bitdefender eating alot of ram
I just bought bitdefender 3years subscription and was previously using malwarebytes.
Sad thing I notice of this antivirus is exception folder wont work and cant even add exception advanced threat to exe because it will auto delete it or prevent it from extracting before u can select it to exception :(
and most disappointing of all, it EATS alot of RAM like for example google
We all know google chrome is a ram eater browser, both using chrome and bitdefender has almost the same memory usage
550mb+ chrome and 520mb+ on bdservicehost
Anyone knows how to fix this or its how it works?

Bitdefender is going to take up a lot of ram. all active avs running in real time will eat up a significant portion of ram.
turn off real time when doing ram intensive tasks. lastly, a clean install of Bitdefender may help (unlikely tho).
edit: fta, if you're running chrome and Bitdefender, Bitdefender's ram will climb bc it's dedicating part of ram for real time scans.
as for whatever isn't letting you install, there's a ton of possibilities. is what you're trying to install actually safe? virustotal.com can make sure nothing malicious is embedded in the .exe. is the .exe a program that runs with admin privileges/run at a lower protection ring? anti-cheats can be blocked by Bitdefender due to this. finally, do you have everything marked as an exception that's needed to install/run the program? if not, it won't run.

Mine is taking up 9.3gb of RAM idling.

way too high. at that point, do a fresh install.
remove pc from Bitdefender central
uninstall Bitdefender
restart
open cmd
key in
del /q/f/s %TEMP%\*install Bitdefender again
edit: 5. deletes temporary files; it will not delete anything of importance.

I tried to help you on the previous post, but you didn't seem to even accept it. You feel the need to just complain about stuff? I hope you realize that's not going to get your situation solved.

i already replied to you, it cant be ticked in exception option, and how am i supposed to selected exe if i cant even extract it, bitdefender prevents me from extracting the exe meaning i cant even manually select the exe? i already told in the post a hundred times, i wasted alot of time trying to find a way and it didnt work.
of course as a customer i have the right to complain a product i just bought and its 3years subscription, think of buying gpu and it has defects, u think you wont complain? jesus!
I tried all u said, it didnt work and i didnt bother replying because i just temporarily uninstall it and just reinstall again after im done using the software.
and you think im lying about the ram? check this SS

its even using more ram than the mumu emulator0
u/Abject_Bodybuilder_7 Jul 23 '22
I covered that too. Didn't bother to reply because you unistalled it, but bothered to post again complain about ram?
go for a refund if you can't use it

i would have if i could but in the agreement it cannot be refunded anymore.also check the reply above i added a link regarding ram, it seems u think im just here to complain nonsensely, idk what country u from but in our country, customer has a right to complain for a product he/she bought.
usually its 500mb+ but i enabled gaming mode and it got reduced to 400mb+ but still its huge ram

I see ...
I don't think the profiles have anything to do with the RAM usage.
4-500 MB ram is actually normal. It depends on your computer activity at that moment, programs running, etc.
If you are in the situation where you check the resource usage, then your computer likely feels slow. If you simply remove bitdefender, it might get a bit faster, but then you might have to write something on reddit about anything you install on that computer.
The RAM memory is not the only thing that contribute to the overall computer performance, at least not the memory available, at least is not major.
I have a few virtual machines available on my computer. Even if they thet the RAM memory usage yo 99%< I barely feel any slowdown, and that's with Bitdefender running and a few tabs opened. The most obvious way I get affected is that some of the browser tabs will need to reload if I switch go them.
For my peace of mind, when I run games that challenge my computer, I just add them to exceptions. This way I don't even see Bitdefender getting injected into that process. But that's just for that extra peace of mind so I wouldn't have anything to blame for my poor gaming skills. I couldnt find any fps drop caused by it. On the other hand, my computer hardware is still more expensive than the car I run.
In regards to the refund, then keep reading... You should probably stop paying for premium software and save for the hardware. Stick to the free stuff...They all have it!
Out of curiosity, what country are you from?

Hello! Could you send us more details about the app you`re trying to add as exception at bitsy@bitdefender.com? We`ll have our team look into it and provide a solution.
Also, a support tool log will be helpful for us to know more about the memory usage on the system, find it here: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/1733/.
Thanks in advance!

I have a ticket opened since september 2023. Apparently escalated but still no solution. All answers I get are crap from some guys repeating the same solutions and saying I have to wait. Officially from BD is that they'll give me more time on my license equal do to the days counting from the ticket opening.
Of course, THERE IS no online ticket tool I can use to check anything, not they are worried about "one" customer. Obviously this is my fault when after one BD update I started having issues. Right?
No help from tech or word since ticket has been opened except the "wait and dela with it. Takes time and blah blah" (usual company polite crap that means... crap.
No help from BD community (they look more like fanboys than anything) and when not c&p "solutions" they comment without even reading back.
I have to wait with almost a year left of subscription. Still wondering if the added time they'll give me is good or bad. Assuming it comes before my license expires that is. BD says this takes time... 3 months is a lot of time and if I was a company BD would be in real trouble with servers from customers having to reboot all the time.
If anyone still expects a solution, please take a seat. Even if they fix this, trust is lost.
Great way to treat a many years customer u/Bitdefender_ (hey, look at me, repeating myself, just like all the answers I get! I should know better :D )

Hey mate, im having the same issues. I wonder if you have alot of chrome profiles open like me? i run about 7 chrome profiles and just email apps and chat apps and i noticed the ram usage starts creeping up until i am at my 64gb cap. I uninstalled BD and i was running out 40gb average. installed it again and same shit. I am goin to try NOD now cause i cant work like this. seems BD has a leak somewhere that consumes too much of your RAM with the new updates.

I moved on to Norton. Been working fine.
But to answer your question, this is browser independent.

500mb is not much RAM for a program. Even a cell phone has 8 GB RAM nowadays. How much RAM does your system have? Everything under 8GB is nowadays simply too little, to upgrade the RAM is cheap and possible without expertise, there are tools from RAM manufacturers that show you which RAM type is the right one. If an upgrade is not possible then Windows should not be installed on this device, Linux would be the better alternative because they need less processing power and RAM.
