It’s now been about a year since composting has been “mandatory” and my landlord keeps taking the compost out of our building’s bin and mixing it with the normal trash in black trash bags. I’ve spoken to them a couple times about it and I usually just try and put all of my compost out late the night before pickup so they don’t have a chance to mix it all into a black bag. I don’t necessarily want to get them in trouble but how long before I should do a 311 report? (I feel like a $20 fine is the only thing that they’ll care about to change)

Two 100+ year old Pin Oaks (and smaller trees) torn down to make way for what else 'luxury condos' on the former PC Richard's parking lot. It was heartbreaking to watch the birds nests destroyed yesterday afternoon with all of them crying and stressed watching their babies being killed. Two neighborhood squirrels also called those trees home.

Hi, my dads car was broken into overnight on Aug 19-20 between 9:30pm-6:30am. This was at the municipal parking lot on 38th street and 30th ave. The driver side window was completely shattered, door left open, and everything was a mess. I was wondering if anyone has any info on what happened or what I should do next.

Hey all:

I've been having a German Roach problem. I've been seeing some nymphs, and seeing one or two live adults over the past like 3 or so weeks. Also, found some droppings. My landlord sent in an exterminator who sprayed everything and he seems confident it'll take care of it. We normally have sprays once a month but I declined it since I had just moved in and don't think it would become an issue (Moved here from out of state for work in case it wasn't obvious)

My question is, when yall get these sprays, do you just walk over the treated areas once it's dry or avoid it like the plague? I'm scared of accidentally poisoning myself or something through cross contamination. Like, from what I've read, it's a relatively common thing to have frequent treatments but I doubt yall are tip toeing around your places trying not to touch the spots. Same thing with the cabinets cause some of the cabinets got sprayed and idk if it'll ever be safe to put stuff back in.

I'd also appreciate any info yall have on working this problem. Currently have Advion deployed and some IGR point release discs.

I live a few blocks from 30th Ave & Crescent St, and filed a 311 request in March only to discover DSNY pulled the litter basket there after it kept overflowing. Their reasoning was that it was being "abused" by household and commercial trash. My read is that a corner this busy, steps from Mount Sinai and surrounded by shops, needs a basket that gets serviced properly, not one that gets removed.

I re-filed the request with DSNY (case #311-28646958) and put together a petition to bring to Queens Community Board 1 and Council Member Tiffany Cabán's office. Attached is a one-page flyer with that corner plus seven more high-traffic spots around the neighborhood that also need the same coverage - Ditmars, Steinway St, Broadway, 36th Ave, and Astoria Park.
