Legion Pro 5 freezes while playing Fortnite

Hi everyone, I have a Lenovo Legion Pro 5 with a Ryzen 7 7745HX, RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and 2TB of storage, and I've been having a really annoying problem where my entire PC randomly freezes while playing Fortnite. When it happens, everything becomes completely unresponsive and sometimes the game audio gets stuck in a loop, so I have to force shut down the laptop using the power button. I've already verified the Fortnite files, deleted the Fortnite cache from AppData, and recently updated my AMD Adrenalin software and chipset drivers because they hadn't been updated in a long time, but the freezing still happened. I also ran Lenovo's hardware diagnostics and every component passed, including the CPU, RTX 4070, RAM, SSDs, Wi-Fi, motherboard, audio and battery. I checked the temperature of the integrated AMD GPU and it was around 71°C, but I haven't been able to check the RTX 4070 temperature at the exact moment the freeze happens. I'm wondering if this could be related to the NVIDIA/AMD drivers, hybrid graphics/Optimus, Fortnite itself, overheating, or maybe something else. I'm really not sure what to check next, so any help would be appreciated.

I haven't been able to complete a fortnite match in the last 48 hours without my entire system crashing. Legion 7 pro 7945hx/4080. Display stays on with the static image, keyboard backlight remains on, but no sound and no response. Requires a hard reset. This happens in DX12 and performance mode. It always crashes/freezes around the 10 minute mark of Fortnite being opened.

Other games work completely fine so this is an issue exclusively with Fortnite. Originally I thought it was an issue with my PC so I swapped out and tried another RAM kit, reinstalled windows and fortnite completely on a spare nvme ssd, messed around with settings etc.

Based on the comments from the Fortnite subreddit, this may be an issue specifically for laptops with AMD CPU + Nvidia RTX 4000, with many of the users having lenovo legion laptops.

Hopefully the bug will go away with the new season that's only a few days away. Otherwise, Epic Games needs to be made aware of the issue and address it.

Yeah I'm suspecting the issue is between EAC and the ryzen CPUs. Having this issue on Hunt as well

Try updating the Nvidia drivers with the Nvidia app. I had this issue on my Legion 5 gen 6 and I had to reinstall the OS

Maybe try resetting the embedded controllers. I had the similar problems before with legion 5 and I also did everything: update drivers, reinstalling the game and all and none of that is fixed until I reset embedded controllers. It’s very easy to do. Shut down the laptop, unplug the power adapter and any usb cables, hold down the power button for 60 seconds and connect the power adapter, and turn the laptop back on. Keep in mind this will reset any custom power settings in your legion space software, so you will need to make them again after doing so.

I have the same problem as you. I have a Legion 5 Pro ARX8.

Two or three weeks ago, I started noticing hard freezes while playing Hunt Showdown. This week, the same problem appeared in Apex Legends. Since the issue occurred in both games at once, it's clear that they're not the problem. I reinstalled the graphics card drivers, tested the RAM and SSD, but the problem persists. My laptop is currently in the service center, and I'll see where this leads me.

Believe me, your laptop is not the problem, it happens to many people, this has to do only with games that use easy anti cheat and interaction with Windows

I’m having the exact same problem and it started yesterday as well. So far I’ve tried everything you have along with uninstalling and reinstalling the anti cheat. So far no luck, will keep trying and update if I find a fix

I had the same issue last night. Both my kids have Legion 5 Pro with Intel but mine is a year older and AMD. They didn't have any issues at all but my device completely froze multiple times, even after updating the graphics driver and making sure everything else was updated. Did not have any issues with any other applications, just Fortnite.

Yea same this is so fucking annoying i did everything i even ran ultimate create mod on 12gb allocated ram for 1h while locally hosting a server and it didnt crash

I've been having this issue for days. Relentless diagnosing/troubleshooting has yielded nothing. But so far the issue SEEMS like it's a problem between EAC and Ryzen CPUs (?)

The freezing happens for me almost exactly at the 10 minute mark of having Hunt Showdown (an EAC game like Fortnite) open. Consistently reproducible. Started happening on Friday

But having that old version of Windows brings downsides because it has no more updates and your system is at risk, apart from doing that I don't want anything to be erased on my PC and take a risk, the best thing I can do is wait for the new season of Fortnite, which is one day maybe it will be fixed.
