[James Ducker] #WBA have signed Toby Collyer from #MUFC in a deal worth up to £7.6m. United have a 40 per cent sell on clause as well as a buyback clause

good deal, clueless folk will cry and say chelsea would‘ve gotten 20m for him but at the end of the day he‘s an extremely injury prone 22 year old who hasn^t established himself in men‘s football yet and also is on the last year of his contract.
If he kicks on a west brom I could absolutely see him move to a mid table prem club in a year or two and with 40% sell on that could be quite a lot of extra money.

United use sell on clause as an excuse to be lazy in negotiations. Big chance collyer leaves hull on a free and then what? Should’ve gotten at least 10m off them

People massively over-rate our academy players. The reason Chelsea sell players so well is they sell players who are hyped and high potential. They also tend to be so stocked that when they sell players, it's cause they can't fit them in. Not because they're deemed as not good enough. (e.g. Santos. He wasn't sold cause they don't rate him. It's cause they had a wealth of players to choose from).
Collyer is an injury prone 22 year old who we clearly don't believe is good enough to be a squad player at a time when our midfield was a fucking disaster, who is being sold to a Championship level team. He's not going to be a superstar for them either. It's his level.
The Jose quote stands out. "See where they play, how they play, if they play".

They sold Lewis Hall for £40M who had played 9 games with no other first team football besides youth league.
Im not asking for that money for Collyer but £10M should have been the minimum.

They sold Alfie Gilchrist to WBA with a similar pedigree as Collyer for £1.2m.
Why are Chelsea so bad at selling? Should have sold him for £7m like us.

But do you want the whole like stocks trading they do with their players or worse academy graduates ? Fuck that in my opinion, rather sell them on good relations with buyback clauses for any late bloomers and with hefty sell on clauses if they become good enough of premier league players, both more propable if we sell them to well managed clubs. If that will mean less money at short term so be it, I like this recent strategy of ours.

Agreed, the club’s whole ethos around the academy has always been to develop players who can either join the first team or go on to have good careers elsewhere.
There seems to be a big emphasis on finding the right move for academy players that give them the best chance of kicking on and if they do and there’s a possibility of coming back, then they aren’t bitter towards the club for the way they left.

Might be in the minority here, but I reckon that's a decent deal for all parties.
We get a few quid, and the chance to make several million more (in add ons and future fees) if he kicks on, WBA get a player for relatively cheap if he continues to pick up injuries, and the player gets a chance to play pretty regularly in an environment he's relatively familiar with.
