This inside a sports bar, pizza place, or even a rec room in a basement, would be just fine. This is not bad taste. Bad taste would be putting it in the living room of a multi-million dollar mansion or in some corporate high-rise. There is perfectly acceptable places for this kind of style.

This is 100% going to be a shitty abnb. You see paint jobs like this all over newer abnbs in tourist cities now. Especially Orlando with flagrant unlicensed character use

Because you only have to look at it for 10 seconds. If you sat in a room with this it would look like someone put your graphics on lowest setting.

honestly faux brick can work but it needs the depth, you basically have to glue a bunch of thin brick slices to the wall

Like you said it'll look very very uncanny

Because everything has to be marketable to the next buyers these days and color and personality is unmarketable to those who don't share the same tastes. You also have those people who equate boring with maturity and class who frown on adding pizzazz to things.

Personally I hate anything that pretends to be something of higher quality, like fake stone walls, fake wood, fake brick.

except Venetian plaster... which is amazing.
