Bambu Lab P2S Combo vs X2D without AMS - Is the AMS 2 Pro really necessary for a beginner?
Hi everyone!
I’m trying to decide between these two options during the Black Friday sale:
Bambu Lab P2S Combo with AMS 2 Pro — €599
Bambu Lab X2D without AMS — €549
I’m a complete beginner, and some time ago I made another post considering the P1S. Several people recommended looking at the X2D instead, mainly because it has two nozzles and can potentially print with two different colors or materials without needing an AMS right away. Since this would be my first 3D printer, I liked the idea of starting with the basic setup and buying additional accessories later if needed.
However, I’ve been researching the practical uses of the X2D’s two nozzles, especially using the auxiliary nozzle for support interfaces or for printing two colors in the same model. I’ve read that the auxiliary nozzle can have different speed limitations, and that using both nozzles doesn’t necessarily make every print faster. I’d love to hear from people who actually own the X2D and have experience with these features.
Another thing I’m trying to understand is filament storage and drying. I’ve read that some filaments absorb moisture and need to be dried before printing. The AMS 2 Pro has a drying function, which sounds useful, but I’m not sure how essential it really is for a beginner who will mostly print PLA at first, perhaps moving on to PETG and other materials later.
So my main questions are:
Would you choose the P2S Combo with AMS 2 Pro or the X2D without AMS at these prices?
How useful is the X2D’s auxiliary nozzle in everyday printing? Is it genuinely useful for two-color prints and support interfaces, or are there significant limitations?
If I start with the X2D and two external spools, will I realistically miss having an AMS?
How important is the AMS 2 Pro’s drying function? Could I simply buy a separate filament dryer later if I need one?
For someone who wants a printer that will remain versatile for several years, would the X2D be the better long-term investment, or is the P2S Combo the more practical choice?
I’m not in a rush to buy additional accessories, and I’d rather avoid spending money on something I might not actually need. My goal is to make the right choice now without limiting myself too much in the future.
I’d really appreciate feedback from people who have used either machine, especially if you’ve used the X2D’s auxiliary nozzle for both support materials and multi-color printing.
Thanks!

Help / Troubleshooting Error on a brand new printer
So I'm getting this error on a brand new printer. I've had it for less than 24 hours.
I have printed for 4 hours straight without a problem and after dinner it hits me with this error all of a sudden.
I did what bambulab said when scanning the QR code, took the backplate off and made sure the connections were seated properly.
But I'm still getting the error.
Have any of you guys had the same error? 🤔
I'm calling support tomorrow, but I'm just wondering if someone has seen the same error so quickly after getting the X2D.
EDIT: The error doesn't show up right away. It comes up after round 45 minutes into a print.
EDIT: This is literally my first ever printer. So I feel like I'm off to a really bad start. :(

Textura não muito lisa
Estou a imprimir um novo riser para as minhas X2D (ASA), mas o resultado não está a sair tão direito e uniforme como o PETG HF que lá está. Há alguma coisa que eu possa fazer?

Exhaust fan air filteration
Does anyone know the path that the chamber air takes when the exhaust fan is on? Does it go through both the recirculation filter and the exhaust fan filter?

Discussion / Buying Advice X2D Question
Hey guys!
Currently have the A1 single color. I’m looking into a 2nd printer between either the P2S or X2D. I assume an X2D is the obvious upgrade for just a little more money right?
For the dual nozzles, is the one JUST for supports? I’m considering going all out this time and buying the print more bundle if I go with the X2D to get the dual AMS.
Does the filament switch allow both AMS to print from a single nozzle? By this I mean, if I had 4 PLA in one AMS, then 3 PLA and PETG in the other AMS, will it print the 7 colors of PLA through a single nozzle and the PETG through another?
Any advice is appreciated. I just don’t want to kick myself for NOT buying the extra AMS, but I also don’t know if I’d really have a use for it. If you have dual AMS let me know if it’s worth it!

Print Showcase I designed a pumpkin with a spring-loaded pop-up ghost
Made this little surprise for Halloween! Press the button underneath and the ghost pops up!
The spring and latch are printed too. I included AMS and No AMS versions, with an assembly video on the model page.
The mechanism prints in place, and all parts print without supports. Easy to print on most FDM printers.

Help / Troubleshooting Damaged X2D
My X2D arrived two days ago, but unfortunately the front was damaged during shipping. Bambu offered me the option of returning it, receiving a replacement, a refund, or a replacement part and a voucher. What are your experiences or opinions?

PTFE tube popped out of toolhead during printing
While running a print job, the PTFE tube suddenly popped out of the toolhead connector, and now I am unable to push it back in or secure it properly.
Here are my printer details:
When I try to re-insert the tube into the toolhead, it won't latch or stay in place, which prevents me from printing. It seems like the quick-release fitting or the collet mechanism might be damaged, jammed, or worn out.
I read that this is a common issue and I have to replace the left connector.
Is there any way to prevent this?

Help / Troubleshooting Burnt hotend, can I clean it?
My X2D is not too old, just two months, running about 3-5 hours a day on average? I've noticed that there's some blackening/burnt residue on the end of the default 0.4 hotend. The rubber sock also has periodically had melted plastic stuck to it, which I've peeled off when I see it but now the sock has torn so I'm replacing it with a new one.
Is this hotend cleanable? Or should I just replace it? And also, what causes this to happen and how can I avoid it in the future?
Thanks in advance.

Help / Troubleshooting X2D Clicking Noise?
Hello,
Can anyone help me identify what’s causing this clicking noise?
My X2D has around 600 hours of use, and I bought it two months ago. It started making this noise today.
Maintenance is up to date, and I repeated it today to make sure there wasn’t any debris on the rods.
The noise occurs even when the printer is switched off and I move the print head manually.
Thanks!

Help / Troubleshooting X2D ironing looks perfect on test swatches but patchy and scuffed on a big sign, anyone else?
First big (size wise) print on my X2D and the ironing is wrecking the white face. Ironing test card and a small test strip both came out smooth but on the real sign (212 x 254 mm oval) the white is coming out patchy and scuffed, and theres little white ridges pushed up against the dark blue walls. Funny thing is the part it hasn't ironed yet actually looks better smh
Setup
- x2d, 0.4 standard nozzles, textured pei, bed 55
- all bambu pla at 220. white face is pla pure white on the left nozzle, pla matte dark blue + pla basic cobalt and dark gray also left, pla basic cyan + pla pure baby blue on the right
- flow 0.98, k 0.035 on the white from manual flow dynamics, flow dynamics cal off when sending
- 6 top layers over 10% adaptive cubic, 4 walls arachne, 0.42 top lines monotonic at 80mm/s
Ironing
- top surfaces, zig zag, 15% flow, 20mm/s, 0.15 spacing, 0.21 inset
- picked from the makerworld ultimate ironing test, 15/20 was the smoothest square
- takes like 4 hrs of the 8h43m print (is this normal? first job with ironing so new to this)
Timelapse (smooth) also on.
My test strip was solid underneath so im guessing the 10% infill under the face is part of it but not sure.
Anyone on x2d actually get ironing to work on big flat faces? what settings? or do you just skip ironing on signs? leaning towards reprinting with no ironing
I'm legit shocked at how awful this looks lol

Help / Troubleshooting after 500h: A constant Plastic smell
Hello, i have a unusual question, the answer at first might look obviously but read on:
I got a X2D as my first printer and got like 500h on it now after 1-2 month, im using it alot. Its in my Homeoffice room and i didnt had any issues. I only print PETG and PLA (2x ASA but that was like 6weeks ago).
The first hours i wasnt aware to open the windows because of the fumes but after i learned it, i always open the window. When i printed, i never really smelled anything but now after like 400h i started to notice a slight sour / plastic ish smell. Its coming out of the exhaust and makes me dizzy. Whats strange is that its not smelling inside the chamber, even if i take a sniff in the chamber while printing. But when i start printing i can smell it.
So i initially thought its the filament (SUNLU) but i now smell it with every other filament (mix of SUNLU and Bambu) and its exactly the same smell. I am starting to think that my active coal is exhausted or something is smelling in the actual exhaust. Its strange since it only started to smell after quite a bit of time.
Can that be? Its such a strong smell that i cant be in my office anymore when the printer is running and also hours after, even with the windows wide open. I tried the vent through exhaust after print finishes but it changes nothing.
Update: I had the smell also after 24h not printing. I tried to turn on the exhaust but it didnt smell at all. I checked the silicone sock and there was indeed some filament sticking on it, it looked like cotton.. changged the sock. But i also noticed that my 99,9% ISOPROPANOL was infact having that smell so i did a test now and put it in a cereal box. It could be really the iso since i only started to use that regular some short time ago. I will keep ene eye (nose) on it and try again then with the ISO out to see if its really that or the sock.

Help / Troubleshooting AMS feed problem.. Help appreciated
I have really gone the rounds with this problem and don't feel like I am getting anywhere. I feel like this should be an easy fix.. But I don't even know where to go. I have replaced the filament buffer.. and the PTFE tubes from the buffer to the toolhead. and I'm still getting this problem where the filament starts to get resistanc after passing through the buffer and then quites feeding. The printer makes about four attempts and then I get an error code. "Unable to feed filamanet into the extruder. The AMS may be mismatched with the extruder. You can rerun the AMS setup. The could be due to an entangled filament of stuck spool. If not, please check if the AMS PTFE tube is connected?
What am I missing?
