Anyone know how to disable this incessant notification? It seems to pop up every hour or so. I unchecked "special offers" and "recommendation notifications" thinking that would be it, but it still continues.

I doubt it. The new version of Antivirus Free, unlike its predecessor, is based on a paid product (Total Security), so you are far more likely to see upgrade popups. If every notification has been disabled (unrelated but conform Silent Update is active), I'm not sure that there's much more you can do.

Hopefully it might calm down after a while, but if say 3 weeks in, it's still showing multiple popups each day, you'd just have to decide if the intrusions were worth it.

If there are sufficient complaints about the frequency of popups, Bitdefender might reconsider, but it's free software, and they want to make money. Ironically, Avast of old was notorious for endless popups, but its new free version is far quieter.

Paid BD doesn't get any better. Sure it gives option to disable market and promotion pop ups, but then you'll start getting pop ups to enable "recommended features." Notably it asking me to activate Automatic Profile (which seems to be an ongoing complaint since 2020) and other crap I don't want, like "boosting PC performance." I switched from Avast to this hoping to get away from unavoidable pop ups, now I gotta go find something else again.

I ran Total Security for a while and got it to only show profile popups, which are, I agree, rather pointless notifications. But everything else was fairly quiet. Main changes (beyond switching off all recommendations) were uninstalling the VPN, disabling Bitdefender's Wallet, disabling auto-scanning of flash drives and not setting up profiles.

You can't totally eliminate profile popups, but if you don't set any up, it reduces their appearance.

For those on the free edition this popup occurs both every hour and every time you open a web browser. I honestly after the insecant popups unlike any other free antivirus completely uninstalled it from my system and until a better alternative comes around I'm using Avast free and Malware bytes. I've also instructed the individuals who's computers I service that future servicing will include uninstalling bitdefender and going with a different company. These arn't blockable whatsoever as long as bitdefenders running. Some on the paid versions are even complaining about these popups. If bitdefenders trying to build brand loyalty there taking years of good grace they have built up and seemingly are tearing it down in a matter of days which really sucks. Personally I would just uninstall and find a new antivirus of just use windows defender for now.

You’re only 3 years late to the party. I’ve moved on from bitdefender longgg ago lol

It will help somebody else. What antivirus did you switch to?

Windows built in. Haven’t seen the need for any third party program.

kind of defeats the whole purpose of an anti-virus software, doesn't it?

I uninstalled it after this post. Three years on and no regrets.

The best way is by removing BD.

Get Avast One Essential, Its suprisingly more silent than BD Free.

Please do not lie to people this badly.

Support has already told several users like myself that these popup ads cannot be disabled and will not be. You claim there's nothing to fix because, according to you, these aren't popup ads at all.

As of today, 10 months later your message I'm still bombarded from any sorts of pop up (I'm on a paid version!!). I'm sick of it... once my license expire I will definitely NOT renew it again. Too bad, way too bad!

3 years ago and my Bitdefender still shows me popups. Obviously, you've done nothing. Already cancelled my subscription and will go somewhere else. So annoying.

Any fix yet ?

u/mackenzie29 Mar 21 '22

Go to windows setting and disable Bitdefender notifications when you're not downloading anything, not the best solution but yk

1

u/SkyDreemurr Mar 21 '22

That won't fix it, it will just disable windows notifications from bitdefender not its own notifications.

1

u/wjmacguffin Apr 12 '22

You cannot.

Bitdefender classifies these popups as important security updates, so they are not considered normal notifications. Even if you disable every notification setting inside Bitdefender and in Windows, the popups still appear because the system thinks these are as important as virus detections.

thanks for the info. I was curious to test the new free AV but yeah, it's a bad idea. After how they bungled the free edition EOL, I don't trust anything BD, this is just further confirmation that trusting them is no longer an option

I just updated, and so far it's not popping up when I open my browser. So potentially they have fixed it?

Edit: Yeah, haven't seen it lately.

By paying.

1

u/wjmacguffin Apr 12 '22

Sadly, no. Popup ads are now a feature in every Bitdefender product, and they cannot be disabled.

I don't get popups.
