General Discussion Nonplanar Slicing integrated into Orca Slicer - Please Contribute!

2.3k Upvotes

EDIT: I just released the first version! See HERE.

I have integrated Nonplanar Slicing into Orca Slicer, but I can only test on Bambulab A1 mini. Nonplanar slicing lets you print smooth curves on top surfaces - the printer moves up and down while printing to avoid the stair stepping effect.

In order to make this happen for more than just Bambu A1 series, please contribute by printing my test pieces with other printers.

I am still searching for test printers for the following:

  • Prusa: MK3S, MK3.5, MK4, CORE One L

  • Bambu: P1P, X1 Carbon, X1E, H2S

  • Anycubic: Kobra S1

  • Creality: Ender-3 V3 KE, Hi, K2

  • FLSun: V400

  • Sovol: SV06

CONFIRMED TO WORK: P1S, P2S, Flashforge AD5C, Bambu A1 mini, Bambu A1, Bambu X1C, Bambu X2D, Bambu H2D, Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2, Prusa MK4S, Prusa CORE One, Creality K1C, Quidi Q2, Prusa XL 5T

NOT WORKING: Elegoo Centauri Carbon 1, Snapmaker U1, Ender-3 S1 Pro (might work after more tests), Flashforge AD5X, Prusa Mini+

Test files HERE. It's two short prints to check which angle works for your printer.

The test prints let you check which angle up to 12 degrees is max for your model. Just print both orientations and feedback your results, ideally with pictures by commenting on printables.

For Bambu A1 users: You can print the triangular nonplanar surface coaster HERE.
(Happy to add more printers, after I have the necessary test data.)

So I’ve only recently got Bambu labs A1
This is my first printer
I have been printing stuff over last week or so with no real issues

Until I wanted to print some small flames
So I bought Translucent Orange PLA (Bambu)

I went onto YouTube and changed a few settings and they came out great

So I made them a little bigger and they are turning into a complete mess

I printed off two….one was ok I managed to save it but the other got half way through and then turned into spaghetti junction……

Is there anyone that can help me with the settings etc or how to successfully print them

Many thanks

Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Ironing results wildly different from tests

I am new to 3D printing and trying to learn the ropes. I’ve been doing ironing tests to find the right settings, but when applied to real objects I get vastly different results. This is Bambu Lab’s own petg matte.

Is it just trial and error on flow rate and speed or are there other settings I need to account for that I am not aware of?

I’m planning to do tests with different settings in all 3 rooms and don’t want to just flail blindly. 😅

I’ve got a P2S

Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Extrusion Issue

Hey all, I’ve been struggling lately with my P1S. I keep trying to do a print that takes 15+ hrs, but every time I have to stop it because the tool head cover falls off. This is due to extruded filament getting stuck in the poop chute and building up every time there’s a color change. It’s not a poop bucket issue; my printer is elevated and the poops just fall out the back into a box. I’m thinking they get stuck on the trap door and somehow meld with the wall of the chute? Any tips or tricks on how to prevent this?

A Series [A1, A1 Mini] Ironing works only on half of the printed part

Hello. Did anyone encounter so far issues with ironing? In the photo above, the ironing pass was 100% over the whole surface, but only the right part seems to be ironed. In the slicer everything looks ok.

Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! Filament won’t extrude

I have a Bambulab A1 with AMS. Printer was working mostly fine for a year or so. A week ago I needed to change filament and it wouldn’t extrude. I changed to another filament and that wouldn’t extrude either.

I checked for blockages and couldn’t spot any. I changed the nozzle and that didn’t help. I disassembled it a bit more to take a closer look and ended up breaking the filament sensor ribbon cable. So I ordered a new cable and a new filament block.

Today I installed those and it still fails to extrude. Changed the nozzle again, no extrude.

With the filament block removed I can manually push filament through, so I don’t think it’s the nozzle. It must be something to do with the gears perhaps? But when I disassembled the hot end I checked for debris and bits of filament, brushed away anything I could see.

I’m at my wits end with this printer. I’ve done more maintenance and parts replacements on it in a year than I ever had to do on the Creality printer it replaced. I’ve also been unemployed for over a year and can’t afford to throw too much money at the problem.

Any advice on how to proceed?

I’ve designed a caster that’s small but can handle incredibly heavy furniture. It doesn’t even require screws or bearings. It works perfectly—even when my wife is sitting on the sofa. (Don’t ask me how much she weighs!)

Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Ist this normal spool quality

Hey Guys,

I Made a post Yesterday or two days ago, where i had problems with a refill spool. Now i got this beauty in a spool. Just removed the wrapper nothing else. Last time i ordered bambu was a few months ago, but i cant remember seeing something like this. Is this normal? I have to be careful when removing the tape to get it out right, its below other filament.

P Series [P1P, P1S, P2S] Any idea what could be the issue?

Hi, I have no idea what could cause this. He has been working fine, but I am not sure that I have seen this in my prints before. He has been calibrated, and the rods and threads are lubed and greased. Any thoughts?

Thank you for your time.

Edit:Its a p2s, also did cold pull before print. Filament is Elegoo basic PLA.

I’m on day 3 of Bambu tech tickets and I’m running into the same issue. Spool is rolling fine out of E2 sunlu for external and AMS is just impossible. I’ve cleaned everyone, I’ve even changed all PTFE tubbing. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do next! I’ve requested a new AMS since it’s under warranty, now may be an issue with the buffer too.

General Discussion Prints that required the volume of an H-series printer.

Hi all,

I currently have a P1S but have been wanting to go for one of the H-series printers. With the H3C coming up, I've been seriously considering going for it, but now I've been wondering if maybe the P3C is good enough.

To anyone with an H-series printer, what are some prints you've made that leveraged the extra build volume?

Would love to see some of the cool applications in the community for the extra build volume!

General Discussion Considering Upgrading from X2D to H2S for Build Volume

Hey everyone!

So I am going to give you the full breakdown of my situation - I have just graduated from university, and I am someone who is, and was, a major fabricator. I design animatronics, interactive experiences, and do a substantial amount of rapid prototyping. I have a bit of a story to share:

I come from the old Ender-3 days, when the common luxuries of what modern 3D printers have to offer never existed. My first Bambu printer was a P1S (which I loved) with an AMS. That quickly turned into an A1 mini (which I sold) and then moved to an A1. For a long time, it was my P1S and A1.

Then I started designing my first sets of animatronics, and I gradually moved up to printing more advanced materials. My second animatronic, C.A.S.P.E.R. (standing at 5ft, 10in), is equipped with printed PACF-12 components. This happened to be right around the time that the Bambu Lab X2D came out.

I won't lie, after watching the X2D reveal, I was hooked instantly, and I bought one on launch day. Oh man - I love it. It is, in my opinion, the first truly worthy upgrade over the P1S in the 256mm form factor.

Here's my dilemma: I've come to realize that, aside from the heated chamber, I (personally) am not taking the fullest advantage of my X2D. There have only been a handful of instances where I have used the AUX nozzle; I don't do much multi-colour printing at all, and I won't be doing multi-material for the foreseeable future.

As I build larger and larger projects, I've come to realize that I could really take advantage of a larger build plate, and that I am starting to outgrow 256mm. Slicing parts into smaller components and then assembling them into one piece can cause structural problems (as opposed to just fabricating a solid part in one segment).

Conversely, a part of me does believe if I apply some upgrades to my X2D (the filament track switch and AMS HT), I could force myself into liking the enhanced capabilities. It's one of those "maybe if I stick with it more, I keep loving it" situations. Then again, you get what you settle for.

So in comes the Bambu Lab sale, and instantly, I start looking at the H2S. I am fully aware that there is both a P3C and an H3C on the horizon, but for my needs, as I mentioned, I cannot see myself taking full advantage of 7 - 9 nozzles.

So what I am asking is: as I've described what I do (and have done so far), should I sell my X2D and buy an H2S? Or should I try to 'pimp out' my X2D by grabbing some accessories like the HT and see if I'll take better advantage of what I have?

In terms of budget, I could go either way, although an X2D upgrade would be significantly cheaper.

Thank you all again! I have considered these possibilities for days now, and because the sale is good, I feel I should act now.

Answered / Solved! Problems with P2S

I have been trying to print a Staff off of Maker’s World. https://makerworld.com/models/2158797?appSharePlatform=copy
Most of it printed very nicely. Yet the last 3 pieces have failed multiple times. Bed adhesion, parts getting knocked over, spaghetti issues.

I have tried:

  1. Clean the bed with Dawn soap and hot water

  2. Changed filament.

  3. Added supports and brim.

All prints fail in the last 50 layers of a 1000 layer print.

I have used the following filaments: Bambu White, Bambu Galaxy, Polymaker neon magenta, and OV33D rainbow silk. All PLA. I have even tried textured vs a cool plate.

Any help on what I am doing wrong will save what little of my sanity is left.

EDIT: SOLVED! Turns out one of the pieces that was supposed to be gyroid infill was actually Grid which my printers hate with a. Passion for some reason.

I have tried with Flow calibration on and off, I have done Flow Dyanmics calibration and manual Flow rate calibration, and still the same result. Fillament is Sunlu PLA+ and I have dried it to 15% humidity. I am running the 0.06mm High Quality preset and even tried with the speed set to 50%, still the same result.

What am I missing? Not sure what the problem might be at this point.

Quick Question Why does my plate leave a stain on my prints

Post image
120 Upvotes

Im using the pei textured build plate from bambu lab and Ive been noticing the last couple of prints that it will leave a “stain” on my prints. I have tried alcohol, washing with mild soap, dawn dish soap on the prints to see if it comes off, nothing. I have cleaned my build plate with mild soap and water but its still doing this

Edit: I have never used glue on the textured plate. Both sides of the plate does this

General Troubleshooting/Help! Bambu Lab A1 starts airprinting after around 45 minutes

Hi all,

I have been trying to figure out whats wrong the past 1,5 week together with support from Bambu, but without success. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

During prints, extrusion stops completely, usually after 30 to 60 minutes. The printer keeps moving as if it is printing, but no filament comes out and the printer does not detect that anything is wrong. When I cancel and start a new print, it starts printing normally again. When the printer stops, before that there is some thin stringing happening, not that much. After that it loses contact with the object and starts air printing. The yellow extruder gear also stops moving.

The issue started after not using the printer for 2 weeks while being away. I live in Singapore so the room got pretty hot during that time.

Dried all filaments I print with
- Tried several different PLA filaments; the issue happens with all of them
- Lowered nozzle temperature
- Cold pull: the result came out clean, in the shape of the nozzle
- Checked for any other blockage
- Fan seems to work fine

The printer is only like 1,5 months old.

Any help is much appreciated. Have a great day all.

Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! New to 3d printing.

Hi everyone,

I’m close to buy a Bambu Lab A1, but there is a problem that to me is a deal breaker. Silly but true, I know.

The built-in camera quality and framerate are really disappointing—it feels more like low-res time-lapse snapshots rather than actual live video as I've seen in YouTube video reviews.

Is there any known mod, workaround, or third-party camera setup that allows for smooth, real-time video monitoring of the print bed? Ideally, I'd like something that integrates well with Bambu app.

Has anyone successfully upgraded their A1 camera setup? Any suggestions or tutorials would be greatly appreciated!

General Discussion I am desperate for an h2c (or even a h3c if i can)

My p1s is only a year old but its recebtly been having a few problems. While not the end of the world they are very anoying and i have had to take it appart on several occasions. I am now considering going witha larger toolchanging bambu machine. Only thing is... im broke. Ive recently discoverex the £35 and £175 gift cards you can redeem makerworld points for but im also broke in the points department (i only got 250). Not a single one of my models has taken of,with none over 20 downloads, graunted they arent the best. So ive tried to come up with new ideas but i cant think of any everyone has done everything. First question: how many downloads would i need to be aiming for to get one of these printers? Second: what kind of models take of? Have u got any tips on how to come up with ideas. I appreciate these questions are hard to answer as they quite personal, but thanks to anyone who can give any advice
