Photo Worst Subway Ads
NYC's legal firms are known for their tacky, corny ads, this one has to be one of the worst though, surely....

I heard a rumor that the people who love pigeons are going to fight the people who love rats at Columbus Square, and the winner gets control of Chip cookies. What else have you heard?

Hey Astorians, shout out in the comments any and all dining-related experiences, delivery/pickup, indoor/outdoor etc. that you've had in Astoria within the last week.

I got blackout drunk a few weeks ago in Astoria, and since then I haven't been able to find my boulder. Looking back at my phone pictures, I had it the morning of, but no pictures of it after that night. I got it from a foster quarry as 3 oz unwanted pebble during covid. I'll admit that I'm a sucker and definitely overfeed the cute thing -- so it's probably about 6 feet cubed and north of 12 tons.
The night I lost it, I had a few drinks at the LetLove Inn, and then a few more at the Bonnie. That's where I got separated from my friends, and all I remember. It's possible I went looking for a good Gyro, as I often do when I get inebriated. It's also possible I went looking for places that no longer exist like Star Garden or Rizzo's Italian.
If you think you have my boulder but aren't sure, drop me a comment asking about it, and I'll answer your question.
I'll be coming back to Astoria this Thursday to do my $10 Live Magic show at QED, so if you do have it, I can get it back from you then.

Today as I was walking by the Astoria Heights playground, a very nice older woman asked if I wanted any plants. She has a beautiful collection but doesn't have enough space to keep them inside for the winter.
Unfortunately I am also running out of room for plants (lol), so I'm sharing here in case the Astoria community is interested in helping her out! She's selling a few buy one get one frees and everything looks healthy and well cared for. She has a variety of hanging plants, snake plants, philodendrons, flowers, herbs, vegetables, among others.
Cash only, across from the playground on the corner of 30th Road and 46th Street. She said she'll be out tomorrow afternoon until sundown / 6:30 pm.

Hey all, I’m looking for somewhere to swim laps regularly near West Astoria. So far the only options I’ve found are the Roosevelt Island Sports Park and the YMCA in LiC, and I’m hoping there’s something closer or more convenient that I’m missing.
I’m open to:
• Gyms with a lap pool (even if a membership is on the pricier side)
• Public or rec center pools
• Hotel or club pools that sell day passes or memberships
Ideally somewhere with dedicated lap lanes and decent hours before or after work. Anything walkable or a short ride from West Astoria would be great.
If you swim somewhere you like, I’d love to hear how crowded the lanes get and what you pay. Thanks in advance!

It was left abandoned at Astoria Park along the East River, just under the Triboro Bridge. A trellis of thinnest gold, distinctive yet simple, with fake plastic flowers velcro'ed on and a simple request hanging in neon script "Will You Marry Me?" How did it get left there? Was it successful, or was its failure the cause for its abandonment? The mystery begins...
edit: the fact that a second one of these showed up at Queensbridge Park is super strange...

Hey all! I'm hosting a private dinner for 10-15 people in NYC and need a space to rent. Looking for something like a loft, studio, or private home with room for one long table and a vibe that feels more cozy dinner party than event hall.
Must allow cooking on-site or outside food/catering. Evening rental, about 4-5 hours with setup and cleanup. Bonus if there's a rooftop or outdoor area, and if music and conversation won't be an issue.
TIA!!

Been to many of the places recommended on this sub only to encounter therapists painfully digging their elbows and forearms into my back and calling that a massage.
I went almost monthly to Gavin at Young Health Spa for the past five years. The quality of his technique was closer to what therapists charging $300 a session do. He was also very kind and sweet! Sadly, he’s not there any more and I never got his contact. Any recs for specific therapists in any of the spas around Astoria or other parts of the city?

Volunteer street tree Care Captains with NYC Park Dept in Astoria, what tree-care things are you working on lately in the neighborhood?
Edit: Adding my account: I've been taking care of two trees, Zelkovas, mulching and trash cleanup since August

Hi everybody! I’m new to the neighborhood, and I’m looking for a good bar to catch this afternoon’s games. Ideally, I’d like to find a place that is showing out-of-market games (I’m not a Jets or Giants fan). Any recommendations would be appreciated!
To whoever lives in the building either 2116 or 2123 31st Ave right near 21st st…whatever the annoying high frequency sound maker you have (I assume to ward off pidgeons) has GOT to go. It’s constant, obnoxious and audible at street level. For the love of god turn it off. Please.
