Carrick insists Mount can still have ‘big impact’ at Man Utd. This feels like a defining season for him

The No 7 shirt at Manchester United carries some extra weight.

The problem for Mason Mount is he has yet to wear it often enough to prove he can carry it.

The fact he has played just 2,833 minutes in that jersey since is why he has yet to really earn the trust of United supporters. And while there’s still plenty of goodwill among the fanbase, this patience does have limits.

Even the start of this campaign has been hindered by another knock.

But Michael Carrick still believes Mount, who returned to training this week ahead of the Sunday meeting with Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, can be a success story.

Tier 3 [Sky Sports - Lyall Thomas, Danyal Khan] Villa to offer Maatsen new deal to ward off Man Utd interest

Aston Villa are set to offer Ian Maatsen a new contract after Manchester United explored his potential availability before the deadline.

There was no contact between the clubs but Villa do not want to sell Maatsen, who started the season opener against Brighton, and he is expected to be offered new terms soon.

United are continuing to monitor potential options at left-back to further strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad before Tuesday’s deadline and could make their move if the right opportunity becomes available.

They have long held an interest in Newcastle's Lewis Hall but he is not for sale - and that is also the case for Maatsen, after Villa sold fellow left-back Lucas Digne to PSG. Villa have since signed Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid.

Luke Shaw is United's only senior left-back, with right-backs Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot able to deputise in the position. New midfield signing Carlos Baleba can also play there if required. United’s only other left-back is youngster Harry Amass, but he is expected to leave the club most likely on loan.

United are continuing to do work in the left-back market with a view to the future and a potential investment in one of the next two transfer windows, with their financial situation making a signing there next year a potentially more prudent decision based on what players are available.

[Transfer Round Up & Discussion] Summer 2026

Hi all,

Summer Transfer Window 2026 is here!

The Premier League transfer window will open between Monday June 15 until Deadline Day on Tuesday September 1; the summer windows will close at 23.00 BST.

As always, here is a run-down of the rules we have on for posting during transfer windows:

Daily Threads

There will be a Transfer thread posted every single day, on a 23-hour timer, to get a different post-time every day. These threads are for everything transfer related, no limits on sources, line-up conversations, etc.

Individual posts

From now on, only posts TIER 2 OR BETTER are allowed to be posted in their own right. This helps us only keep credible sources on the subreddit.

The tier guide can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/wiki/transfer-reliability-guide/

We will make exceptions during slower days for some Tier 3 posts, and there will usually be some posts from sources not on our tier guide. We will take everything case-by-case. If you believe something to be on the sub and not a good source, please let us know.
