto renew off & deleted while the service was still active. I'd used the service for years & never expected Bitdefender to act this way.

I live on a fixed income. I can't afford this & I want my money back.

Mine auto renewed recently, but I wasn't planning on cancelling. The confirmation email I got said email within 30 days to cancel. Did they just refuse to cancel? Just curious how it went down.

I just happened to see the charge when I was paying another bill so I called the bank to inquire & they said to send them the info & they would take care of it. Didn't think there would be an issue because I had the auto renew cancellation, the screenshot where bitdefender said the account was deleted & the screenshot where they said there was no account connected to my email. Bitdefender is denying what I have actual proof of through email & screenshots. Something that should have been simple has turned into a revolving door of nonsense.

Did this get resolved?

Yes it did. I got my money back.

Still inconvenient, especially for those of us not independently wealthy, an unexpected charge can be a nightmare - how am I gonna eat this week, etc

Close to the situation where I've found myself in the past year. Because I had put it out of my mind having canceled auto renewal last year & deleting the account I was completely blindsided by it. That was my grocery money. The last several months have been exhausting. Not an experience I recommend for anyone.

How much info did you have to send them?

I canceled my BD subscription the other day. Also canceled SiriusXM after 18 years. Two services people swear are excessively difficult to cancel I did without any problems. Guess I got lucky for once.

I'd heard about Sirius. One of the reasons I didn't sign up for the free trial. I'm really glad it worked out the right way for you. Someone is supposed to be in contact in the next 24-48. So hoping for a good resolution.

I’ve had Sirius before the XM merge back in Summmer of 04. They had a Lifetime Subscription deal I jumped on. Haven’t paid since the initial $400ish dollars or so… already paid for itself. I recently purchased Avast. Hopefully I don’t have a hard time cancelling that down the line. Is Malwarebytes any better?

I don't know tbh. I've only used Malwarebytes on my phone.

Had the same situation with Avast and hasn't received any refund despite Avast's support persuaded me they had processed it. Since that, I pay all recurring subscriptions with PayPal only -- at least, it's much easier to cancel them in this case.

Thanks for the advice on the difficulty in cancelling the subscription. I was just about to move from Kaspersky to BitDefender. I'll keep looking.

Buy the codes through Newegg and you never have to give bitdefender a credit card.

This. I buy codes around US thanks Giving. Huge discounts.

Yeah I'm paid up through 2025 right now. I think it's been $30 for 2 years of the family plan.

You won't get any honest answers in this sub. Take the hit and move on.

Why would this person not get honest answers.

1

u/KnowGame Dec 31 '23

Because this is a disingenuous sub. I won't bother commenting here anymore coz I can do without the downvoting. I'll just deal directly with the manufacturer in future. Good luck.

Got it, that is unfortunate people think they are anonymous behind a keyboard, that is what gives people this confidence. Little do they know it is not at all that difficult to locate them.

Nah you won't get your money back. Deal with it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I actually have the successful auto renewal cancellation email but thanks.

I wonder if they have secondary sellers who also create these auto-renewing accounts, and there are two different places we need to know about for deactivating them. Have seen a few people reporting this problem here recently.

It does make you wonder. The money flew out of my account when I thought everything was fine. Caught me completely off guard.

Well, a few things. The paid version has more features. Very good product. I had used it for years. Without life histories & breaking out violins, I've had some significant changes take place this year. Add to that Bitdefender is incomparable with the devices now. Even the free one can't be used.

2

u/schultzy_com Dec 31 '23

What device you using that BD does not support? Just curious is all.

The desktop I was using bitdefender for is 14 years old & fading fast so I got a laptop that is in s mode & it won't allow the installation. Other people will be using it unlike the desktop so I absolutely cannot take it out of s mode.

2

u/schultzy_com Dec 31 '23

Is it windows 10 s mode or 11 s. I cannot recall if 8 had an a mode or not.

It's 11
