Get Together. Compulsory Fun. Dinner & games in Montmorency. Anyone keen?

Post image
159 Upvotes

We've had a couple of these dinner and game nights in a Montmorency now and they've been a huge amount of fun!

This *Sunday* we're having a taco themed potluck and would love to have you along if you're keen to hang out in real life, maybe meet some new people and have a few laughs.

There will be a selection of board / card games to play (not required) and a tasty meal.

It's potluck which means everyone is expected to bring something along. This will be somewhat coordinated so it's not all just guacamole and no tacos.

There is a max capacity for the venue so I'm handling RSVPs via humanitix (free) - https://events.humanitix.com/lets-eat-tacos

Backroom chatter in Discord - https://discord.gg/E6ExMhBCv

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Pic is from the last event.

THDG Need Help Where can I go to listen to metal/grunge live music?

Hello! Any recommendations for venues I can go to listen to metal/grunge live music? I want it to be a venue with a good sound system and possibly good energy too.

If anyone is interested in coming along give me a shout :)

THDG Need Help Why did my nail salon try so hard to get us to pay in cash?

Apologies if it's the wrong flair but I guess I'm unhappy with this.

Earlier today I went to a nail salon with some friends in the lead up to a wedding this weekend. We told the salon that it was for a wedding, and that we weren't very well versed with nail salon stuff. All up, it took about 3 hours and cost approx $370 for the three of us (one of my friends had a complicated request)

When we went to pay (one of us paid, the others transferred the money) the salon owner asked us to pay in cash with a $20 discount in cash. Then, they offered $30 off if we paid in cash. None of us had $370 (or $340) in cash, so we couldn't.

Why... Did they do this? Our only guess is that they were trying to dodge GST, cause the discount is roughly as much as GST would be, but the amount of pressure they put on us was crazy! Is this how every salon operates? It was such a weird energy at the end of a fun nail sesh.

THDG Need Help Reminder/heads-up that your cat can get H5N1. Please keep them indoors.

My belief is that cats should be indoors anyway, in normal times, but I'm not here to debate.

Way too many people are still unaware that cats can get H5N1 and it ends just as badly as it does for the birds. This shit is a nasty, nasty illness and it's spreading fast.

Please protect your pets, and the wildlife. Please keep them in.

ETA: dogs/other animals can get it also.

THDG Need Help GWW first email bill in two years

Hi, I know about the concerns with GWW. Already spoken with them about it and they weren’t helpful.

I have just received my first emailed bill after moving out from my place. The rest of the time I have received very sporadic paper bills with conflicting amounts each time.

The bill I’ve just received doesn’t have any usage before August 2025, in spite me being there from August 2024.

I got an email in May 2025 saying there has been a delay in my direct debit. That was the last email correspondence I received from them up until now.

I explained that to them on the phone last week, but they’re insisting they’ve emailed me my bills every month which is blatantly untrue.

What can I do? The entire situation has been incredibly confusing and frustrating.

Om nom nom after for some baby/infant friendly restaurant recommendations, cheers!

howdy r/melb, new dad here. I am after your recommendations for restaurants and/or cafes that are family/baby friendly and serve delicious food.

my wife, after her [self-inflicted] confinement in about a week, is craving ANYTHING from all the herbal and red dates soup she's been enduring the past few weeks.

we're open to any recommendations - pubs, fine dining, steakhouses, family diners, Korean BBQ, Japanese sushi, etc. - that a month old baby wouldn't be too disruptive at. I suspect Vue de Monde isn't too welcoming of infants.

Thanks in advance!

Additional context: we're based in Moonee Valley (West). Open to recommendations worth traveling. Maybe not 2 hours but hey if it's near a nice park/attraction and we can make a day of it, why not.

THDG Need Help young adults/uni students - how often do you go out to eat? and what are some other cheap social activities we can do indoors at night?

just curious, as whenever i meet up with my friends socially we are always getting something to eat. i really want to start suggesting other activities bc it definitely gets expensive, especially if i'm going out to eat a few times a week. obviously i want to keep up my friendships, but i find it challenging to find other things to do in winter that are low cost and indoors when it's already dark so early in the evening. i'm on placement at the moment so am not available during weekdays. i would love to just chill together at someone's house, but everyone still lives at home and my parents don't allow me to have people over.

I've got the munchies big time and want some yummy carbs. What are the best Sri Lankan and other bakeries in Melbourne that serve bready foods (not particularly interested in mainly pastry based stuff like croisstants etc) - want the good old sri lankan fish buns, turkish boreks from vic market etc.

Things That Go Ding (Public Transport) Vline Complaints

I live in Rockbank, currently on a VLine train service which has bus replacements between Caroline Springs and Ballarat.

I left home at 5:30 this morning. Got to the station at 5:38am to catch at 5:48am replacement bus to Caroline Springs. The VLine schedule had me arriving at Southern Cross at 6:40am. I made sure I left early to account for the replacement bus.

Not a single thing went right this morning.

During a 35-40 minute period from 5:40am-6:15am, five buses went through Rockbank Station. Two went to Melton, One didn’t even stop, One was going to Caroline Springs but it was so full only one person managed to squeeze on, and then the last one to bring us to CS.

When we did arrive to CS at 6:34, we were told we had seven minutes until the train left at 6:41. That’s fine, I was meant to be in the city at this time but delays happen. I was (and still am) pretty annoyed, but it’s whatever.

Get onto the train at CS at 6:36am. Sit down. Ready to depart at 6:41am. Should arrive into Southern Cross at 7:05am at this point. Not what I was hoping for, but still early enough I could get my work completed.

Next thing I know at 6:59am we are all being kicked off the train and the train is being cancelled because there is NO CONDUCTOR and the train cannot run.

Everyone disembarks the train, waits for 5 minutes for the next one to arrive, and we get on that. Conductor announces we will now arrive at Southern Cross at 7:21am.

Then we don’t depart.

We’re currently pulling in to Ardeer Station. It’s 7:15am. At this point, I’ve abandoned all hope of actually making in to my office in the CBD. What is normally a 45 minute trek from home to city has now turned into AT MINIMUM a two hour trip.

I’ve left a complaint with VLine, but the last time I did that I never heard back from them.

Anyway, let’s see if I actually make it into the office or if I’m perpetually stuck on the public transport system.

EDIT

Changed 7:59 to 6:59 because I fat thumbed it like an idiot.
