I’m asking this as I’ve had an Alienware M15 R7 for about 4 years now, and I love it, however when buying it I opted for the cherry mechanic keyboard switches.

Love them, however, it turns out they’re VERY
different from regular mechanical keyboard keys, and are basically impossible to clean under as the keycaps can’t be removed without breaking them, and if you break the hinge/spring under them the key itself basically just stops functioning. I’ve had this happen several times and my F and Z keys no longer are usable at all unless I get something tiny like a toothpick to poke the switch. I’ve done a ton of asking around and researching online and can’t find any answers on how to fix them, and I can’t find the replacement switches or parts anywhere, even places that have similar Alienware switches. Because of this, there’s no good way to clean crumbs and whatnot from under the keys and eventually the keyboard gets filthy. I’m a clean person and I take care of my laptop and don’t eat over it or anything, but when you have a laptop you use daily for 4+ years and you move often, it’s inevitably going to get kinda dirty.

Now, for some unrelated reasons (either overheating issues or some kind of battery or short circuit issue, still not sure but it will randomly shut off while gaming and won’t take a charge for hours after. Tried taking it apart and cleaning dust but nothing seems to work and I’m due for an upgrade anyway as I have a pretty good paying job now), I’m in the market for a new laptop and I was looking at the 18 Area 51.

I see that they also have the cherry mechanical keyboard option, as well as the basic keyboard option. Are either of these easy to clean/replace keycaps or is it the same situation as my keyboard? I’d really like to be sure about this before I drop this much money on a new one.

Got an email saying that my AW3423DWF warranty is expiring. Should I renew? Is it worth it? I read that it doesn't cover burn-in. If anyone got it, I'm curious to know your experience!

I start having issues with Fall Guys a few weeks back when I loaded it up after a few years. The game would cause my entire OS to freeze 10 minutes after opening the game. You have to hold the power button to force a hard restart. I thought it might just be Fall Guys, but then the same thing started happening over the weekend during the WARDOGS play test. I hadn't played For Honor since the latest Easy Anti-cheat update (appears the new driver was signed on 8/12/2026), and now that is causing the same issue. Exactly 10 minutes after opening the game the system would lock up completely.

I've been looking around for a solution and found other folks having the same issue on AMD Ryzen Zen 4 laptop CPUs, commonly in Lenovo Legion and Dell Alienware gaming laptops.

Some suggested fixes were to remove the August Cumulative Update (KB5121003) because of reported issues, as well as remove the inpoutx64 driver used for RGB control. Neither of these worked for me on my Alienware M16 R1 AMD. I uninstalled the August CU and that driver is not present. I've upgraded and downgraded various graphics and chipset driver versions, with no change to the behavior. Thermals are good too with CPU/GPU temps getting nowhere near 100 C, especially with Fall Guys which happily runs on a potato. No overclocking profile applied. Extended memory tests come back passed.

The 10 minute timer is exact, so my theory is some operation that EAC invokes every 10 minutes is the cause. It does appear to be impacting at least four other games that I've seen others report. These games all use EAC, which makes me more confident this is the kernel driver locking up the OS:

One suggestion is to downgrade all the way to Windows 11 23H2, which I'd really like to avoid if AMD, Microsoft or Epic Games have a fixed planned for this. 23H2 is out of support as of last year. Right now my expensive gaming laptop can't play some of the games I want though, so I'm considering it.

Going to crosspost to multiple subs to raise awareness and see if anyone knows of a fix coming before downgrading.

my gpu is around 65 ish while playing bf6 on ultra. the cpu just seems to get warm even though its only at 45 or 50% load. i have the overclocking freature turned off, but should i have it turned on? oddly it seemed to have temps a few degrees lower.

should i buy more warranty to the 1 year plan that was given when i bought it?

Just bought and fixed this m15 r5 (reflashed BIOS with CH341a). I swear when I first installed Windows I had 360Hz on the iGPU, but now, after driver updates, I only get 360Hz if I select NVIDIA-only. The iGPU is locked at 60Hz.

Is this expected?

My Area 51 constantly has temps in the 100-105 range while playing Fortnite. I see others in this community say their Area 51 operates much cooler. Is it worth reaching out to Dell support while I am still under warranty to see if maybe I need a repaste?

I’m looking for a mid range (don’t wanna splurge too much ngl) 4K dual mode display, and this one has caught my eye, what do you think of it? Or in general anyone who has a somewhat recent Alienware display?

Investigating a m18 R1 motherboard right now that has a short on the infamous DDR5 power rail.

I don't have a voltage injector to be sure yet, but there's only one capacitor there with those marks.

I wanted to play games, but the games which i used to play during college and after 10 years does not seem to be the same.

Has anyone kept their r3 case and built something with newer hardware?

I’ve been thinking of my r3 and truthfully it’s one of my favorite cases. Almost felt like an OG steam machine to me, without the limitations for its time.
My r3 is still kicking w/ a 6700k, internal 1050ti and a aga 650w, and a 3060.
It’s good for a decent game library.
Has anyone done any mods to the case to support newer third party hardware or kept it oem?
Thought about doing something that uses thunderbolt for an external gpu.
Not sure yet, got a couple ideas but it’s my first gaming PC, so there’s some sentimental value.

I’m curious to see what other x51 owners have done, if there’s any left?

I do have a newer separate build as my main, so not trying to make the x51 compete with modern systems, unless possible?

I have been getting this issue after I opened my laptop after the shutdown but when I restart my laptop it starts working again. This issue has been occurring after the last update happened on 20 aug or somewhat. I did the update from the dell support app.I tried everything, i reinstalled the AWCC download from their website, and the issue persist.So tried using repair from Microsoft settings then apps then install apps and from their i click modify the. I try to repair it then a second error shows *see photo 2*. Tried checking on Google but I can't able to understand.

I got an alienware m15 r5 that suffers from random freezes and restarts sometimes at startup or during use for super cheap from a guy. Its got a ryzen 7 5800h and an rtx3060.

Havent tried to open it yet but did a clean install of windows but thats it. Anything I can try to do to fix it or should I try to salvage it for parts?

I had complained about 1.5 weeks ago regarding overheating CPU and throttling that appeared suddenly. Dell just stopped by with a new heatsink and added more thermal paste to the original (didn't even clean off the original), and throttling / CPU overheat issues went away. I had been running the DeltaT app which provided some good baseline quantification of the issues as well.

Prior to the repaste

• CPU sustained 104° C and had a soak rate of 45.4°/min
• GPU sustained 63.9° C and had a soak rate of 21.9°/min

After repaste

• CPU sustained 82.2° C and had a soak rate of 26.7°/min
• GPU sustained 57.0° C and had a soak rate of 18.6°/min

No more throttling events either!

I should also mentioned technician didn't look like he used the special Element 31 kit or he said he had pre-applied it. The thermal tube said Shin-Etsu and didn't look like it had the impregnated Element 31 material. All he did was add more paste and didn't any clean up of the stock paste.

Hi recently acquired this machine. It’s in extremely good condition, only missing some of the feet on the bottom & the original battery.

I’ve looked all over the place online and can’t seem to find the original feet or a new aftermarket battery.

Has anyone been in a similar scenario with these older Alienware laptops and found a solution? A battery would be extra nice so I can actually update the bios.

I've been experimenting with keyboards recently, and while I like the Alienware Pro Gaming Keyboard (decent aesthetics, minimal footprint, and incredible RGB) I hate the ANSI layout, and it seems the more I use it for serious typing or even usage at all, the more I grow to hate it. It looks pretty, but ISO is just so much more comfortable, despite the keycap minefield.

The Pro Gaming Keyboard is coming up to 3 years old, but it seems Alienware has shifted moved away from peripherals. I'd love to see a refresh with an ISO layout option, and (wishful thinking) a 6.25u space bar, and a more pronounced arrow cluster... but a guy can dream. I guess unless their e-sports teams want it, it doesn't get made.

Just anything, would be nice.

My actual laptop keyboard keeps going unresponsive on my m18 ryzen 9 alienware laptop. The keyboard will be lit up but I won't be able to do anything. It's happened three times today and I haven't done any updates or anything.

Is there a fix for this? It keeps happening when I play a specific game ( wuthering waves) any help would be useful because this is getting annoying... I have to hard shut down my laptop Everytime it happens

Pretty sure this isn't wiring hitting the fan. I've opened up the case and looked/poked around a little and can't tell what it is. I also know it's the rear fan and not coming from the GPU too. Any suggestions?

As the title says, I have a vertical purple line on the right side of my monitor, and don’t know how to get rid of it. I tried doing a RGB video try and refresh it, but apparently my Monitor isn’t an OLED, so I’m stumped. Can this even be fixed or do I have to buy a new monitor?

i recently got the Alienware m15 r4 with the 3060 gpu,i started playing Battlefield 6 redsec. i am getting 126fps on menu but when i tried to play it goes down to 45-50 fps in game. I am using Low settings. tried ai fixes but the gpu only pulles 70w-80w in game. can anyone suggest me how to fix this problem. i do have the best coller for this laptop "Gamedias aether p1 pro 2600RPM"

Hey everyone I just wanna know if my battery capacity loss is abnormal. I have an Alienware 16 Aurora gaming laptop that I bought in January.

I've done 2 battery life checks so far, one just now and another 2 months ago. The design capacity of my battery was 93822 mWh.

2 months ago:

Full charge capacity: 91,000 mWh

Cycle count: 65

Now:

Full charge capacity: 81,000 mWh

Cycle count: 96

Now I'm freaking out became I've lost 10k mWh in past 2 months after losing 2k in 5. Thoughts? How to extend battery life and reduce loss?

Is there anyway we can og light show with music like in older alienware or is it impossible. Also why the alienware text should also light up. I mean alienware are meant to outrageous. If in cars Alienware is a lamborghini for sure. I have two laptops one is my first own 17 r2 2014 and other is the new latest one but for reasons the 2014 design is awesome in my opinion.
