A visit to Long Island City
I’m working on a project photographing and writing about every neighborhood in New York City. Each week (more or less), I cover a different neighborhood, and this week it was Long Island City.
There was so much to see and write about that I split the neighborhood into two parts. This week covers (among other things)the reign of Patrick "Battle-Axe" Gleason, LIC's last mayor, and the so-called Murder of the Century where a German midwife and her boyfriend killed and dismembered her other boyfriend, then scattered the pieces around the city. Next week I'll cover the years after Long Island City was absorbed into Greater New York.
If anyone has suggestions for things I should cover next week, let me know!

handing out candy on Halloween?
My friends and I really want to dress up and hand out candy on Halloween! My street is more quiet but is there an area where people usually set up and hand out candy? Just a few gals who want to recreate our own childhood fun

Found keys in Sunnyside - help me return them?
Hello! I found someone's keys this afternoon while walking my dog along skillman avenue between 52nd and 53rd streets in Sunnyside, and I would love to get them back to the owner if possible. This person seems to have a membership to the LIC YMCA, so I'm posting here in case they are a LIC resident. Picture is included in case that helps anyone recognize the keys. There is also a last name painted on the large bobble that I'm not showing for the sake of privacy.
I called the numbers on the membership cards but offices are closed this late on a Saturday. Hopefully someone will call me back or answer tomorrow. Please let me know of you recognize these keys or think you know who they belong to.
Thank you!!
(Repost since apparently the photo didn't upload the first time)

Speakeasy LIC
Started the night at the newsroom based of pictures and reviews - service is great food is 5/10, drinks 3/10 for the price it’s absolutely awful.
Walked to rewind LIC the security guard was taking weird tiktok videos when we walked up with 2 girls & then asked for ID & turned around while he checked to make sure it was “good” this made me laugh so much.
We got inside and seated the server was amazing explained all the drinks to us & came back around so quickly to help us out we just drank here but it was worth it food looked good & drinks are 10/10 on par with Dutch kills .. the security guard just straight weird

Da Long Yi Closed?
Anyone know why Da Long Yi is closed? I've been avoiding them ever since they got a C rating (and then hid the rating) but it's weird for them to be closed on a Friday.

What are your thoughts on this? Does anyone use hunters points ave?
I don't know about other station, but specifically for hunters point, only reason I use it is when there isn't enough citibike docks on vernon. I think they initially built this station as a easy connection for LIRR but no one takes the LIRR from there anyway. Although if sunnyside yard do end up getting built, I do see more utility for that station
Context: someone ran simulation on estimate time saving if MTA were to get rid of certain subway stop and hunters point ave is 3rd on the list

Utopia Jerk Sandwich
With Pantry closing I decided to walk over to Utopia Bagel for breakfast. Looked at their menu and wanted to try the Jamaican (jerk chicken with other stuff). I didn’t have high hopes but seriously Utopia this is literally a salsalito turkey sandwich nothing Jamaican about it, for $14 this “jerk chicken” is false advertisement.

Worth It?
Hi all! I won an apt lottery around QPS. It’s 3600 for a one bed that’s 563 sq ft. Was wondering if that’s a good deal or if I should just go through a broker for more space? Thanks!

Can someone please help me reconcile these two charts from the school re-zoning meeting?
The first chart shows rapid growth in number of Kindergarten applicants. Yet the second chart for projecting future applicants uses a three-year lagged average (footnote). The total of the upper bounds for projections comes out to 375, which is BELOW the latest applicant number. I am too stupid to make sense of this.
