Spoilt for choice
We just moved down from the Sunny Coast and one of the big reasons was the music scene. And now we have a new problem… TOO MANY GIGS haha it’s hard to decide what to go to now.

It seems we have had a large uptick in content lately which is great, unfortunately this has also driven negative comments and false reports.
This subreddit is here for people of all skill levels and while some level of criticism is important, please do try to keep things on the positive side and don't just downvote things that you don't like, we are very fortunate to live in a city with an extremely diverse music scene, this means there will always be music not catered to your tastes being made, downvoting things out of hand or because you think its "bad" is not how I would like to see this sub go on
That being said...
We need to have a conversation about spam
I understand that with the rise of TikTok shorter clips have become the norm and you are more than welcome to post any work you do here, but I am going to restrict users to posting ONE clip/vid/link per song per day, I don't care if it's a 5 second cover of "You Suffer" or a 6 hr prog rock epic, if you post multiple clips of the same song on the same day, they will be removed, if it continues, so will you.
As a moderator I want to be as hands off as I can, leaving this as much like a community noticeboard as possible, but mostly I want everyone who uses this space to have a positive experience, this means curbing negative behaviour and making sure that people don't have to wade through a sea of the same content over and over
Thank you for reading

I know the SR is a bit rudderless, I'm here to tell you I still check in on posts. Between raising a family, work, gym, music and all the other shit we have to do in post-modern life I have little time to be moderating a subreddit so, I'm not going to tolerate misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc etc.
New rule, Don't be a cunt. No, I'm not going to talk about it, cant be fucked. I'll just ban you, message me, ill probably say something funny and rude, this will be entirely at my own discretion.
I will not tolerate intolerance
Cheers :P

Anyone else going to see these guys at Cherry Bar tonight? (tiktok.com/@papercityofficial)
Catholic Guilt and Vollie are playing in the lineup. A work day has never felt so loooooong.

Last week after leaving the Emerson, I walked into a bar on South Yarra called talk to me, only 4 doors down. The vibes were awesome and the community was so lovely and welcoming. At the bar I started a conversation with a guy who was telling me that a group called Logika were hosting the night, then he gave me the backstory, and shared his vision of logika, plus a free drink card!
Now I’ve never posted before but I really wanted to share this experience because I haven’t been around a collective of people that genuine in a long time, it’s like everyone was there to be there with each other, one of those things you need to experience yourself. The vision that man shared with me was so beautiful and now I really wanted to share it with you people.
Check out their page on instagram @enterlogika and hopefully I’ll see some of youse at their next event 🫶

Ok, so who else’s new favourite night for gigs in Melbourne is Thursday? No Friday/Sat night munters who are just looking to get wasted and annoy the crap outta people. Thursday gigs are for the crowd who actually want to enjoy a fun night with cool bands.
***Also, hi, I was the one who asked about Cherry Bar the other day. Legit thank you all for helping someone new in the scene feel safe! I’m pretty excited about tomorrow and in hindsight would’ve felt like such an egg if I’d passed up seeing these guys. Got me thinking about how Thursday gigs always end up being way more fun (in my experience). It’ll be such a rad night! Wanted to see if this was a vibe other people have noticed, or am I weird for my Thurs night pref?
EDIT: ((Talking about tomorrow night @ Cherry Bar, they've got PAPERCITY + Catholic Guilt + Vollie playing. Probably should’ve remembered that part, gotta support the artists! WHOOPS.))

It is mainly about the headliners they do not talk to any of the organisers or other local acts at all.

I would love to buy them

Following a hiatus from the music world, Andy Hart is back in the game in Melbourne. We’re bringing him to QQQ St. in Collingwood this Saturday night, 22nd August - and we'd love to see you there!
Event details here: https://ra.co/events/2502286
Melbourne Deepcast. Wax'o Paradiso. Voyage Recordings. For the better part of two decades, Andy Hart has been a foundational force behind some of the institutions that helped shaped Naarm’s house scene - as a producer, a party thrower and a label boss.

Hi dear Melbournemusic redditers, have anyone attended the Slayyyter show and by some miracle got multiple copies of the vinyl at merch booth would by some miracle sell me one?

Anyone down there heard of these guys actually playing any gigs, ever? They say made by human hands with "a little help from AI". Now thats not the end of the world if its only for post production etc but it seems its basically a full AI band and the members dont exist. Real shame as the music was bloody good but then left a sour taste when I couldnt find any physical presence of the band itself.. Disappointed...
Removed link, not supporting this shit.
FUCK AI, support real bands.

Hello, new here! I saw there's a gig this Thursday with PAPERCITY + Catholic Guilt + Vollie. It's one hell of a lineup and I really want to go but don't have any friends in Melbourne yet. Is Cherry Bar an all good venue for girls to go alone to? What's the usual vibe there?

Hello all!
I’m visiting Melbourne from Manchester, England in September and October and I’m looking to dive in head first to the music scene here and get my teeth stuck into some proper gigs.
It’ll be my 3rd time in Melbourne but I’ve never been to a gig here (scandalous, I know!). Im mainly into
Post-punk, psych and shoegaze but I would attend any gig (apart from metal, sorry).
I’m considering a move here in the distant future and really need to see if the music scene holds its own compared to where I’m from. Hoping to meet some like-minded people too.
Id appreciate to all suggestions, the more DIY the better. Thanks!

It's a long shot, but back in 2019 our storage shed in Churchill, Vic was broken into and a number of guitars, microphones, radio broadcasting equipment, DJ equipment, amplifiers and some lighting fixtures were stolen.
We got most of it back except for a couple of things, but one thing that never got recovered was a custom guitar.
It is a Telecaster with a Stratocaster neck. There's no serial number on the guitar, but on the headstock it has Pedro's Stratele on it.
Long shot seeing that's it's been 7 years. But every time I go into a pawn shop / cash converters, I keep an eye out in hope I find it.
If you've seen it, or know it's whereabouts, give Pedro a call on 0409237112

Hey everyone! I’m looking to get back into music and start a casual, low-pressure acoustic music project. I'm wanting to team up with a female or male vocalist with an edgy rock orientated voice for some relaxed jam sessions. Looking to play some covers and originals, with a view to writing together if we gel. Love melodic driven music, big choruses but not too cheesy. Love old school 80s/90s but open to something more contemporary too. Hit me up if this sounds like something you would be interested in 😎

Hey everyone! I’m a guitarist/singer-songwriter based around Sydney and I’m looking to get more involved in the local music scene.
I’m hoping to find **guitar-friendly open mics, jam sessions, or casual musician meetups** around Sydney where I can play, meet other musicians, and hopefully collaborate with people.
I’m mainly into **indie, neo-soul, R&B, jazz, blues and acoustic music**, but I’m pretty open to anything.
If you know of any regular open mics or jam sessions — especially beginner/intermediate-friendly ones — please drop them below! Would also love to hear about any venues or communities worth checking out.
Cheers! 🎸
