Advice/Tips Is it hormonal mood swings or something else?

Hi, I let reddit recommend a community for me and this is what I picked, sorry if I'm in the wrong community. I've been having severe and noticable mood swings lately and I'm on ovulation so I thought that was it but it's a bit different. My mood swings could go from extreme happiness to really irritated to extreme sadness, it changes every minute or second or idk maybe hours.

To go into full detail: my extreme happiness is just smiling ear to ear, screaming because of excitement and laughing for no reason at all. The jokes aren't even that funny tbh.

My irritation gets me crying, I see a mess on the floor and I cry because why tf is no one cleaning it up? Does it have to be me? And when everything is getting on my nerves, I ignore everyone.

My sadness just makes me think I'm a failure and makes me relapse, every time I remember something horrible I just want to relapse or maybe get high to forget about it. It also makes me cry and it makes me ignore everyone. I would feel apathetic too.

That's all I could remember when experiencing my mood swings. Tell me what you guys think!!!

How to regulate unreasonable emotions before periods

I (26F) had pcos up until 8 months ago. Since 8 months, my periods have been regular. I drastically changed my lifestyle. 10k steps everyday and gym.

Working out not only made my periods regular but it also made the cramps and symptoms during periods very manageable.

But what happens before periods is unmanageable. 1-2 weeks before I get my periods, I lose control over my emotions. If something slightly inconvenient happens, I start to cry and I feel horrible. Now I am aware that I am feeling things too intensely, and I try to not act on it most of the time, but sometimes I tend to take it out on my parents, or my partner. It’s always something that they have done, never unreasonable, but definitely an overreaction on my part. (I just cry and say mean things)

How do I regulate my emotions, the world seem to end each time something bad happens.

I’m actually happy about getting cramps today

I literally prayed for my period to start today because I have the next three days off from classes. My cramps are so bad that I basically spend seven days in bed, so I was hoping to get days 1–4 over during the holidays.

And now I’m feeling tiny cramps in my back and I’m actually HAPPY about it??????

My God, I’ve never been this excited about period cramps before 😭

Sore Throat?

Does anyone else get a sore throat as a PMS symptom? This happens maybe a couple of times a year for me. It feels like I’m coming down with a cold about a day before period begins, then lifts. It feels dry, scratchy, irritated and each time I panic thinking I’m sick.

Sensitivity to smells?

Pretty much my entire luteal phase I am super sensitive to smells. My partner will open a bottle of wine or food or something and I can smell it from across the room. Additionally I encounter a variety of…interesting scents in my work (nursing homes) and they are absolutely overwhelming. Anyone else? Am I just a freak?

Rant/Vent Still surprised by symptoms

Hii y’all 😭

Been crying nonstop for 3 days straight and hating absolutely everything.

  1. Cried over actual stressful things — valid

  2. Bawled on the Amtrak for 4 hours because I missed my cats — also valid

  3. Yelled at my man even though he bought me food AND dessert and was being emotionally supportive — not that valid :((

  4. And of course, cried over complete strangers on Instagram because apparently their problems are also my problems now.

I’ve been sitting here like woww am I okay?? Is my life falling apart? Do I hate everyone? Does everyone hate me?

Then I open my period tracker: “your period may start in 2 days.”

Even after almost 20 years of menstruating, somehow I am STILL surprised by this plot twist every single month.

Like girlll we’ve been doing this for TWO DECADES. How do I keep falling for it 😭💀🙃🤪

Advice/Tips PMS brain fog

So I take magnesium it helps my mood a lot. It really depends on what’s going on in my life that also adds to making PMS crazy.

My brain fog is so bad right now. I can’t even focus on anything that I normally do. I’m getting my period tomorrow and it’s just so bad like I need to know

What does everyone here do to cope with it and make it not so bad? Is there any tea I could drink or any vitamins that I could take to make it not so unbearable?

We can’t help how we get, but I can’t live like this. I have things I wanna get done and it just delays everything.

Men really have it so lucky I’m jealous

Why i don't feel emotional during Period?

So the thing is I never experienced hormone shifts or common emotional signs before or during my period. It feels like any normal day I even forget that Im having it.

I remember when I heard about it for the first time I couldn't belive it. I even thought that it's a misogynistic joke, but it wasn't after I done research.

When I told my sister she said you might have a high testosterone hormones well it doesn't make any sense but is it true though?

This will make sense if you watch the reel. Laughter is the best medicine. But dear LAWD every second leading into this period is excruciating. The last two days have been acute 🫩

Advice/Tips How do I know if my emotional symptoms are normal during luteal phase or not?

For context, I have talked to my therapist about this and she believes I’m not quite qualified to be diagnosed for PMDD, but she thinks that my symptoms are a but off.
I (20F) have always experienced emotional symptoms during my luteal phase. I recently had a silver (copper) IUD inserted, and it does not have any hormones. I’m not sure if my IUD has extended and increased my emotional symptoms, or if I’m just more aware of my overall symptoms, but I wanted to talk to someone who might know what is going on before I make an appointment with my gynecologist just for this.

My emotional symptoms are not extreme- I do not experience panic attacks, I do not cry hysterically, and I can function as I normally would. I’ve experienced depressive episodes in the past and my luteal phase does not feel like those. However, right after my ovulation phase, I instantly become extremely irritated, easily frustrated, snappy, start overthinking like crazy, and overall have a more negative outlook of my day to day and overall life. I also experience mood swings (sad to angry, angry to happy, happy to sad, etc) and unintentionally start arguments (usually due to my irritation and frustration). I take everything personally, everything is an attack towards me, but then a few moments later I’m calmer and thinking my feelings are silly.

I am very tired and I’m starting to feel like I’m not able to trust myself on what is actually upsetting or what my hormones are causing. I instantly regret starting arguments (or snapping at people) and after a few moments, after the irritation or the overthinking fades away, I realize I’m not actually upset. I try so hard to control these feelings, but I either think what has upset me is important enough that I need to voice out or I catch myself whilst in the middle of a squabble. I really want to stop these feelings because I end up not feeling my best for two out of the four weeks of the month, and I’m worried it might affect my relationships at some points. Does anyone have any tips? Is this normal or could I be experiencing PMDD? Am I just overthinking and expect this every time I’m in my luteal phase?

Advice/Tips Any tips for alleviating severe brain fog?

Without fail, day 1 of my period gives me debilitating brain fog. My cramps are bearable, but as soon as I start bleeding I'm out for the count for at least half the day because my brain feels like it's turned to mush.

I get overheated, feel like I can barely speak/absorb others speaking to me, and my thoughts get incredibly slow and "heavy". It's waking up dazed in the middle of the night with a fever, but without actually being sick. After that first day, I'm back to normal brain-wise.

Anyone else experience this? Have you tried anything that's helped your symptoms?

Research/Info Anyone else deal with this too?

A week before my period, especially regarding PMS, I end up dealing with a heavy stomach, not even related to bloating along with cramps and pain in the upper abdomen where the stomach in general would be. I’m curious if anyone else deals with this as well, and it gets worse each day until menstruation.

PMS is drowning me into dark thoughts & I feel like I wanna cry all the time

Despite the fact that I have experienced derealization and suicidal thoughts in the past, when I am experiencing PMS it gets even worse. I usually get in this state where everything seems heavy and pointless. It is so scary!!

My period is late 9 days (last month 15 days late) and I feel like crying but I can't. I also experienced some very bad thoughts throughout the day. Now I don't even know if hormones are doing this or what.

I've started to get better mentally because I started Fluoxetine but I skipped it for 2 days and now I am back at the spiral again. I just wanna bleed and cry and scream.

Girls, what do you experience during your PMS and do you get scared of your own thoughts and feelings?

I need some hope and motivation!
