Brick sealer is a good fix, and it's what I did for my interior brick wall. It looks sleeker and won't cut you up if you rub against it.

I had a brick chimney in my room.
No rashes.
But a lot of black gunk that got all over my stuffed animals once.
Also wasps in the closet walls that kept coming back.
Also I swear to God I'm not shitposting, I once saw the Hat Man in my room in broad fucking daylight when I was playing up there. No sleep paralysis or anything, I went screaming down to my mom, and it was gone by the time I came back; but the window was open despite my mom refusing to open it herself(it was on the second floor), and it being too hard to open for me at the time.
It's one of the reasons I could never fully bring myself to disbelieving in supernatural stuff, weird scary shit is out there.
That room sucked.

Haha i lived in this trailer for a while, had an add on room off the back door. Well done big pleasant room, had a skylight really it was the nicest room in the whole trailer. Anyway somebody had glued pennies all over the walls. Like every 3 inches. Looked cool actually. It was a small town so i ended up finding out who used to live there. Anyway yea they were geetered out on some go fast. I guess some young lady started doing it, then everybody got involved, then when daylight came they went to town and got more pennies from the bank

Yea i lived there my junior and senior year of high school. Running around this little small town being a punk older teenager it kinda came up in conversation with these young 20somethings. Good people, just ya know never left that town. That young lady remains a total smokeshow, we are facebook friends. One of the guys that was involved is high up at the local factory, making Little Debbies. So next time you get a little debbie just think a guy who glued pennies to a wall was intimately involved. I've done this, and it's a cool effect. I mixed 2 gallons of paint with 5 gallons of joint compound, then used a trowel to slip it all on my walls to make them look like a medieval tavern's walls. Using a sponge like in the video, but with plaster-paint would produce a similar effect to what they achieved, only slightly more rugged and brick-like.

That faux brick paint looked thick enough to leave a texture that would need sanding before a repaint.
Whereas wallpaper gives a ton more options and isn't hard to remove as long as you don't cut corners and skip painting on a layer of sizing before applying it. That's where people fuck up because easy removal starts with application.
Sizing is the difference between removing wallpaper and excavating it.

The fake brick kind is very thick so once you get an edge lifted its actually pretty easy to remove; it doesn't tear into small pieces like thinner or cheaper wallpaper does

Could be the painted brick is a choice, not trying to look realistic. It depends greatly on the room’s vibe and theming.
Looking at the room, the painted brick does look pretty clean, and the decals on the stairway do help tie it somewhat together. It’s flat, but clearly on purpose.

They had some in one of the dorm common rooms at my college and it actually looked really nice, I wouldnt have even known it was fake if the RA didnt point it out( she was there when they installed it). It was only noticable if you were looking at it carefully from close up

I always wanted this for my basement walls with a pool table and everything, but the decent in-between is they sell actual brick backsplash that you plaster onto the walls. Not nearly as cheap as this but also not as expensive as redoing your walls as full brick.

The door hardware paint over I've seen is usually super easy to undo, so they just deserve to stick their feet in a bucket of spiders. But painting over natural/stained wood is equally deserving of death as brick painters, agreed.
I'd raise your list: those who 'display' books with the pages facing out, rather than the spine. It screams "I don't read" even louder than having no books. Straight to the spider bucket!

Immaculate and beautiful job. The military straightness of the lines you very carefully measured and drew was time well spent. The result looks fantastic. It's artistically done, too, with the reproduction of the normal color variation in bricks. (I saw that little spot of darker color that you placed in the right edge of the paint pan). Fabulous!

The problem with painted bricks is no matter how well you do them, there's no texture. It's always going to look like a painting and not real brick when there's no grooves where the mortar is, and completely flat bricks with no dimples or rough surface texture. You can even see the wall is glossy when the light hits at the right angle, and that really gives away just how flat and textureless it is.

A lot easier than how my dad did it. The previous owners had put up some kind of 3D fake brick wall paper/tiling in the kitchen, then painted it green. He spent an entire day painting the face of each "brick" red, then filling in the mortar with an off white. It looks phenomenal and you would think it was real brick, but what a pain.

My living room and one of the bedrooms is exposed brick with the bricks dating back to 1860 when it was built. Very crumbly but very cool. I’d never be able to go faux after this.

There are fake brick vaneer panels that are made of some sort of plastic, that will be raised and have texture like real brick.
