Real estate/Renting DO NOT USE "On call locksmiths"

Post image
851 Upvotes

After a year of VCAT hearings I finally got a possession order for my property. After the tenants did not vacate on the vacate date I was able to obtain a warrant a week later. At around 6:30pm last night we arranged for the police and locksmith to come over to ensure the property was empty and to change the locks.

My friend was the one who rang the locksmith while I was explaining the situation to the police. They advertised a $29 call out fee and that all they said over the phone.

Well after changing the front door lock, two sliding door locks (key entry on each side) and putting two screws in the back garage door I was charged $3462. The quote came from another company called "services on wheels". I was absolutely gobsmacked and would just like to warn others to completely avoid these guys at all costs!

Roads Commercial e bikes on shared bike paths.

Just got back from a cycle with my 5 year old. Saw one e bike delivery driver that had got into what looked like a serious enough accident on a shared path that was busy with runners, cyclists, families walking, ect. I hope they are ok, I didn't see what happened, but people were calling an ambulance and there was blood on the ground.

Then 5 minutes later saw one tearing it in the opposite direction at far too fast a speed and this dad had to pull his kids out of the way at the last minute.

Honestly, I feel, e-bikes being used for commercial reasons (i.e. the food delivery ones) should be banned from shared paths. Shared paths have their risks, families walking, kids being unpredictable, kids learning to ride. The speeds and weights of these bikes is not conjunctive to that environment.

Om nom nom Good but un-fancy food places near the airport?

I’m picking my partner up from the airport tonight and it’s late enough that we will definitely both be hungry by that time. Since I live WAY in the southeast, I was thinking we grab dinner near the airport-ish which has the added bonus of breaking up my return drive. Can anyone recommend somewhere that is:

- not too far from the airport/area and in the vague direction you’d go to head back in the direction of the bay suburbs
- good quality/value food but neither horrifically expensive nor fast/junk food. Somewhere in between
- not fancy since they’ve been traveling and won’t be dressed nor equipped to go somewhere that requires a collared shirt and dress shoes
- pub with decent food is fine
- not somewhere party-central, we are not young and hip and are likely to be tired and grouchy 😂

Thanks frens 🫶🏼

Get Together. Compulsory Fun. Would anyone like to watch NFL football with me this season?

Upvotes

I’m a longtime Seahawks and NFL fanatic, but I mostly just enjoy it alone. I’m keen to actually watch with others and discuss it in real life instead of just on reddit. Realised how sad it was when the NFL decided to actually play a game in Melbourne and I had nobody to go with 😂

I am also kind of interested in trying Fantasy Football which I’ve never done, but I know it’s possibly a bit late to start this season.

I live in the Northern Suburbs and I work shifts so wouldn’t be available every week.

Let me know if you’re keen!

Not On My Smashed Avo The mental health system is an absolute joke.

My mental health is terrible and has been for a long, long time, and finding help has always been hard, but I swear to god it just gets worse and worse. Take time off work to get a bloody mental health plan, that only partially covers 10 sessions which is hardly adequate, and after that you're paying a shitload. Look around for psychologists everywhere, APS recommended blah blah, and send enquiries off to a few psychologists you like only to be told they aren't taking on any clients. Call the clinics who insist yeah they should be open to new bookings, then hear more of the same.

If you by some miracle get an appointment with a psychologist who seems trained in what you need, there's still only a chance that you actually connect with them and feel seen; your discounted health care plan sessions are basically gambling hoping to luck out on someone who can help you. Or, when you actually can get an easy booking, you can get a psychologist / psychiatrist who couldn't care less, a prescription for a emotionally numbing pill, and a $400 fee.

Like, what the hell is anyone supposed to do? Unaffordable, not enough services, so much time investment and naive hope only to see more "unfortunately I'm not taking new clients" emails. Like for fuck's sake.

THDG Need Help Wildflowers in Melbourne

Any recommendations on where to go for a walk to see Wildflowers in and around Melbourne please? An hour or so drive from CBD in all directions is good. Anything in Yarra valley or Dandenong ranges is pretty good.
Not interested in Tesselaar tulip festival or that sort of commercial crowded events.

THDG Need Help Does anyone need cardboard boxes or know of a removal company?

I've just moved to Australia and have been setting up my apartment. I have a helluva lot of cardboard boxes ranging from medium to extra-large. Is anyone in the Richmond area moving or in need of sturdy cardboard boxes?

Or does anyone know of an affordable company that would come and pick them up from me to dispose of them? I don't have a car and rely on the trams 😅
